Guardians of the Galaxy Kurt Russell is Ego the Living Planet

Kurt Russell should be an amalgam of Star Fox and Mar-vell.

Kurt Russel confirmed for Ego.

Kinda dissappointed as I wanted Starhawk, and weirded out that Peter's dad is a planet.

Ego being Starlord's father is unexpected, but it seems like something Gunn would do.

That is a really inspired choice by Gunn. It'll be interesting to see how they go about explaining that.

Wow! Ego? Starlord's mom had a child with a planet? HOW? WHY? AND WHEN?

Unless he's simply voicing Ego and playing Starlords father on a seperate character. :/

It's all one character. James Gunn said it'll all be explained in the film.

Well Ego in himself isn't actually a planet he's a being using a Planet as an Avatar. So it is possible at one point he had a human avatar. This was shown to me in Hulk and the Agents of SMASH of all places. So Gunn is probably going with something like that.

Ego as Star Lord's dad does not sit with me well at all. I understand how it can work but Ego being alone in the universe is kinda his thing.

My theory, Ego created a human-looking body which (through a sequence of events that I'm REALLY interesting to learn about), ended up having sex with Meredith Quill. And Peter was the result of that union.

Weird, yes. But it's a James Gunn movie, so weird kind of comes with the territory.

I'm willing to bet he got bored and happened upon earth and abducted her as cosmic companion.

I remember in the Silver Surfer animated series were he refused to let Surfer leave because he wanted company after so many eons of being alone.

Oh my gosh yes ego! I've been hoping to see him for years. Literally as soon as I heard marvel was going cosmic I hoped for ego. This is great!

I hope he tries to **** our planet. You have to admit it, we live on a very sexy planet

They showed it during the footage yesterday.

He went to earth because he wanted to experience what it was like being a human and so he created a body.

James Gunn's post on facebook after the panel

This is the biggie, I guess. And, yes, as many people guessed, or assumed, Kurt Russell is playing Peter Quill’s father. And Peter Quill’s father is (as almost no one has guessed)…

EGO.

Known in the comics as Ego the Living Planet.

Yeah, his dad is a planet. Sort of. It will all be explained in the film..

But to me, this is the absolute center of Vol. 2, and one of the reasons I’ve been so excited about it. When Marvel first approached me with the first movie, I thought, “Wait a second? A talking raccoon? Isn’t that a rather ridiculous idea to base a movie around?”It was then that I took a step back and asked myself: Okay, if a raccoon could talk, and shoot a machine gun, how could that be? And answering that question ended up being the entire foundation of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1. There was a sadness in the answer. Rocket was an animal experimented upon, torn apart and put back together, without compassion. He was the only being of his type, had never known any hint of kindness, and was utterly and completely alone until he met his fellow Guardians. And, one of them in particular – Groot – thought it was worth sacrificing his life for his sake. This melancholy and beautiful undercurrent helped to ground the character for me. He had far more in common with Frankenstein’s monster than he did Bugs Bunny. And I related to him, greatly, and I hoped other folks who felt like outsiders would as well.

Ego seemed, in many ways, like an even more ridiculous character. But I asked myself, if a planet was alive, how could that be? And how could it father a child?

The answers to those questions took me to a far deeper place that I expected. I don’t want to give away too many answers at this time. But what Nova Prime said about Peter’s father at the end of Vol. 1 is certainly true – he is something ancient and unknown. And, as we will discover, being a cosmic being, alone for eons, is perhaps even more lonely than being the universe’s sole talking raccoon.

Lol Gunn. Love how he isn't afraid to glom onto all the weirdest, wildest insanity from the cosmic universe.

From what I heard in the trailer dscriptions. I wouldnt be surpised. That would be HILARIOUS. However, we gotta remember, kids.

I don't know if I've ever wanted Kurt Russell's face superimposed on a planet, but I think I want that now.

As long as he has his glorious facial hair, that is essentially.

James Gunn's favorite Kurt Russell story

http://www.vulture.com/2016/07/james-gunn-best-kurt-russell-story.html

“I think my favorite Kurt [story] — and there’s a lot of them, because he tells a lot of stories, he’s a very talkative, Chatty Cathy — but there’s a story where I was grilling him about Escape from New York,” the wild-haired, boundlessly exuberant Gunn replied. “He was telling me about how, when he had the screenplay for Escape from New York, the studio heads were like, ‘Hey, we don’t wanna make this movie because this guy isn’t likeable! How is anyone ever gonna like this guy?’ And he says” — here, Gunn leaned back and started his Russell impression: roaring his words while throwing his fists around like a boasting gorilla — “‘Cause I’m gonna play him! And I’m an innately likeable guy! I don’t know why! Just everybody likes me!’ And that’s Kurt Russell.”
