Guardians of the Galaxy Kurt Russell is Ego the Living Planet

I Would not be Surprised that we will Never See Ego in his Planet Form in The Movie

From what I heard in the trailer dscriptions. I wouldnt be surpised. That would be HILARIOUS. However, we gotta remember, kids.

Ew. Can't they just go see something else?

Oh well, maybe a light smooch instead? Or even Netflix and chill maybe?

It's going to be very interesting to find out exactly how Ego the Living Planet, of all people, came to father Peter Quill. I'm guessing it will have something to do with Ego assuming human form to satisfy his curiosity about humans on Earth.

I'm hoping we see Ego in his planet form too. Also, when Ego is in his human form, I wonder if he might resemble Adam Warlock or Magus in some way.

I'm going to post the same thing I did in the star lord father thread -

I love the idea of all of this. I always assumed an on screen portrayal of Ego would be like Pandora from Avatar. A sort of planet with a mind, weather patterns at random times in response to the..visitors. Like a Pandora with self awareness.

It seems Ego will manifest as a man in this movie, as you said. I doubt he will literally shift from planet to man. Maybe, when people visit Ego, he can manifest on his planet as a man; maybe the planet can astral project as a man. IF this is the case, this could be an opportunity to introduce GAIA, if they ever choose to do so.

Imagine how cool it would be if Ego entered singing "the galaxy song" by Monty Python?

This is trippy 1970s sci fi stuff now. I love that it's taking the MCU in a new direction.

jump the shark
phrase of jump

  1. 1.
    informal
(of a television series or movie) reach a point at which far-fetched events are included merely for the sake of novelty, indicative of a decline in quality.

I truly hope this won't be the case!!!

Any chance we're being trolled and he's really playing StarFox?????

I highly doubt that's the case and I'm fine with that.

One of the things I've personally liked about Gunn's interpretation of GOTG is how much he embraces the quirkiness. Ego being Starlord's fathers fits right in with that and is more clever than it being someone like Starfox, Starhawk, or Adam Warlock.

Sometimes there is such a thing as trying to be too clever.

I'm willing to see where Gunn goes with this.

I'm glad it turned out to be a choice no one predicted.

We need some of the photoshop wizards to get on this and give us a Kurt Russell-faced planet.

Or there was ambiguity, enough so that it was worth it to just do a D-list horsetrade for the cost of a couple hours of legal time.

I wonder if their going to do the full on planet with a face thing or just a sentient planet without face. I wouldn't put it pass James Gunn tho.

I can imagine them going with a face. Not a moving face obviously, but a face none-the-less.

So in exchange for being able to change a mutant character's powers for the Deadpool movie, Fox gave Marvel an entire character to use? I think Marvel got the better end of that deal, to be honest.

I think both concessions are borderline completely inconsequential for both parties. Hard to imagine Fox were ever going to use a talking planet in their X-Men movies, even with the Dark Phoenix movie happening now.

Ego was probably with Fantastic Four, not X-Men, which might be the same boat because the FF are more likely to use Ego but less likely to have enough movies where they would get to that point.

In F4, a sapient planet is too unrealistic, so Ego becomes Eggo, the giant waffle.
