Large Shark Kills Man in New Zealand

EDIT: Never mind, I can't be bothered.

The shark should absolutely be killed. The shark wasn't defending itself, it was feeding. While this is probably mistaken identity, it doesn't mean the shark should be able to roam free and do it again if it wasn't mistaken identity.
It's one thing to suggest that the immediate shooting of the shark was justified in order to attempt to save the man's life. As an avid conservationist, even I can understand this course of action.

It is another entirely to suggest that this shark should be hunted after the fact. This seems to serve no practical purpose, and history shows that this would set a rather dangerous precedent. If the logic is that the mere presence of the shark warrants its execution, then where do you draw the line? If the logic is that this particular shark is now more likely to commit other attacks, then I'd direct your attention to the fact that the rogue shark theory has no scientific backing.

Either way, I don't think you have a leg to stand on here.

We can all argue over whether the shark should or shouldn't have been killed, but I think there's really only one thing to say on this subject:

I just want to point out that "NickNitro" aka the poster that made this thread, who is whining about the poor shark, is the same guy that made a stupid joke mocking the likely death of an innocent man that was pulled down the ground from his home due to a sinkhole.

Just a little perspective.

His other posts in that topic were nice though.

Any idiot that thinks the cop wasn't doing what he should hve done is a mind numbing freaking idiot..
I would have loved to have been shooting the shark.. I would have tried to blow its tail off so that it couldn't swim and so that it would sink to the bottom and take weeks to die a slow agonizing death..
God that would have been so much fun...

Where is that from?

People say it's safer to swim in the ocean than to drive in a car. Just call me a daredevil because I'll drive every day, but I ain't playing in a shark's food bowl.

It wouldn't take weeks to die, it would drown in a couple minutes.

Sharks have to move constantly to keep oxygen flowing through their gills.

You live somewhere where animals were displaced for you to live there. You go to the grocery store and drive on roads that killed and displaced millions or animals. You should move to the moon.

^^^This.

It's all well and good to bemoan the fate of one shark, but how many people take the time to be concerned when a new Wal-Mart or housing tract goes up where a farm or forest once stood? People should remember that every time a new subdivision is built on undeveloped land, every time a new road or highway is paved, habitat for thousands if not millions of creatures is destroyed and wildlife is killed or displaced. And that habitat will be gone forever. Then when the bears, deer, coyotes and mountain lions come into the towns we built on their former homes, we kill them for their temerity. Circle of life and all that ****.

I feel the same way about this topic as I do when Americans protest the clearing of rain forests in other countries, or their use of the same polluting forms of energy that we've used for over a century. We already clear-cut a whole ****ing continent and polluted our skies and water, yet we have the nerve to pause in our wanton destruction of the environment to berate others for doing the same.

TL;dr I worry more about the animals who died or were displaced a few years ago to make way for the new "town center" a mile away from my home than I do about some shark who killed and ate a human in New Zealand. Hakuna matata, dammit.
