I won a drag contest held by the poolside of our hotel in Spain, when our school went there for a fortnight, i was about 14. I did not look like a woman really, one of the judges(our maths teacher) told me afterwards that what swung his vote in my favour was my reply to the 'what is your ultimate ambition'? question, which was to get a role in Prisoner Cell Block H(which was one of my fav tv shows at the time).

I used to wear blue powder round my eyes before going onstage with my band, not to look feminine, more to look like a superhero with a domino type mask on. One time we did a gig downstairs from Kim Fowley, the LA record producer and songwriter/artist(he produced Born to be Wild back in 67), and when we went up to his gig after playing, he challenged me to come onstage and tried to take the piss out of me for wearing the make up on my eyes9he was taking random audience members up there and taking the piss out of them generally, he was not a nice guy), but i stood my ground, gave a speech about superheros and ended up improvising a song with his back up band, much to his chagrin. This all ended up on a live album of his, and i even got a mention in the NME for the performance when his gig was reviewed.
