That's interesting that you say Godzilla has the potential to be as big a franchise as a lot of the major ones. You would be surprised that some Godzilla fans believe it CAN'T happen and believe that not many people care for the franchise outside the fan base. It would be nice to see Godzilla become a regular thing again here in AmericaFor one, I don't think the franchise would be dead if they made a good trilogy back then. It would be in a much better place than it is now and instead of bringing it back from the dead, maybe it would be the continuation of the trilogy you mentioned. And I think Godzilla can be as popular as something like Transformers, G.I. Joe, etc. if they just put in the effort... if something like Transformers can make all of that money with a crappy story but great special effects, imagine what a Godzilla movie with an engaging story and amazing special effects could accomplish. It already has that "cool factor", all of the cool monsters just like Transformers has the cool robots and G.I. Joe has the cool soldiers for the kids to eat up. Now just interest the adults as well(great story, characters you care about) and you've got the (re)start to a fantastic franchise.
I really think giant monster/mech movies are going to get big again, starting with Pacific Rim this year and continuing with Godzilla next year.
Now let me ask you this. Do you think Pacific Rim especially if its a hit could hurt the new American Godzilla film in any way?
And do you believe that the release date for either Godzilla or Ninja Turtles will change because i cant see both movies coming out that weekend. They will both lose money.
