EXCLUSIVE: Sally Hawkins has nabbed the final lead role in Godzilla, the monster movie that Legendary and Warner Bros kicked off shooting last week in Vancouver. Hawkins (Happy Go Lucky) will play a scientist alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe, David Strathairn, Brian Cranston and Juliette Binoche. Gareth Edwards is directing Godzilla, which is slated for a 3D release on May 16, 2014. Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont and Dave Callaham wrote the script.
Hawkins recently starred in Constellations, the Nick Payne play that had a sold-out run at the UK’s Royal Court Theatre and then the West End. Her upcoming films include Almost Christmas with Paul Rudd and Paul Giamatti, which will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, and Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine which opens July 26. She is repped by ICM Partners, Principal LA and John Grant in the UK.
Of course we all know the biggest most anticipated film in the next few years is the new Star Wars. Technically Godzilla doesn't fit the "comic book movie" genre anyways, though neither does Star Wars even if they made comic books about it after the films.
First up, we've gotten word that fresh-faced actress Yuki Morita (pictured) has joined the cast in an undisclosed role. She will be filming in Vancouver and Hawaii, which we can only speculate will be doubling for Japan. Interesting!
From there Screen Daily has dropped some news that the sound mix for the film is going to be state of the art! Dolby Atmos is designed to transmit up to 128 simultaneous and lossless audio channels and renders from 5.1 up to 64 discrete speaker feeds. That means the destruction and monstrous roars are going to be the likes of which we've never heard before.
Well, no, it's only applicable to Dolby Atmos equipped theaters, which is not a lot.
I've been enjoying all of these videos from the set of Godzilla...looks like some good destruction is in store for us...I just want to see our Godzilla, the legendary King of Monsters, lay waste to all cities that he comes across, with his trademark roar and atomic breath in tact, and a look that is close to the original Japanese design.
Who thinks we are going to see some sort of teaser whether the Comic Con footage or something else in front of Pacific Rim...its too perfect of an opportunity...the same studio plus a movie about giant monsters...IT BEGS to be done!!!

Godzilla 2014 set to film in Hawaii for two months!
Godzilla 2014 is set to film on Oahu and Kauai in Hawaii for one month each, totaling two months of shooting on the island, PBN reports. Quite a different environment from the most recent Nanaimo filming location in British Columbia. It's possible this filming location could be used to mirror the scenes from the classic 1954 original, Gojira, where a group of reporters find Godzilla on Odo Island. Since Godzilla 2014 is primarily based on the TOHO original, this is the most likely assumption.

Godzilla isn't the only big-budget film to be shooting on the tropical island, Jurassic Park 4 is also set to start filming there this July as well as in Louisiana. Two massive films set to be released a month apart from each other next summer. 2014 is certainly rearing up to be quite the year for movies.

Comic Con attendees better be prepared this year.
Call it intuition.Tell us what you know!
Re: Godzilla, I only did 4 weeks on it and there've been a ton of other writers that came after me. But I believe there will be other monsters, yes. There were at least 2 others when I was mucking about with it.
Total pipe dream, but... Jet Jaguar please.
