i wonder if Pacific Rim underperforms or bombs if they will change the movie durring filming?

Here is Comic Con's official description for Godzilla:

Legendary Pictures: Godzilla -- An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence. Gareth Edwards directs Godzilla, which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, and Juliette Binoche, with David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston. The screenplay is by Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont, and Dave Callaham. Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing with Mary Parent and Brian Rogers. Alex Garcia and Patricia Whitcher are the executive producers, alongside Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira. The film is from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures.

Aren't they both so different in tone, I don't think it matters. They're going to be advertising Godzilla as a scary, epic monster movie while Pacific Rim is being advertised as a bright, fun, monster fest.

So apparently, Legendary/WB is planning a special attraction at SDCC, they're going to recreate Godzilla coming out of the ocean. No idea how they'll do it, but they rented out a warehouse a few blocks from the San Diego Convention Center. The building is deceked out in a red color, and has a Legendary symbol on it.

Looks like the Big G has been at Legendary Picture's warehouse down in San Diego :cwink: That Special Attraction might be bigger than originally expected.

I was wondering, for those who absolutely hate the 90s film -- is it because it is Godzilla and it's a really different Godzilla? Or is it the film in general? Basically just wondering what your guys thoughts would be if the monster in it was an entirely new creation without the name 'Godzilla' attached to it at all.

I did like the design for the new Godzilla....I just hated that the movie devolved into Jurassic Park-lite with the baby zilla's

That movie being my introduction to Godzilla, any thoughts of the original never effected me and I loved that it was like Jurassic Park in that I love everything about dinosaurs. Just unsure how no one can take entertainment from even a scene like this:

To my knowledge no film prior nor after ever had a helicopter chase with a reptilian monster in New York like this. And really to date, other than a brief sequence in 'The Lost World' it's really the only film of a dinosaur-like creature running a rampage throughout a city. Basically it's been the only modern one of its kind since its premiere. That I can't understand people, especially monster lovers, hating the film due to spectacle alone unless it's just hating the film as a representation of Godzilla.

hope we get a teaser trailer soon.

PR would be good to attach it to.

For me it is partially a lack of respect for the source material, but also I find the movie littered with cliche characters and really lame jokes. I'm not a huge fan of Roland emmerich.

The helicopter chase and the underwater scene with the submarines, even Godzilla's arrival in New York, are all alright, and I didn't mind the redesign either, but it's just a stupid movie IMO.

Every human character is an annoying walking cliche. The baby zillas are ripped off from Jurassic Park Raptors. It's filled with really lame attempts at humor to the point where it's halfway (sometimes more) to being a really dumb comedy.

I'm not a Roland Emmerich fan either. All of his movies are cheesy as hell, to me.

Plus the female lead in that movie is absolutely reprehensible. I actually wanted her to get eaten during the Madison square garden chase.

The story was horrible and seemed like Godzilla was thrown in just to get Broderick and his girlfriend back together.

I wasn't on board with that movie even when it came out, and that's when I was, like, eight years old.

And considering how much I loved The Phantom Menace and Batman & Robin at that time... that should tell you something.

At the time I thought The Phantom Menace was like the most awesome thing ever, but I thought Batman & Robin was stupid and the old Godzilla movies were better than Emmerich's.

Its ridiculous how much it rains in that movie. It's like Roland emmerich doesn't know how build drama or atmosphere without having it rain torrentially for what appears to be 8 or 9 consecutive days.

That movie just didn't seem Godzillay to me. I would have liked to see his other abilities too.

For those blasting the movie, what are your thoughts on Independence Day?

Yeah, it's cheesy - but it's a fun ride, which is why I've always liked it. And I loved Independence Day. Are they intellectual? Nope. But as a guy who loves dinosaurs it's the closest film that's ever given me a clear picture of what a dinosaur rampaging through a city would look like. There's been none before or after that film. I can't just understand how some people can say they liked Independence Day, enjoyed Transformers 2 and 3, yet thought Godzilla was the worst thing they ever saw because of how cheesy it is. It's the same B movie feel.

The Godzilla 'Breath of Wind'...such an amazing ability.

I think Independence Day is more enjoyable than Godzilla but just as cheesy.

ID is more exciting though.
