Being teenaged and mutated turtles who know Ninjutsu is just as crazy. Seriously, who the hell came up with that combination? Not that I'm justifying the alien thing, but still. The TMNT have always been bizarre like that.

Actually, IMO it's crazier, but then that's also one of the hooks with the Turtles. ANY well-known character could be an alien, really (Superman, Spock, the Transformers, etc., etc.), but few popular characters have ever been teenage, mutant AND ninja all in one mix.

I loved the old movies as a kid so I'll probably always miss the look with the guy in a rubber suit to a certain degree.

They could always use motion-capture. Not EXACTLY the same thing, but I'm just sayin'.

I look forward to this film very much(Godzilla 2014),but I hope this doesn't mean that Toho will stop making Godzilla films? Finals wars came out in 2004. Almost 10 years. Granted that's how long it was between 1975 and 84/85's Godzilla. Still...
I have noticed though that even Toho has jumped aboard the CGI bandwagon when it comes to Godzilla. I wonder if,eventually, they'll lose the whole "guy in a rubber suit" thing and go fully to CGI?

God,I hope not.

I think they should. For Christ sakes, it's 2013.
Yeah, but I think it does lose a charm to it if it's all CG. I always cite examples like Jaws and American werewolf in London. Those films used practical effects and are still wonderful films because of it. But when you watch movies like Deep Blue sea and An American werewolf in Paris the CGI is horrible and it really takes away from the films. I'd like to see Toho get more advanced with the effects, but I rather like the "guy in a suit" stuff. That's just me though.

Deep Blue Sea and American Werewolf in Paris not living up to Jaws and London has very little to do with their effects. Especially in the case of Paris, they just aren't good movies. They weren't even up to the standards of their own time, much less do they hold up today.

Speaking of Rick Baker, is Burton's Planet of the Apes remake a better Apes film than Rise of the Planet of the Apes just because it employs traditional makeup? I would say certainly not, as Rise manages to recreate a lot of the tone, intent and purpose of the original apes films a lot better than Burton's did while also standing on its own.

Practical effects certainly have their place. The destruction of cities often times can still be best done with models rather than the onslaught of pixels found in 2012. Practical effects remain in the toolbox, but they are not always the best tool for the job.

The original Godzilla film employed a lot of ingenuity in using the tools available at the time to tell its story and get its point across. For a new film to live up to that spirit, the filmmakers should aim to do the same.

Also, even if they're going to keep doing the guy in a suit stuff, they can build better suits and film it better as well.

i would like to see a mixture of both practical effects and computer graphics. i personally think Godzilla 2000: Millennium and Godzilla X Megaguirius are great examples of how you can mix practical effects and CG when it comes to Godzilla

A mixture is always the best way to go. However, I prefer Godzilla to be CGI, and not a guy in a suit. No matter how good the suit looks, it's still obvious that it's a guy in a suit.

Well practical effects don't have to be a suit. Its not as if someone was dressed up as the T rex on Jurassic Park.

What it comes down to is, how integral for you is the limitation of human style movement to the presentation of Godzilla?

I only mentioned a guy in a suit because you and Venom did.

Also, I don't want Godzilla moving like a human at all.

I too prefer the old-school 'guy in suit', but this is Legendary Pictures we're talking.
It may as well be a motion capture CGI Godzilla.
They can film the mo-cap actor in a chroma-key cityscape, and fill it in later with an actual city.

That's what they (20th Century Fox) did when 'Rise....Of the Apes' was being filmed.

They filmed the actors interacting with green props / or completely green backgrounds the animators filled in later on. And their budget was nearly HALF ($93 million) of what "Godzilla"'s budget is rumored to be. ($200 million)

So I'm sure they could do a mixture of CGI and practical (on camera) effects.

But that is just my opinion.

if they can do CGI successfully and effectively, then i say go for it- i just dont want to see another GINO.

Where did you hear that at?

No maninsuit, we're beyond that.

I think it's highly unlikely that we'll get another Zilla '98.

Much like how WB took notice to the reaction of B&R, I think the same will hold true with Godzilla. Where we will get a film that takes it's inspiration from Gojira, and perhaps other select films within the Godzilla franchise, than say, Jurassic Park.

What kills me with things like this is whenever it's done CGI people always complain"Aww man come on you can do that with practical effects" and then when it's done practical it's like"Aww man come on! A guy in a suit? We're way past that now, do it CGI!"

Pick one and stick with it.

There's no real reason for Godzilla to be mocapped though.

Caesar was a 4 and half foot tall primeape who had to interact with other characters on an in individual basis.

Godizilla is a giant bipedal reptile. What part of human movement would be relevant?

Or you know, different situations call for different techniques.

Giant reptiles are a pretty defensible use of CGI. Having the crowds of people running away from them, or something like that being cgi would probably not be advisable, but stuff like that happens all the time.

Or the vampires in I Am Legend, there was basically no reason for them to be fully CGI. I could see maybe if they needed some beyond human physical capabilities for some shots using a digital double, but in interacting with Will Smith or just running through the streets, they definitely should have had people in makeup.

As long as it looks ''real'' I have no problem with it. The instant I can tell its CG tho and i'm taken out of the film, any film. It just kills it for me.
