I love the Godzilla 1985 look myself, expect for the eyes. It kinda bothers me now that Godzilla has "human looking" eyes. I'm glad they changed that look for Godzilla vs. Biolantte. My favorite look is from GMK. Godzilla looked and acted truly evil. I loved the Evil Dead eyes. But he did look fatter in that one,for sure.

I'm tearing you apart Ghidorah!

Really hope the design will be somewhat of a sleeker version of the GMK design. Loved the T. Rex-ish look it had going on there.

And there has to be a scene matching this level of awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mr3nXE70fF0

Something about his eyes in that design always made me laugh. Otherwise, it's a great design and in certain angles the eyes look terrifying. I'd personally love to see a sleeker, updated version of the Millennium series ala Godzilla 2000.

This was always my favorite roar. It just made Godzilla sound massive and just like a force of nature.

That roar is awesome, and Godzilla 85 is my all time favorite Big G film. I know most like the original version, but despite some goofy lines in there,I love the American version better. It's not as deep or intelligent as the Japanese version, but it's sleeker and that action is better paced.

I prefer the American version of '85 to the Japanese version whereas it's the other way around for the original '54 movie.

Just listen to a ton of Godzilla roars...scared the crap out of me!

that was the first G movie i ever saw, and i fell in love. i also really like the ominous and brooding growls int he background of the roar for G84... very dark and monstrous, perfect for Godzilla

The Godzilla 2000 roar is the best to me. I love how it drags on and has a powerful echoing feel to it. I wouldn't mind hearing it in the 2014 movie. But I think they'll probably make their own new roar.

TBH, I wouldn't mind seeing that design remade and updated as that's probably my personal favorite design.

i prefer the 2000 design myself... i like the green tint and the size of the spikes on the back

If I ever heard Godzilla roar in real life, I would s**t my pants.

I never saw what is so great of a rubber fat suit knocking down LEGO towns (yes I know they are not Lego).

But I do enjoy Godzilla (1998). It was great FUN. Nothing special as a movie, but fun. Still better than a ridiculous looking Halloween costume knocking down LEGO.

But this is a discussion that I can't win. I just don't like it, and you all do. Fact.
Hmmm. Make a film for the minority or the majority..I have NOO idea what they'll do there.

i hope we do see something of the original movie, and i mean the 1954 classic, when Godzilla was a drama film/monster film with horror elements.

that's what makes that film so classic. it's not a "bang bang" monster movie like Cloverfield was (good movie BTW), it wasn't eared towards children (like other G movies were), and it wasn't corny (like parts of FW was)... and that's what i want to see from this film, except in an epic way.

this franchise needs to return to the original elements that made this monster... the original ideas and plans that Tomoyuki Tanaka, Ishiro Honda, and Eiji Tsubaraya had in mind when they created Godzilla... we see that in Gojira, and it needs to be majorly emphasized in this new movie desperately.

Godzilla never did get the critical acclaim that it has in Japan (at least that's what I think), so unfortunately, i dont see this movie doing numbers like Avengers and Man of Steel. the core audience is going to be overseas, so it needs that familiarity and faithfulness to the original more than ever right now.

Godzilla Final Wars was the last thing Japan came with, and now it's up to Hollywood to do this green mutated dinosaur justice and make-up for its horrendous past with this franchise

I have a feeling we will see elements of "bang bang" monster movie with the destruction and multiple monsters being in it, but I think it'll be few and far between with what the movie might try to accomplish and that is having thematic and multi-layered messages like the original did. The original, at its core, was a Sci-Fi/Monster flick, but it was also a visual metaphor for the dangers of nuclear weapons and testing. Going by Frank Darabont's comments regarding this film it looks to accomplish the same goal, but to a more modern audience.

:funny: It's just that I haven't seen you posting anything in quite a while. Then again, I mostly posted in the MOS thread haha.

Oh. Well I've been all over hype. Eh, I decided to give the MOS boards a break. I've been posting tons in those boards for the past two years or so. Now I'm chatting about Pacific Rim.

It's a known property sure, but it's still a giant monster destroying a city, not really a novel concept anymore. Not sure the general public is really clamoring for a Godzilla film, but we'll see soon enough.

Well, it's not much of the value of the concept itself, but more on how that concept is delivered.

So long as the film is well structured in execution with a well panned out script, good/great actors, a well focused but knowledgeable director, and a appealing reach towards the public, then the concept even if its not novel anymore, will survive just fine if the film around it is made well.

Now, why I believe that Gareth's Godzilla will be clamored and anticipated during 2014 is simply because after the horrible 98 film, people want a proper Godzilla film. And many who have experienced that failure of a Godzilla movie will want to see how Gareth's Godzilla measures up to the task in being a competent Godzilla film.

It's actually like how many people treated the Man of Steel during its production. Despite the icon not being much of a novel concept in itself anymore. People still wanted and welcomed a proper Superman movie. After the tasteless Superman Returns film, many wanted to see how Zack's Superman film would hold up in being a competent modern Superman film.

Even more so, the very same applied when Peter Jackson's King Kong was making its way into the film industry. (Believe me, King Kong needed a proper revival after the terrible King Kong Lives bombed)

i've pretty much have watched all the G films but...what does GMK stand for?

i'm sure i will feel stupid once someone tells me...

One thing I really hope to see is hardcore engagement with Godzilla or the other two monsters and the military. I'm talking rows of tanks and skies filled with fighter jets. They really gotta include something like that.
