Empty Chairs >>> I Dreamed a Dream. :p

Always was...at least in terms of wrenching sadness.
I've always preferred Dream, but Redmayne's performance is otherworldly. Though that could be because he looks like a beatiful alien. :p

Also, the soundtrack is #3 on iTunes, and IDAD is #55 on the singles chart. :wow::wow::wow::wow:

Michael Ball singing Empty Chairs was always a killer on the symphonic recording was always a killer, back in my early Les Mis fandom days...

Eddie is adorable. :hrt:

Everyone I know is seeing this next week. I'm getting the sense this just might be huge. At least I hope so. :yay:

For some reason, my local theater is playing this a day earlier... on the 24th. Is that suppose to happen?

I disagree. He has some not so good parts, but so does Jackman.

I just don't think Crowe was up to the task. It looks like he was so focused on hitting his notes he can't emote or "perform" at all.

ok, for those who've seen it, a question about

Fantine's arrest.

Is Javert still the one who arrests Fantine? And is Valjean the one who orders Javert to free her? Did they change the sequence of events?

Also, how "harsh" is Javert towards Fantine? Does he treat her coldly or is he somewhat sympathetic towards her?

Trying to get a feel for what kind of man Crowe's Javert is.......is he portrayed as the "villain?"

-Fantine isn't really arrested. But Javert is there. Valjean intervenes in the same scene and listens to her story when a guy complain she assaulted him, and takes her to a hospital instead.

-He doesn't really interact with her. He acts cold toward her plight but he lets Valjean state her story and take her to a hospital instead of arresting her. So more like indifferent.

-Crowe's Javert is an antagonist but he's not really a villain. He's portrayed as a soldier obeying the law and doing his job. The only characters I'd describe as true villains are the Thenardiers. Javert comes off as a grey character in the movie. The problem is that it was a weak performance by Crowe.

thanks!

Just saw it this afternoon here in Perth Australia.

There was no disappointment at all! The best performance ever from Hugh Jackman. Ann Hathaway nails it. Russell Crowe step up when he needs to - what a great actor can do when his voice may be just a little weak. Eddie Redmayne is wonderful singing Empty Chairs!

The only thing that was a distraction to me was some of the camera work - the tops of the heads of some people were cut off. Don't know if this was some kind of technique, but it sure was distracting.

We hear more of "On my own" than in the OMO clip, and there are perhaps clips we haven't seen yet, but I don't know, because there have been so many clips it doesn't really matter ...

I got my tickets, seeing it after work on the 24th. I have got to say, I was very surprised how filled the cinema is (half full)– pre-orders aren't a huge thing here, along with musicals... and having a theater half full like that is close to TASM territory.

I love the highlights soundtrack!!

this movie is going to be so ******* sad.......

the one thing I didn't like in the soundtrack was the way they cut off the end of On My Own or made it transition into One Day More.....

why couldn't they just make it a self-contained song that has a proper ending like all the other songs.......

I don't see what the problem is. It's a lovely transition.

so tempted to listen to the soundtrack but i want to hear it for the first time when i see the film

watching the 25th anni version atm, must admit i was a bit iffy at first about nick jonas but he's not bad
