Aaron Tveit is FINALLY there!

And he is SO cute! I'm reviewing my mostly blurry pictures now.

Russell's band mates were there as well. I saw Alan Doyle, Kevin Durand, and Scott Grimes going in.

George Blagden/Grantaire made the trip over and sounds like he met up with Aaron:

George Blagden @gblagden
R has spoken with E. Seems there may be some sort of reunion tomorrow evening.... #E/R

Nice photo of Aaron:

This is the most halfway-decent shot I got of Hugh, Anne, and Hooper tonight:

Very nice, danoyse. We see pictures of these guys all the time, but when a fan has taken the snap and seen the guys for themselves, it's really special.

My mom (whose name is also Anne), spotted her first. Her first response, "There's Anne Hathway...oh wow, she's beautiful!"

Pictures are huge, so they're in the spoiler tag:

I took this one too - I was trying to get that picture of Hugh before that cab passed. I only realized later that Amanda Seyfried was standing next to him:

That smiling blur next to Tom Hooper is Russell Crowe:

Photo of the whole cast at the premiere, including Aaron Tveit and George Blagden (Grantaire) minus Helena.

Yeah, the recovery so far has been nice. But those first batch of reviews were a mess. Granted, they were all about how awful they felt the SHOW was, and not so much the film itself. Biased natures.

Exactly. Obviously, it's going to have detractors, the stage version had plenty of them too, and it's a show that's always been more beloved by audiences than the critics.

But as soon as soon as a reviews goes into how much they disliked the show, or how dumb the audience has been for liking it all this time, I quit reading.

I'm still getting over the person on the other forum I read who went to the SAG screening and could not be made to understand why it wasn't made to sound exactly like her cast recording. "Why are they acting what is clearly a singing role?!" she said.

An entirely sung-through musical, based on a 1500-paged classic, is just meant to bring the bad side out of critics.

There's going to be some critics who will never, ever, accept a musical as a legitimate film, so Les Miz was bound to have a RT glass ceiling.

I hope Anne never grows her hair back. It is such a great look for her.

Finally, an interview with Aaron! Hugh's wife is also interviewed after him, and a tiny one of Hugh at the end (I think as he was going into the theater).

http://movies.broadwayworld.com/videoplay.cfm?colid=437038

They were rushing them down the red carpet at the end. I think the premiere was supposed to start at 7, and they were still out there talking to the press at 7:15. I saw them racing Anne and Hugh through the last few interviews before they went inside.

Don't like at all how Hathaway is breathing before she starts to sing; it almost looks like parody. The rest was excellent. They took the spitting scene from the book, I believe :D

She spit in his face in the stage musical too.

That whole scene is based on something that actually happened. I read it in a book about Les Mis that I have from when the show was still fairly new. Victor Hugo had seen a young prostitute arrested for 'attacking a gentleman', when in reality the 'gentleman' had been the one to shove a handful of slush down the back of her dress. She reacted in shock and slapped him.

Hugo followed them to the police station, where the woman was in hysterics after being sentenced immediately to 6 months in prison, and that's when Hugo intervened and told the police what he had seen.

They tried to dismiss him, but he told them who he was, and the police released the woman 15 minutes later. She was overheard afterwards saying "How good the monsieur was...".

Which is where "Good monsieur" comes from in Les Mis. :cwink:

There was a Les Mis event today and Kristopher Tapley (one of the Podcast people tweeted stuff. Fascinating!

Kristopher Tapley @kristapley
Off to Les Mis luncheon. Because one can never eat too many lunches in awards season apparently.

Amy Nicholson @TheAmyNicholson
Annnnnd just like that, LES MIZ is back in the game. Now who wants to take me up on my bet that it wins Best Picture? #CriticsChoice

Kristopher Tapley Kristopher Tapley @kristapley
@TheAmyNicholson It was never out of the game.

Amy Nicholson @TheAmyNicholson
@kristapley Kinda was when ZDT had its critics group-induced sec feeling like a lock. But just when Hooper was out, they pulled him back in.

Kristopher Tapley @kristapley
@TheAmyNicholson Not when you talk to Academy members. Important mantra: critics don't vote for Oscars.

Kristopher Tapley @kristapley
This looks to be by far the biggest one of these so far. Goin' for the gold. #lesmis

Kristopher Tapley @kristapley
By far the best part of this thing: I give you Robert Wuhl not giving a *beep* while singing by the piano. My hero. pic.***********/67upzxpm

Kristopher Tapley @kristapley
They're commandeering the piano. Samantha Barks singing some soul for the hell of it. Playing this room like a fiddle.

Carlota Martinho @carlotagagaloo
@kristapley Les Misérables' Metascore hasn't gone up, it has actually decreased. Do you think it can beat Zero Dark Thirty for Best Picture?

Kristopher Tapley @kristapley
@carlotagagaloo Yes.

Carlota Martinho @carlotagagaloo
@kristapley I read why you think it can, but, ultimately, I don't think the most emotional film is the winner. Have you seen it?

Kristopher Tapley @kristapley
@carlotagagaloo Yeah, and just got out of a room full of Academy members in love with it.

Carlota Martinho @carlotagagaloo
@kristapley I'm sure it's possible, I still really want to see it, but it'd be a shame if ZDT lost to Les Mis. What did you think of it?

Kristopher Tapley @kristapley
@carlotagagaloo I like Les Mis. ZDT is unquestionably a more accomplished piece of work.

Carlota Martinho @carlotagagaloo
@kristapley If Les Mis was out of the race or down to 3rd place, do you think Lincoln would win to ZDK or the other way around?

Kristopher Tapley @kristapley
@carlotagagaloo I think the race is between Les Mis and Lincoln.

Carlota Martinho @carlotagagaloo
@kristapley Because of how the Academy members are reacting to them, not in terms of actual quality, in your opinion, right?

Kristopher Tapley @kristapley
@carlotagagaloo Always.

Eh, I know very little about film, but I am an illustrator/designer so I know enough about composition, and I see nothing wrong with the way its shot. Quite the opposite, actually. I like how unique it is.
