Lethal Weapon Reboot Series in the Works at WBTV and FOX

Really? Wow. Can't believe I'm the first person here to say I dig this and I was dreading it. It's different from the movie in tone, but I LIKE that it's different from the movie. The main thing here is the chemistry between them is great. The only negative thing that struck me and stands out like a sore thumb, but they might explain it, there's no way Murtagh can own that house on a cop's salary, it was practically a mansion in a very expensive city to live in.

I liked the show. I loved the chemistry and hope to see more interaction with the other officers on the force. As for the house, I'm assuming that the wife has a high paying job and Murtagh is police vet who appears to be on the last few years on the force which would entitle him to a nice salary w/bonuses. Plus, this is TV...everybody has a nice million dollar mansion, lol. Even Riggs' trailer was sorta plushed out.

That's what I'm thinking, that a lot of it coming from the wife or potentially inherited it.

I quite liked the first episode. Riggs legitimately pulled at the heartstrings for me. That being said, it is nothing like Lethal Weapon. It is much more its own thing.

It wasn't awful but I have the same problem I had with the Rush Hour series in that I can't help but see the TV actors as subpar versions of the original movie characters.

Waynes was in the Shane Black written The Last Boy Scouts.

Which is what I think largely works for it and what grabbed me. I didn't want a repeat of 'Lethal Weapon' just made for TV. I wanted the chemistry to be there between the two leads and for them to go somewhere new and different with it, which is what it did in spades. Those wanting 'Lethal Weapon' the movie but TV are going to be disappointed, those wanting a fun cop show are probably going to like it. I love that it's less serious than the films, because not only does it make it different from the film but also from the billion other cop shows on the market.

I saw the pilot. Most of the time it still came off as an imitation despite some differences. Feel like the show has a limited ceiling.

I thought it was ok, if it wasn't carrying the Lethal Weapon title I think people would be less harsh on it. The action was mostly good bar the clunky editing on the Grand Prix chase, and I liked the guy playing Riggs and there was the start of some potential chemistry with Murtaugh and him. I also really liked Trish, I hope her role is expansive in the show.

Yeah. Keesha Sharp was good as Trish.

The LW films got more comical each sequel.

Forgot this was premiering. Reading some of the reviews... I'm hesitant to watch it. But like Rush Hour the series I'm sure it will die quickly if it really is that bad.

Having seen it, it suffers from Rush Hour's problem: It would have been better had they not tried to remake a television series from a movie that they are quickly ignoring.

It wasn't a bad episode but it did not say "Lethal Weapon" to me either.

But with it being on FOX, it stands almost no chance to make it past the first season.

Unfortunately true.

Gotham, Lucifer, Empire, Sleepy Hollow, Scream Queens all made it past the first season.

I hope it's better than Rush Hour.

It got a 2.2. Which is great for Fox. About twice what Rush Hour got.

I really enjoyed the first episode. Good chemistry between all the main characters and damn fun action.

Is it obvious to everyone else that Roger has
Miranda's heart and that Riggs' used his father-in-laws connections to get assigned as his partner?

I think Roger only had a heart attack not a transplant

Yeah, heart attack, not transplant.

Finished watching the 2nd episode. It's ok but nothing special. I don't know if it's really like the films. It seems to be its own thing.

The wife seems to be a lawyer, which is how they can afford that house.

The show has put more focus on Riggs psychological issues than I expected, overall I think it's been a solid start.

I only watched the first episode so far, and other than Murtaugh's magical truck-jump I really enjoyed it. It's a shame they couldn't just switch some names around and call it something else, because slapping the Lethal Weapon title on it has turned a lot of folks off.

Sadly I don't expect the show to do very well. I expect it would have done better without the misguided desire for name recognition.

I'm liking it more than Rush Hour's attempt and without the association with Lethal Weapon I think it would do better. The show isn't as bad as I was expecting but it is only two episodes in.

I think this show is more interesting than Macgyver. It probably could've benefited by not having the Lethal Weapon title though.

The Riggs/Murtaugh and Rog/Trish dynamics are developing nicely and this weeks Armored truck stuff felt like a neat nod to Lethal Weapon 3.

Trish is a lawyer in this, so they'd definitely have the money. And according to this link below, detectives in LA can earn up to $110,000 a year, not including bonuses for performance and length of employment. I seem to recall the show mentioning him being a lieutenant (instead of a sergeant like the films), which sees a salary of over $120k.

As for the quality of the show, I'm still on the fence. I like the guy playing Riggs, but I feel like they're making him too goofy; film Riggs was funny too, but it was more obvious that humor came from a dark place, that even when he was being a clown, there was a weight or seriousness behind it. Here though, he almost feels like Bugs Bunny, utterly carefree and full of joy, until the requisite scene where we have to be reminded he's sad each episode. It's awkward and clunky but perhaps they'll learn to balance his humor and pain out a little better.

There are a ton of just utterly stupid things to the show that really hurt it for me, but overall I am surprised that I'm enjoying it. I honestly didn't expect to. They're doing fairly well at honoring the films while doing their own thing. I don't see the show lasting past this season however.

Fox orders a full season

I guess it's doing well enough for Fox to order another 8 episodes, rounding out to 18 for season one. Is this a decent sign there will be a season 2? Magical trucks aside, I'm still hoping the show can find a decent audience and move forward on it's own merit.

"We don't talk about the situation in front of civilians!" :funny: The shower fight scene was hilarious, but I thought they overdid Roger's reaction to Riggs helping his son, he never gave him a chance to explain and then chinned him.
