Lethal Weapon Reboot Series in the Works at WBTV and FOX

I read something the other day about him being on the brink of being fired, but I didn't think they'd go through with it. The best call is to just end it but I think it's one of Fox's better rated shows so they are trying to save it.

'Tis a shame about Crawford's on set behaviour. He was the reason I watched the show.

They could replace him with Scott MacArthur from The Mick and no one would tell the difference. :o

You have to have some set on you for ego tripping over being the lead in the basic cable Lethal Weapon reboot.

And I'm not saying the show is bad. It's decent to good from what I've seen, but still

I think if anyone would have a cocky ego on the series it would be Damon Wayans who actually had been famous for several years before the series boosted his profile again.

Instead it is Clayne Crawford who I had not really heard of before despite appearing in several series I had watched.

To be clear about Wayans, I have heard nothing bad about his behavior on the set or in general. It appears Wayans is one of those who can't/won't work with Crawford.

From what's been said about Wayans, he doesn't do table reads for the show, which has rubbed some of the cast wrong. Also, the show has no true show runner to keep people in line, instead relying on a couple on-set producers to tend to Wayans, Crawford, and the rest of the crew. Based on what's been said about the one incident during an episode Crawford directed, it was Wayans who was hit by a stray piece of shrapnel/debris that the stunt team were surprised by after doing a couple test-runs of the stunt without problems. After the incident, Wayans was being difficult on any further stunts, including not wanting to have his gun drawn while simply walking down stairs. They were also behind schedule on that episode due to Wayans having called in sick the day before so I could see the tensions and emotions running a bit high on set. Too bad that things aren't going to work out for this show.

It sounds like it's just a bad work environment from Crawford and Wayans

Yeah, I read this as well. It sounded like Wayans was the problem, at least there.

As for the other on-set incident with Crawford, he reportedly got in a heated argument with the guest director and assistant director over a stunt that he felt was unsafe and they weren't hearing his concerns, which supposedly stem from a previous injury he suffered on another set a few years back doing a similar stunt. Other than the two I've read about, it doesn't seem like he's had any other problems, with many of his current and former co-stars saying he's the consummate professional and a "true Southern gentleman" on-set.

Actually really enjoyed Season 1 despite being mega-skeptical on this from the start. This guy's actually a pretty awesome Riggs. Never got around to seeing the second year though.

But yeah, a re-cast in Season 3 is insane, way too jarring. Just end it.

Interesting hearing the different sides of this though, sounds like both guys have been difficult. What do we figure, Wayans threw a little weight around and said "it's him or me"? Only just heard about this, but from reading a couple articles on it it doesn't really seem like the Crawford stuff was all that bad. Assuming there's not more to it that hasn't become public.

From what I've read, it does sound like Crawford has had some other instances of being difficult and moody on-set but Crawford himself said that he sometimes had a hard time dropping the emotional mindspace needed to play someone like Riggs and that it had carried over even after filming every so often.

Yeah. I'm just not really seeing "yelling at a stunt co-ordinator over feeling they're not listening to your safety concerns" as rising to firing-worthy, y'know? Especially given Wayans having some issues of his own over a stunt. And if Crawford was really difficult to work with in a broader general sense, you wouldn't think they'd let him actually direct episodes in addition to acting.

There's gotta be more to it.

i hope they cancel the show now because without crawford the show makes no sense anymore

I only just read about Wayans last night and while he sounds somewhat whiny over a few things there he has not risen to prima-donna levels of celebrity ego. Getting injured in a stunt happens, dealing with or being a difficult actor happens. But none of what was said has been unusual. Especially without the normal structure a series like this would have. If anything it sounds like they are mainly dealing with inexperience on the set.

So far whatever happened with Crawford to justify Fox deciding to fire him and try recasting has not come out yet. If it were sexual harassment or flat out physical assault I'm sure we would know by now so it has to be something more.

Lethal weapon is one of the most stunt heavy shows on tv at moment. I'm not too surprised that the lead actors have been injured or worried about getting injured.

The lack of a proper showrunner probably doesn't help things.

I really enjoy this show but they should probably just cancel it now. I'm not interested in seeing Riggs recast or replaced

I don't know. In this age of serial sexual assaulters constantly being outed for the scumbags they are, and egomaniacal actor seem pretty tame, even if he was a real A-hole on set. I don't watch the show (in fact, I didn't even know it was still on) but reading through some of this stuff it sounds like the show had a ton of problems and they're just making him the fall guy. Maybe not, but it seems like there are rumors of every actor out there being some level of a jerk on set.

I mean that's a real silly thing to say.

If the reports are true and costars don't want to work with him, then they made the right call.

It sounds like it's mainly Wayans that didn't want to work with him anymore since they film together the most. From what the guy in the reddit thread was saying, the other cast members don't seem to have as much of a problem with him.

If that PA quote DarkShadow posted is legit, that sounds more like it. More an accumulation of general bad behavior, not any one thing enough to be fired over, but all just building up and he kept on doing it.

I was wondering if whether he might have hit the stunt co-ordinator too during their argument and that was the writing on the wall, but sounds like not. Probably just lots of little d*ckbag things eventually pissing off one too many producer types.

Also, Damon Wayans has been on our TV screens off and on for 30 years. He doesn't need to be doing stunts at his age. Isn't he like the oldest member of the cast?

Wayans is 57. Not surprised a guy pushing sixty is wary of stunt work. Network TV is very fast paced as well. They can churn out a episode a week. They don't necessarily have months to plan out stunt scenes like they do with movies.

Funny enough Damon Wayans co-starred in Shane Black's other scripted buddy action comedy film The Last Boy Scout back in 1991.

Wayans and Bruce Willis didn't get along on that film.

Shane Black killed off Martin Riggs at the end of his Lethal Weapon 2 draft that never got made. Black considers his Lethal Weapon 2 script draft (also known as play dirty) as the best script he ever wrote.

So, apparently the show was saved by Stifler.

http://variety.com/2018/tv/news/lethal-weapon-renewed-season-3-seann-william-scott-1202808578/

“Lethal Weapon” has been renewed for a third season at Fox, Variety has learned.

In addition, Seann William Scott will be joining the series following the firing of series co-lead Clayne Crawford. Crawford’s exit from the series came two weeks after it was revealed the former “Rectify” star had twice been reprimanded for his behavior on the “Lethal Weapon” set. In a statement posted on Instagram, Crawford provided details of two on-set incidents for which he was reprimanded, both related to concerns over working conditions.
