Let's Make The Marijuana Thread Again!

Does anyone have a problem with requesting a merger of this and the Legalization thread? Having two threads with the same articles crossposted seems redundant. Maybe change the title to 'The Cannabis Reform and Discussion thread'?

I suggest that last because some advocates feel the term marijuana has too many negative connotations and prefer the scientific term, although personally I don't mind either one. I believe it's been mentioned by a few other posters here as well.

I vote in favor

Also, I am of the (personal) opinion that cannabis SHOULD be the name that people use to refer to the plant. "Marijuana" in its origin was a derogatory pejorative coined by William Randolph Hearst in his yellow journalism campaign which helped demonize it in the first place.

imagine, like the alcohol thread, we just talk about the times you get turnt and discuss you're favorite booze.

minus the pro legalization thing in reality, aside from posts related to that, that's a part of what this thread has been. I hope I'm making sense.

But anyways, hey, if it's unanimous and everyone says why not, why not? Go for it.

Marijuana Decreases Insulin Resistance, Improves Blood Sugar Control

"Epidemiologists at the Harvard School of Public Health, the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center have discovered something surprising about the metabolic effects of Cannabis sativa, better known as marijuana. A drug notorious for giving users the munchies can in fact help moderate blood sugar levels, waist size, and body mass index (BMI)."

So weird, Ireland with the green theme and lush landscape seems perfect for legal ganja.

I know, right?!

The tourist ads would write themselves.

ugh. man this weekend was wild.

anyways yeah, so if everyone is in compliance to have this merged, i'm for it too

This thread is far more active than the one in the politics section.

So if they must be merged, this one should be the main thread.

word. but that could be because this thread's not all about the political agenda.

I personally don't care whether it's merged or not, but I'm not opposed to it if everyone else does.

all I know is... after the passed 2 days, I think it's time I shape up more.

I wouldn't mind a merge. This can be an all inclusive Cannabis thread for talk of recreational use, legalisation arguments/news, & just random and general weed articles & chat.

I posted a youtube documentary in the other thread about how it became illegal in the first place, well worth a watch for anyone who hasn't seen it.

That was my intent behind the suggestion, it just bugs me that there are two fairly slow threads and I felt one slightly more active one would suffice. There's no political "agenda" that precludes personal discussions and whatnot. We're pretty much all on the same page as far as usage is concerned I reckon.

But I don't want to push the issue as I don't need another JJJ Ulcer spending the next six months telling everyone I pooped in his thread cheerios so if baneful wants this one left alone that's up to him.

c'mon bro, I said twice already on this page that i've got absolutely no issue with a merge.

Edit: actually I said it 3 times. and as for why I say political agenda... do I even need to explain it, the other thread is in the politics section after all.

If we're also talking about getting "turnt," one time I was addled and decided that I absolutely needed to play basketball and declared myself King of the Court before being held inside the car by force.
Party poopers.

Today in Ireland, and for the next couple of days, Ecstasy, Ketamine, Mushrooms, f***ing Crystal Meth and a bunch of other drugs were just made legal through a Court of Appeal ruling that deemed part of a Misuse of Drugs Act from 1997 to be unconstitutional. (It doesn't affect Cannabis though, still illegal).

Government panicking, going to sit late tonight to try to ban everything again.

Crystal Meth is legal but Cannabis isn't... I just can't...:lmao:

Cannabis should have been on that list, but hey, can't say I'm sad about mushrooms becoming legal. Most if not all drugs should be decriminalized.

I'm hoping it forces the discussion of drug policy reform into the mainstream media, they do their damnedest to ignore it. Something big like this (this is painting our Govt as a joke worldwide right now :D ) might just be the ticket. Fingers crossed.

I think decrim. is a half-step measure though. It leaves too much grey area/no mans land, with a lot or even most revenue still going to gangs/cartels. And there's often still penalties for users when I don't think there should be any penalties for using.

Everything should be regulated, be it legal medically and/or recreationally. Take it all out of the cartel hands, get quality control & tax on production & sales, create thousands of jobs, restrict youth access, fund help for actual addicts, etc.

Well yeah that is the ultimate goal in my head, but it might be too big of a leap in the eyes of most people.

True. I suppose some baby steps will be needed first.

we just need to vote out anyone opposed to it that's all. fresh blood is what this country needs. this 98% incumbency ratio is killing us.

i would only do mushrooms once or twice a year.

I doubt very much that it passes (can you imagine?! what a huge win that would be!), but it's getting the conversation out there, and that can only be a good thing.
it'd be the 2nd biggest & best news story of 2015 after the spiderman deal.

Obama Thinks You Kids Need to Cool It With the Weed Legalization Stuff

kvjwt0pmauos0pbzgyz7.jpg

On Monday, Vice published their interview with President Obama and—besides some B-roll of Shane Smith in his safari helmet—it was mostly the kind of thing you'd see on a traditional news network. One key difference, however, was the "number one question" suggested by Vice's audience: What does the President think about legalizing marijuana?

"First of all it shouldn't be young people's biggest priority," Obama told Vice. "Let's put it in perspective. Young people, I understand this is important to you. But you should be thinking about climate change, the economy, jobs. War and peace. Maybe way at the bottom you should be thinking about marijuana."

Of course, for many young Americans, their primary experience with war is the War on Drugs, an expensive, racist enterprise and one of the few armed conflicts the Obama administration could start ending without firing a shot. However, the President did offer some of his clearest comments on the topic, saying that current policy "doesn't make sense" while stopping short of advocating legalization.

"I'd separate out the issue of decriminalization of marijuana from encouraging its use," said Obama, later adding, "I always say to folks, legalization or decriminalization is not a panacea. Do you feel the same way about meth? Do we feel the same way about coke? How about crack? How about heroin? There is a legitimate, I think, concern about the overall effects this has on society, particularly vulnerable parts of our society."

Ultimately, as his administration has done in the past, the President suggested that rescheduling marijuana was a task best left to Congress and not the attorney general.

"At a certain point, if enough states end up decriminalizing, then Congress may then reschedule," said Obama.

Until then, the President thinks you youngsters should worry about the kind of thing you can actually do something about, like climate change.

Interesting

How about he reschedule cannabis tomorrow then we can all focus on other matters.

"Let's put it in perspective. Politicians, I understand this is important to you. But you should be thinking about climate change, the economy, jobs. War and peace. Maybe way at the bottom you should be thinking about lining your own pockets with lobby dollars & maintaining your 'elite' status."

uhh, how about this mr. president

we'll cool it with the weed legalization stuff, if the cops cool it with ruining our lives when we're trying to safely and peacefully have fun smoking/obtaining/having it. how's that?

Having fun isn't a reason. You ruin your own life if you don't follow laws...not cops. Come on....

This is the problem with weed legalization...it needs better messaging. Health benefits need to be outlined. Decrease costs through less jail expenses need to be outlined. More tax revenue needs to be outlined. Focus your messaging stoners.

Um.plenty of legalization advocates point out increased tax revenue, various medical use, industrial use (hemp), racially biased enforcement of drug laws, less strain on the criminal justice system, the hypocrisy of allowing alcohol but not cannabis, etc.

Personal freedom is just one of the arguments made by legalization activists.
