The Dark Knight Likes And Dislikes

-Joker having a "two-note" theme.

I've wondered if it could be anything like that short theme they use in TAS when Joker shows up. He has a full theme and then just a few piano notes as well.

John Williams is the Timbaland of Classical music.

Hahahahaha!

Likes:

-Everything concerning Heath's Joker. Can't wait to watch him in this.

-Change in locations during the film (Hong Kong, as opposed to just Gotham like in Begins)

-Gyllenhaal replacing Katie Holmes. She may actually have some emotion.

-The new suit (Me and the other like 3 people who actually don't mind it)

-(Judging from the trailers) Batman doing more flyin around, jumpin of huge buildings

Dislikes:

-Contrary to what bale and Caine said in the end of Begins, the "rennovations in the south-west corner" appear to just be a new dull parking garage with a toolbox and a monitor system occupying the space.

-No actual bats present in the film from what we've seen.

-Scarecrow. Just totally unnessecary.

-Joker having a "two-note" theme. They better be some freakin amazing notes. Should have a theme just as epic as Molossus from Begins, but more dirtier and in your face, like teh joker.

-Lack of collaboration with John Williams concerning the new score. Not to disrespect the work of Zimmer, but John Williams is the Timbaland of Classical music. Everyone likes it and its always a success. The music from Starwars is UNREAL.

I have to disagree with you on these two. I think a "two-note" theme for the Joker sounds great, just think what that kind of them did for JAWS. The part with JW is really strange because he has never had anything to do with the Batman movies.

The cave/manor isn't rebuilt yet. I can almost guarantee it will be by the end of the film.

No bats in the film? We've only seen 2 trailers. And if that's all we're going by, then Scarecrow, Anthony Michael Hall's character, and dozens of other elements aren't in the film either. :o

This guy is right, there are so many unknowns in this movie so to exclude anything based on the trailers is simply silly.

the fact that the french release has been repushed to august 13th AGAIN !!!!!!!!

Sucks man.... really does. They do that in Greece too, in fact, I commented about it 2 days ago. Thank God they decided to bring TDK on July 17th here, though. Thank God. Hang in there

Well at least you guys have your own teams in the football European Championship tournament...btw, I've been rooting for France for over 10 years. :yay:

And that's good to hear that the greece opening day got pulled back. The movie opens on July 25th here in Finland.

But, for instance, when Batman fought Ra's, who is supposed to be his equal/superior, there's no need for that style. Ra's isn't afraid of him; he knows him as Bruce Wayne, his failed protege`. Yes, I'm very familiar with all this. My original post was badly written. I understand that there was no need to present Batman as this unnatural hunter when he fought Ra's. But the fight was still very fast, hard, quickly cut, intensive, the camera was very up close and personal etc. That's exactly what I wanna see also in the future. And of course the predatory aspect when Batman takes down common thugs.

This technique is only thematically justified under certain circumstances, namely against thugs - the superstitious and cowardly lot.

Ditto for when Batman faces Joker, who has no fear.
But that wouldnt allow for any good fight scenes. Goons can still be shown scared without the messy scenes. I can only justify Nolan for the docks scene. He wanted to show batman as a wraith and to finally reveal him on the car holding Falcone. Fair enough. Its time to stop this.

You can clearly show the thugs as scared and as being superstitious while the audience gets a clear view of what is going on. We could get one or two shots where we see Batman through their superstitious eyes (him looking something like the Bat-demon that Crane saw and moving too fast for them).
What about that?

Wait, why isnt Finland in the Euro Cup?

You're preaching to the choir, my friend. I thought it only worked great in the docks scene.

For the most part, I'm ready for some clear, well-shot fight scenes, for which the stunt men and fight trainers can really get the credit they deserve. Why spend months training if we can barely see it?

The best Bats has ever looked fighting is in Batman Forever, sadly.

Wait, why isnt Finland in the Euro Cup?

Because we suck. When it comes to sport, we're only good at driving fast(formula, rally) and playing icehockey. This makes me sad cuz football(soccer) has always been the most important game for me personally. We only have Jari Litmanen who once was one of the greatest but nowadays he's way too old. Also Sami Hyypia is a great defenseman but he's no youngster anymore either. We also have good goalkeepers but that's not enough. We don't have enough young and talented players so the future looks pretty grim for finnish football.

1. The cowl. I think he was actually moving his head in the Comcast trailer.

2. The utterly raw emotion and psychosis of Heath's Joker.
- Heaths laugh
- His smile.
- His length and how slim he is.
3. Scarecrow return. I mean why not? We're gonna get Joker, Two Face, and Scarecrow in the same flick and NOT everyone is ecstatic?

4. Scale of the movie.

5. Batman flying again!!

6. Looks like the tumbler gets destroyed.

7. Lots of other nuances.

Dislikes (lotta little stuff)

1. Jokers "makeup". I can spend hours explaining why.

2. The blue filter. I loved the brown begins filter. It was much more dirty and moody.

3. blond Dent. (sorta small)

4. Theres still no grooves at the end of the cape. (again small)

5. The possibility that the Joker will just "come and go as he pleases" and that Dent will be the "driving force" behind the story.

6. It looks like (and this is just speculation from the trailers) a good chunk of the movie takes place in daytime. I hope that doesn't mean alot of the Joker's antics will take place in the day.

7. Two note theme. You serious?

8. Other junk.

what's the matter with that ????

I guess I've been spoiled by Danny Elfman and especially Shirley Walker. Still though, we're talking about potentially the greatest comic villain ever, and this is definitely looking like one of the great villain performances ever in cinema. So I'd really love for the Joker to have a deep dark emotional theme.

You mean scallops right?
There are, but they arent many small ones, but a few big ones. Just watch the trailers or the comcast and look at the scene where Batsy flies next to that Hong Kong skyscraper. The cape looks badass and a lot like an actual bat. I hated how Keaton's glider had about 1000 of those little scallops. The downside of course is that because they are so big and the cape so long (touches the ground, which i like) you cant see the scallops. I am fine with that. I like how the glider looks. Its more....cerial!

In my mind the constant and repetitive use of the glorious, epic, dark Barbastella has resulted in my copying it over Elfman's theme as far as batman is concerned. Now when i think of batman, i think of Barbastella and the rest of Zimmer's keys.
Not that i dont hold Elman's or BTAS' music up there. Its just that Barbastella is so much more modern and goddamn good for the goddamn Batman!

I honesty love it!

See this is the thing. There clearly there when he's flying, but are somehow missing when he's on ground level. Still, a small thing nonetheless.

I suppose its a technical thing. When the cape doesnt touch the ground and the scallops are small, they will be visible.

But in BB and TDK the scallops are really huge. When the cape becomes a glider you see that there is a huge portion of cloth there. Thats why when the cape is hanging all that cloth just folds on itself and you cant see them.

On the other hand, maybe they should be seen when the cape is spread on the flour. When Batman is kneeling for example the cape could spread and the scallops could become visible. I think that this is a very standard pose for Batman actually.

So i dont really know why we dont see them. I could see them though when batman was climbing on that wall talking to the kid. His cape was definitely not a simple piece of cloth like Superman's. You could roughly see some scalloping going on there. But i dont really miss them. I definitely dont miss the little Keaton scallops no matter how classic, incorporated into the design they might be. Nolan gave us a better option. Why cant we accept it like the change of the emblem?
I am not suggesting removing them. Just using those big un's!

I also prefer Zimmers take on Batman. Elfman scores all sound alike to me, Spider-man 1 and 2 where almost the same. And the feel of his Batman themes can sometimes feel campy/goofy.

Likes:
-Heath's performance
-Supposedly longer runtime. I've noticed summer blockbusters are getting longer and longer, and I'm glad that this runtime is positively epic.
-Batman doing more flying, gliding, and general building climbing.
-More detective work. One thing that was sorely missing in BB was a true display of Bruce's intellect.
-Maggie as Rachel.
-The design of the Joker's makeup.

Dislikes:
-Lack of permawhite, obviously.
-The suit. I appreciate its mobility, but it's horribly clunky and graceless. I hope it appears alright in the film.
-The Joker's barely-grean hair and the fact that so much flesh shows through the makeup. It does get rather distracting. I love the basic design of the makeup, though, and these aren't reall a huge deal.
-The fact that much of the movie seems to be taking place during the day. I hope the Joker commits more night crimes.

To be fair, Zimmer repeats himself constantly. Probably because he scores seemingly 2/3 of the Hollywood movies every year.

But his take is much better suited for Nolan than Elfman.

Agreed on all counts, but not too worried about the day/night thing - plenty of night-time footage in those trailers (the penthouse raid and trailer flipping sceen occur at night). I will add:
Likes:
Eckhart as Harvey Dent - cannot wait to see his performance, I have a good feeling about this.
The complexity of the storyline.
Inspiration from HEAT - one of my favourite films.
Increased action, from what I can tell.
Dislikes (concerns):
Engel/fake Batmen: where do they fit in? Don't want them taking away from the mainstoryline, cluttering it up.
Dialogue: some clunky stuff in the prologue, hoping for an improvement over Begins.

remember, the trailers are showing scenes that (I'M ASSUMING) that take place in the same time frame of the movie itself.

I mean, the trailers are only revealing maybe 3 scenes and that's it, with snips of other action scenes. I'm sure there's tons of night scenes for sure.

I mean, they haven't even revealed anything about the final action scene (i don't know about the truck flipping and where that takes place)

Since theres a "concern thread" I thought I'd make something somewhat similar but this is straight and to the point. What do you like and dislike about the movie so far?

Heres my dislikes:

Atmosphere

Less serious tone

Dialouge (from what I've heard)

Not as dark as BB

l

Wait...what? How did you get that it wasn't as dark as BB? It seems just as dark if not more then BB did from the trailers.

Begins gets automatic "dark" points just by virtue of being an origin movie and thus, seeing his parents murdered and the immediate results of it.
