It’s not fooling anyoneMovie magic. It's what made Tom Cruise and RDJ look taller than they are.

That's literally what it does. Can you tell from this shot that RDJ is actually five inches shorter than Chris Evans in real life? It’s not fooling anyone
God help them if Danny DeVito isn't Phil.
You can't expect grifters to remember that. They can't really negotiate or circle anyone right now. The actors are on strike.
It matters because apart from DeVito being one of those rare celebrities that everyone likes that would appeal to audiences for this, he's expressed interest in playing the part again. It would be a lot more fun to see him in it regardless if the movie is bad or not.Does it really matter? It's not like these live-action remakes are good or something of exceptional quality.
These movies are little more than pale imitations of the animated versions and their quality is usually terrible.
At the very least, Taron Egerton can sing.
Another reason I don't get this, while I like the Hercules movie, the original was not a big hit to begin with.
It's true. But it's also worth noting that out of all the Hercules adaptations, the Disney movie is easily the most popular. Even though it was never a Beauty and the Beast or Lion King type of hit back in the day, it's become something of a cult classic among millennials who grew up with it. Love it or hate it, this one was always a no-brainer for Disney to give the live action treatment. And none of the recent live action Hercules movies have been hits either.
Hercules (or Heracles) is basically the Greek mythology version of Dracula or a Robin Hood. Whenever movie studios are bereft or new ideas, they eventually come back around to making a Herc movie that no one was asking for.
With the exception of newer movies like Frozen and Wreck-It Ralph, Disney pretty much beat that horse to death with the onslaught of direct to video sequels 20-25 years ago just like they're beating the live action remake horse to death these days. On that note, it's interesting that while Hercules got a spinoff prequel series, it never got a DTV sequel considering how much source material they had to pull from. Why not make actual theatrical sequels to these films instead?

I forgot about that one. If that hasn't been cancelled already, I'm almost certain it will be.The live-action remake onslaught I'd say has been beaten well and truly to death at this point, and the returns are diminishing. Like they are actually planning more "live-action" Lion King films, including the Scar prequel, an Aladdin sequel, and an Aladdin Prince Anders sequel. The throwaway character Jasmine rejects in the film.

Fun fact The Lion King 2 was meant to be such a sequel. Why not make actual theatrical sequels to these films instead?
Interesting. I had heard that Toy Story 2 was originally planned to go direct to video but I never knew that it was the other way around for Lion King 2. It probably would have done well since it's one of the better DTV movies. A theatrical movie with polished animation, better songs and 100% less Andy Dick could have been a hit for them but I'm sure they made bank on video sales anyway.Fun fact The Lion King 2 was meant to be such a sequel.
The Sherlock movies at least still felt like Guy Ritchie movies, albeit a little more Hollywood-ed up. Even though I enjoyed it, Aladdin was definitely just a paycheck movie for him, and if I was watching that with no idea who directed it I'd never guess it was him. I'm sure his Hercules would have been the same thing.Probably for the best. I feel like Ritchie is best when he’s doing his own thing (as long as he doesn’t get too far up his own *** like in Revolver) but when he does these big mainstream movies, he kinda sucks. I know Aladdin and the Sherlock Holmes movies made money but I felt like he was out of his element.
