The Amazing Spider-Man Lizard's New Look: Verdict?--POLL

What did you think of his appearance?

  • PERFECT! It's the character come to life!

  • THAT'S the Lizard?! Mini-godzilla without the coat?

  • Can't tell yet. He wasn't in the trailer enough.

  • Where's Venom?!

  • It seems ok.

Which TSSM played perfectly, imo. Spidey tried to get him into cold water while trying to make Lizard take the cure. I really wish we could see that in the film, although it seems the only time Spidey tries to give him the cure is at Oscorp Tower.

Actually, a set photo a while back confirmed that there will be a scene at a zoo, so it could happen.

There was that set photo from the zoo I remember seeing a while back...oh, Spideyfan866 posted that too. But yeah, I would love to see that scene from TSSM done over for the movie. Seriosuly, so much about TSSM was just damn perfect.

Honestly, the only thing I gripe about with Lizard is his size and muscle. When I think Lizard, the first thing that pops into my head isn't a Hulkish sized monster with a body-builder physique. I think a somewhat muscular beast that is big but small enough to to fast deadly.

Yeah, I'm not too keen on the lizard being so huge. Muscle wise, I'm fine with, but the overall size of him is a little too much for me. To me, it seems like a "lazy" way of making the character threatening.

"Johnson! How can we make the lizard scary and more of a threat than other Spider-Man film baddies?"

"Um...giving him good motivation with a terrifying plan, sir?"

"Nonsense, Johnson! Lets just make him really really big!"

I personally like the Lizard being larger. He's always been bigger as the Lizard. Marvel Wiki has him at 6'8 and around 550 pounds. Granted, this Lizard looks to be closer to 8 or 9 feet, but it's not too out there.

The Lizard here is far larger than 8 or 9 feet. I'm not saying that the Lizard shouldn't be "big", just that I think he's TOO big here.

It's not gonna ruin the movie for me or anything, it's just another thing that I'm "meh" about in terms of the lizard in this flick. Still looking forward to the film though.

I wouldn't say that. He looks right around 9 feet in the trailers.

Rhys Ifans confirmed that the Lizard was 9ft tall.

That's what I thought. He didn't look any bigger then that in the trailer. I think people underestimate how incredibly massive a person would look if they were 10ft or taller.

And you also have to look at this....reptiles are cold-blooded, aren't they? Why WOULD he keep any clothing on?
Actually being coldblooded is an argument why he would have clothes on. Warmblooded animals have thermo regulation and we still use clothing to keep warm. A coldblooded man-lizard would need it even moreBut I'm not going to use this logic for the argument of Lizard having clothes. Its a comic book movie, clearly the rules of biology can be bent a little bit...okay, a lot bit :o

I personally think Lizard should have clothes because it is a lot more terrifying. It shows that stark contrast between Connors human form and this monstrous beast he has become. Psychologically, it helps keeps connors in the audience's mind. Aesthetically, it adds to his horrific look. Here we have a scientist trying to help humanity with his research only to have things go completely awry. There is something really terrifying yet tragic about that and it really hits you in the face when you see this beast running in Connor's tattered lab coat with little remnants of what was once Dr.Connors. Also a naked monster is very generic because most movie monsters are...well...mindless. The thing that makes Lizard a great villain is that he isn't. Somewhere in there is still the genius mind of Dr.Connors, having a that tattered lab coat automatically distinguishes him from being just another movie monster.

I think Rhys Ifans will be as the lizard. However Rhys can be a very angry person from what I've heard

Thanks for the info. Though it doesn't change anything for me - the lizard is too massive for my tastes.

Oh no, I completely understand the complaint.

I think he'll be more of a physical threat to Spider-Man with this size, personally.

I'm thinking that's what they were looking for when determing what size to make him...how much of a threat can he be to Spidey. A larger Lizard seems as though it would equal a larger threat.

That's my "problem" (for lack of a less dramatic word). I think hulking the lizard out like that was/is a cop out. I'd like to think there are far more dramatic and creative ways to make the lizard a supremely threatening villain than to simply make him so outrageously massive. Looking at the shot of the lizard and spidey crashing into the water...the size difference looks comical, not threatening. It's just another instance where I feel like they should have spent more time conceptualizing the lizard.

But, it's all moot; we won't know exactly how good the lizard will/won't be until the movie arrives, so while I have my thoughts on the matter at present, I'm waiting to actually come to a conclusion.

Well that's the thing really...we won't be able to make a solid conclusion until the movie arrives. I like the design of the Lizard and for all we know he may move with incredible agility and dexterity. So, on top of that he also has a larger size and immense strength and this makes for a very dangerous foe for our newly formed Spidey.

I wouldn't say the size they chose for the Lizard is a 'cop out' by any means. You can say what you will but I'd be willing to bet that a 9 ft Lizard coming after you and you'd be peeing yourself with fear. It certainly doesn't look comical to me, especially since that little snipet of film showing them crashing into the water is so short.

And how do you know how long they spent conceptualizing the deisgn for the Lizard?? Were you there during those meetings??

Well, it works for me. Yeah, I was expecting the snout and all, but it looks more like a human lizard than a lizard with a white coat.

NEVERMIND, my friend went into my hype account and said that. Sorry.

You could have saved it by saying "I meant I think Rhys Ifans will be good as the Lizard."

I'm alright with humanoid Lizard. Didn't he look more human in his earlier apppearances anyways? I figure it would be a homage to that if anything.

Yes. He was pretty much a human with scales and a tail in his first appearance.
