Wow. Who knew it would open that big. It would have been bigger if this was an actual X-Men film and not another Wolverine movie. But good for Fox.

I disagree. After Apocalypse, the general public didn't want an ensemble X-Men film... especially less thana year after Apocalypse. A Logan and Professor X centered swan song is exactly what was needed.

Now, don't get me wrong, I think an R rated ensemble X-Men film in few years could do very well. Just not so soon after Apocalypse.

Who said about a R rated X-Men team movie. And no, a X-Men with the classic movie roster could sell as many tickets as Logan. Don't tell me, Cyclops, Storm, Rogue, Phoenix, Iceman, Colossus would sway people to skip this and would rather watch it if it's just Logan & Xavier.

With what will surely be very good word of mouth and the overwhelmlingly positive reviews, I'll predict an opening weekend domestic haul of $85-90m.

I thought you did when you said "It would have been bigger if this was an actual X-Men film..."

You don't need an R-rated X-Men movie

Actually, GuestStar, the general public would disagree. A recent poll showed that 86% would like to see an R-rated X-Men team movie.

Possibly and only because itd be pg13 with 3d. But people are clearly bored with regular X films.

Deadpool out grossed all other X movies. Logan will do well.

Deadpool outgrossed because of the novelty and second because it was an out and out better film.

I don't think Logan is gonna out-gross either Deadpool or DoFP but it will make bang loads and turn a nice profit for Fox.

I chalk up Deadpool's huge Box Office returns to an outstanding and unique marketing campaign as well (in addition to being a good movie).

I personally thought Logan was much better as I'm not a big fan of the fourth-wall breaking style, but got to admit Deadpool was very, very entertaining.

Fox is killing it at the moment. Their movie budgets are reasonable and also giving directors much more control than your average tentpole and reaping the rewards.

Oh you mean the ones that were in the past setting? Well that's a given to me.

A pg13 X-Men film could attract a big audience if the only the actors and the material in the film transcend to the masses. Unfortunately Apocalypse couldn't even outgross X1 in America.

With Logan being set in 2029 all X-Men movies will technically be in the past. There is no difference between OT and First Class anymore. Other than people having a preference one way or the other. Some old TVs aside, the fact that Apocalypse was set in the 80s was barely noticable as far as the level of technology goes. That'll probably be the case even more in Supernova (and beyond).

Yes, though that X-Men film could be made with any group of actors. Being OT, First Class or a completely new cast.

After First Class &Apocalypse box office performed, I seriously doubt that. Maybe in a reboot or a Cross over with Deadpool.

That's not official that all films would set before 2029.

And once again, I don't want an Ot cast film set before Logan unless its relevant to a post 2029 setting film.

logan is poised to do 80-85 million domesticly this weekend.it has already in china outgrossed the wolverine.

Logan is set in 2029 and DOFP is set in both 1973 and 2023.the claim X_Men has to be set in present has been blown out of the water.

so far outside of deadpool the draw to GA domesticly has been original cast.

after Logan
where both xavier and wolverine die
the flagship X-Men will be the apocalypse cast and whichever of the FC big 4 they are able to bring back.It might be just Mcavoy & APocalypse cast or
Mcavoy,Hoult, and Apocalypse cast.we will find out later this year:woot:

How exciting.:o

If Logan really attracts so many audience because its the swan song of Stewart/Hugh for these X-Men movies. And I just fear how the audience would react when its just the prequel cast from now on! They can't tease Wolverine's claws anymore for Supernova!

To be fair First Class preformed badly because of how badly the OT cast ended things in X3 and Origins as well. Apocalypse was a generic movie in a very crowded year. Though if Supernova also preforms badly with a good critic score then I will absolutely agree with you. Don't really want a cross-over with Deadpool though.

I suppose not. I think a post-2029 movie would be possible, but probably not an X-Men movie imho. Trying to build a franchise on two version of the same team isn't going to work. It could be a very different movie though and a bigger team of Mutants hiding in the dark world could be interesting. Just as long as they don't use any of the characters who show up in the past.

Yeah we are on the same page as far as this goes. :)

Kelsey Grammer, Shawn Ashmore, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Aaron Stanford probably aren't any more of a draw than the First Class cast though. Heck DOFP did very well without Famke Janssen and James Marsden. The main problem I think is that the First Class trilogy hasn't created it's own bankable character(s) like Wolverine. Eric, Charles and Mystique aren't really characters you can make your movie rely on. Which is why they really should build up their young team the best they can.

we will find out later this year:woot:
That we will. :)

Well, ignoring one user's consistent movement of goal posts to prove that spinoffs/prequels don't make money...

Logan seems to have debuted just below Apocalypse in China. Without a Warcraft like bomb, should do quite well. I think it is safe to crack $500 million.

DOFP benefeted from having the entire original cast back.remember while apart from X-Men they may not be much of a draw they are when they return to franchise.both first class and apocalypse when you adjust for inflation perform similar domesticly.only DOFP approach what original trilogy did.when you adjust for inflation X_Men made more than DOFP and both X2 and last stand perform closer to deadpool.Original cast appeal got audences in seats for last stand.

If fox were smart they and the producers would do trilolgy with centered on Cyclops and jean.go into outer space in film 1.film 2 deal with earth bound threat and then tackle dark phoenix in film 3.regardless soon enough we will find out what to expect from next flagship X-Men film.exciting times.

also it will be intresting to see what they do with X-23.and we know they will do something with her.eather solo film or include her in X-force or both.

Of course that was a great gimmick. DOFP felt like an event movie, the type of movie that you just couldn't miss. Another OT movie probably wouldn't have done a lot better than First Class or Apocalypse though.

Yes, but I do believe that if TLS and Origins were better movies then there would've been more of an interest in First Class as well. Apocalypse just wasn't the movie it should've been, regardless of the cast. It also wasn't marketed very well, and had too much competition.

That sounds like a fairly good plan to me. :)

Curious about that as well. :)

Logan has already proven him wrong.he keep saying over and over apocalypse has killed intrest in X-Men:whatever: with this opening it likely outgrosses both
first class and apocalypse.

It is doing well In China.Logan is a hit.and since fox was able to make it for 97 million due to hugh jackman taking a paycut they will benefit from it.

According to Exhibitor Relations, the estimated OW is 85.3 million.
