Logan LOGAN - Early Reactions and Reviews Thread

Wow for only 26 reviews on rotten it's 100%. Obviously with more it'll even out a bit but that's a fantastic start.

God, too much hype, if i don't love the movie, i willl be upset :/.

io9 - Logan Is Beautiful, Sophisticated, and Still a Kick-Ass Superhero Film

They also call it the best Wolverine solo movie, which isn't a really high bar. :o

His x-men movie reviews are bizarre. He gave x-men apocalypse an A- and the original x-men movie an A.

I disagree with him there.

However, he and Jahns both pointed out the 2nd act kind of meanders. Thats what kept it from getting an A. He said the 1st and 3rd acts are perfect.

As long as this isn't a Force Awakens situation where they talk about a solid movie likes its great because the prequels (last few before it) were awful. :o

Yeah James Mangold basically made a modern day Western/Unforgiven/Clint Eastwood type of movie. Hugh Jackman definitely channeling Clint Eastwood. Liked it from that perspective.

As for the future stuff, I don't think you can take it too seriously. Why? Because for these movies they will pick and choose whatever they want. They will ignore whatever they want in order to serve their story at hand. What happens here really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things since they are already mucking with time travel.

It will be interesting to see how I will take the film, considering I'm not a fan of any of the previous X-Men installments, outside Deadpool.

I think it's safe to say it will be fresh on RT.now what ranking it will get remains to be seen.

Collider's positive
9.4
9
9.5
I didn't hear John's rating, but he did call it a masterpiece.

Tim Grierson from Screen International (50/100 on metacritic). Stephanie Zacharek from time wrote an even more negative review with (40/50), but that one isn't on Rotten Tomatoes yet.
Not really a fan of this critic. So this negative rating isn't a big deal to me.

This is TDK territory now. This might be the first genuine challenger to Nolan's movie.

I liked the movie a lot, but I felt it was not close to territory of The Dark Knight. It's shot with a lot more realism closer to some ways someone like Nolan might shoot his film. Some parts of it felt almost like an indie drama, like with how it opens.

I dunno, I thought it was really good, but I feel like it's getting overhyped. IMHO it had flaws.

TDK territory would be 80+ on Metactric. It hasn't gotten that kind of love. Then again its still early and that one critic, who I'm not really a fan of, did mess of its rating so far.

8.5 is still very good. There are/were people who gave The Dark Knight an 8.5 and others who felt it was a 9.5 and 10.

This could be a Winter Soldier situation where the majority of fans love it even more than its RT score. Even though the RT is great as well.

Winter Soldier was the last movie I heard get TDK type hype.

It's good to hear the movie's being received well.

every movie has flaws lol even TDK

Another rave review. Love the shade thrown at BvS.

Indeed, Logan feels genuinely grim without employing grimness for grimness’s sake. Like somber comics masterpieces Watchmen and Kingdom Come, the movie knows that maturity and darkness are two very different things. A superhero story works when it’s trying to say something about power and responsibility, and gloom is only effective if it serves that purpose. Writer-director James Mangold gets that, and Logan is a passionate allegory about using our intellectual and physical abilities not just to survive and find personal fulfillment — we have to make sure others can, too.
