LOL, might as well get used to that feeling if you intend to soldier on. Which you should. :sly:

I'm actually considering to not. I have enough stuff to be be worried about as is :funny:

It just weighs down on you, this show. I have a feeling all the episodes will have a downer ending. Actually reminds me of Ex Machina.

Well, you're not wrong. But I'd say there are two episodes in S3 that don't necessarily have "downer" endings. "Nosedive" and "San Junipero." I mean it's all relative as they aren't exactly uppers, either, but by this show's standards, they're downright chipper, lol. They're also two of the best eps of the series and worth checking out, imo. The nice thing about the anthology format is that you don't really have to watch any specific order, so you can pick and choose the which episodes to watch.

So I'll just say if you no longer have the stomach for the brutal punch-in-the-gut stuff, avoid "White Bear," "White Christmas," and "Shut Up and Dance" like the plague. They're amazing, but oof. Brutal. "Be Right Back" is the best though, and you should totally tough it out for that one. :cwink:

Black Mirror E2 was even more brutal and gut wrenching. ****.

Haven't gotten past that one yet; saw the first 2 episodes with the missus and I loved'em, but they left me with this very heavy feeling inside, maybe because of how relevant and "close to home" that whole "futuristic vision" feels; I wanna pick it up again, but it's one of those things that I need to be in the right mood for.

The missus doesn't want to continue with it.

Also guys, have any of you seen Into the Badlands or Orphan Black?? I started ItB last night but it was very late and fell sleep half way through the first episode, but it has good reviews (yeah yeah, I know); I also heard good things about Orphan Black...

You know what's strange to me... I would much rather have these "downer" types of entertainment given how much "uplift/fun" is given so much primacy when it comes to our entertainment consumption here in the West, but especially America.

I mean I looked at a film like the ARRIVAL and it's a sci fi film with weighty issues, so I wasn't expecting a laugh riot. Still, on first viewing while I really, really enjoyed the film, it's themes and ideas, I could see someone seeing it and thinking it was too dry. But contemplating it more I respected that the creators, and this is probably mostly Denis Villeneuve (though he would also need the backing of the studio in some ways true), didn't feel the need to have the characters or situations leavened in the usual manner with humor or quippy dialog. Which is the SOP in lots of mainstream offerings these days. The facts are that far, far, FAR more entertainment put out now is very light in so many aspects. I kinda really appreciate when stuff is not trying to please the crowds, assure the audience ect. That doesn't make risky, off putting, complicated or the like styled movies automatically superior or anything as they still can and do fall prey to every other kind of failing a film can have. But in a world filled with mostly milk chocolate I am a bit thankful for the occasional dark chocolate with raisins. :o

Nevermind! She was not a director, but a writer/actress (not really known from what i can tell). I finally remembered her name and looked her up. When i told her she had the model look, she gave me a pissed look. lol But after looking her up, she HAS done modeling gigs, wtf. I was right. Yeah, yeah, also sexist on my part...I know.

Yeah, it's funny; it's like the whole "happy ending/fun vibe" is a USA necessity; in Europe is not really something people care about or expect from storytelling.

And that german "model"....Jesus....

I don't know what reviews you've been reading but Into the Badlands has to be AMC's worst-reviewed show to date. It's got a 54 on Metacritic. I tried to watch it...didn't get much further than you.

I love Orphan Black. It gets off to an iffy start (I think the pilot may be the weakest episode of the series) but by the time you're 3 or 4 episodes in and the main premise actually presents itself (yes, it takes that long), it really takes off. It hits a bit of a rough patch in the middle, but then season 4 was arguably its best season to date, and the final season's off to a strong start. Definitely worth the trip, imo. Honestly, it would be worth it for Tatiana Maslany's acting tour-de-force alone.

I only saw it's IMDB score, and sometimes I google "best action tv series" and it pops up there, so yeah, I don't know, but I've heard great things about Orphan Black so I think I'll give it a try.

I'm just kinda looking for a show with kickass hand to hand fighting sequences...BvS' warehouse scene ruined me for everything.... :o

Ah, well for the record Orphan Black won't fill your craving there. It's not really an "action" show. More of a sci-fi/conspiracy thriller. And honestly, I think Into the Badlands gets on those lists because it's one of the ONLY actual martial-arts based shows on any notable network. Might want to look into Banshee. That had some good action.

Agree with flick her Polux. ORPHAN is worth it just to see Maslany do her thing. It's a great showcase for her versatility. I just wish someone would cast her in something with a wider audience in the States. She's still a bit niche to most I think.

BADLANDS... It is what it is. I don't think anybody was looking for BREAKING BAD/GAME OF THRONES level stuff with it. I couldn't keep up in the first season not cuz it was terrible, but neither was it appointment TV. My mom says Nick Frost joined the cast, so with him and Marton Csokas there's at least two solid actors in the cast capable of reaching some heights. For myself what I remember from season one was that the protagonist was surrounded by some decent to good performers, the world was interesting but the younger lead sucks the life out of the proceedings and unfortunately the younger lead's story is like the main arc of the series.

Into the Badlands is good wuxia fun with a good cast. It's not AAA television, but I always enjoy it. The young lead character has emotionally grown this past season which has helped.

On my mind...

The boneless pizza prank call is one of the most stupid and funny things Ive heard for a long time. Its so stupid, yet hilarious.

"He is about as funny as the workings of an air filter system..."

I absolutely agree, Arrival was in my top 3 last year. But sometimes it goes a bit far...like say Neon Demon. Just my personal preference. I still love it, but its not for all moods.

Yeah, I know absolutely nothing about the plot of Orphan Black, but someone told me a while ago that the lead actress plays a bunch of different characters and she kills it, so that should be reason enough to check it out; with Badlands, again, I only saw half of the first episode, and it just started with the wrong foot for me; if you gonna start with the classic "introducing our badass hero right after vaguely establishing the setting to let'im do his thing", then HE becomes you're intro into the show, he's supposed to be the hook, and I found him from the get go so incredibly un-engaging, right away I got the feel of "yeah, I don't care about this guy" and the following fight scene had some great moves, and some really cheesy ones (and the camera work to go with it) and really over the top, so yeah...I dunno.

I heard good things about Banshee too, another show I have no idea what it is about :woot:

I agree. Comedy in Michale Bay movies is next level cringe. I honestly believe if he cut all of that out, his movies would look a lot more tolerable.

What's weird is Bad Boys and the first Transformers have a great balance of action and humour. Yet in Bad Boys II and the Transformers sequels that I've actually bothered to watch the balance is completely lost.

Agreed. I'd say Transformers and The Island are two movies where Bay really restrains himself from using ridiculous unfunny jokes and gags. I still love the first Transformers.

Bay had some good salty humor in his early work. But what he's all about is kinda also in those early works. For me... The Rock is his masterpiece. It showed that he had the grasp of what a quality popcorn flick is all about... But you can see the cracks already. I mean, if the Rock were to be made today I assure you all that the stereotyped hair dresser that Anthony Clark played would be in the film about 50% more and be even 50% more stereotypical.

I wasn't a fan of the Island but I don't think it was a bad movie and totally agree with your comment.

Agreed on the first Transformers, I often feel people just think of the sequels with Transformers and forget what a great summer blockbuster the first one was.
