Luke is an ex-police officer in this?
This is a significant departure from the comics portrayals for sure. I wonder how this will inform the origin.

It isn't. He's had multiple retellings of his origin, and that plot point was in at least one of them.

They may have been one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. I'm incredibly excited (despite not having high hopes initially).

I've been rewatching Jessica Jones one episode a day and I have found that I enjoy that show lot more that way compared to binging during a weekend.

Would you recommend binging Luke Cage or more restrained viewing?
I'm all about binging and doing it all at once. Watch it however you see fit.

Yeah that's why I love Netflix because you can watch it however you want.

So not only is Mahaershala Ali going to look like an awesome villain, he may also get an Oscar Nomination for Moonlight......

Damn, what a year he's having.

Can you post the link to the review? Your link goes to the homepage and there's no review on the site (was it taken down?)

But it was sort of implied that him and his wife Reva were some sort of security guards in Jessica Jones. I wouldn't want him to be a former police officer, it would change too much about his story and his relationship with the police like Albert Rackham. Seems to Rick Ross-y to me.

I don't recall any retelling of Luke's origin featuring him as a cop. His dad yeah, but never him.

At 1:34, Luke's standing up and talking to Misty who's on the ground against the wall, and when the camera does an up-close, you can see blood on her cheek. I wonder if she'll lose her arm this season....

There is an origin backstory in which Cage did join the NYPD as adult after turning his back on low level crime as a teenager. I can't recall which issue showed it.

Cage being a former cop isn't usually depicted as being a part of Cage standard origin though.

Cage being a former cop would not change his relationship with Rackham. Rackham is a sadistic bullying racist.

It's good to be the king.

Yep really pumped for this show!

Interested in the twist at the end of episode 7!

About time, I've always liked him in House of Cards.

Ok, the latest trailer is definitely my favorite. Love it!

And he's also in a movie called Hidden Figures, which is getting a lot of buzz as well. What a year, indeed.

I read a quote from the showrunner that makes me think she'll have one less limb by the end of the season, though I don't think that's what we're seeing in the scene you're referring to. Judging from a few other glimpses in the trailer, that looks to be a part of a sequence where Luke whisks Misty away from a shootout (you can see him carrying someone right after their exchange and looks likes like it could be Misty to me). Perhaps Misty is injured/shot, hence the blood on her cheek.

At the 1:20 mark in the new trailer you see him punch Diamondback.

The show creators have an official Spotify playlist for Luke Cage and it's pretty rad. Can't wait for this show. Cannot wait.

This is my #1 most anticipated show of the new TV season hands down.

Mahershala Ali and Alfre Woodared talk about using the Mariah Dillard's comic book moniker "Black Mariah" on the show:

IGN: Ali, the first time we hear “Black Mariah” said as a name, you say it, and it’s almost like something from the past you can pull out and say in a way to get her. Did you guys think about what that history would have been, growing up together as cousins?

Ali: It’s not something we necessarily talked about, but that moment we talked about. And that gets into some stuff that is really personal to black culture. I mean, you get into skin tone, when you get to insulting. And we kind of had to make that moment our own, and what that meant to us, and why that was an insult, why she would get upset about that. But again, that gets us back into - with family, that’s what it is. Otherwise, if we weren’t related, she would be a politician that I, for some reason, had a relationship with, when I ran this club, and we both have an agenda, and we’re trying to achieve that end. But because we’re family, and you can’t divorce family, it complicates that relationship. And she has to deal with me, as I have to tolerate her, in a certain way. And I think I’m probably more of a problem for her than she is for me, in all honesty, because she is trying to legitimize the family, kind of for her sake, as well, because you can’t have this shady cousin running around there. Like, she may have, and I don’t know, we haven’t talked about this, but the city council could really be a stepping-stone to mayor or something for her. So this needs to get worked out.

Woodard: But also, this was something that we did have to work out because of the character in the original Luke Cage [comics] in ’72. There was a Black Mariah, who was very different from what we’re doing. Some of our characters, like Misty, like Luke, some of our characters and others come straight out of the comic. Others are inspired by them. But Cheo [Coker] wanted to give recognition and homage to Black Mariah, but I started saying, “Well, it depends on who calls me Black Mariah.” And he says, “I want you to go after him!” And that’s when we see, “Oh Lord, she’s not a mild mannered city councilwoman.” And it helped that they’re cousins, and it helped that I wasn’t dark skinned, so you knew it was about something else, so what else? So we talked about those things that would set it off, and it was, it is old schoolyard poop between cousins.

As is becoming my Marvel/Netflix show tradition, I got Friday off from work to binge this. Hyped! :D

I'm visiting friends in Norway and forgot about the time/day difference. I woke up so freaking excited and now just.... Arg why is today a thing? Can I skip it for tomorrow
