Mad Max: Fury Road - Part 2

He is too indie for the Oscars.

There is something to this, definitely. Hardy hardly ever does interviews and hates press stuff, and when he does do an interview, he swears like a sailor, rambles in a disconnected stream of consciousness about anything and everything that pops into his head, and makes it really obvious he's not concerned about saying the "proper" things or having a polished image like a lot of actors do. He doesn't seem the type to play the game just to get more famous, and might not even want to be more famous.

So basically, the anti-Eddie Redmayne. :funny:

Hardy doesn't seem like one of those guys to get on board the campaign awards circuit during the awards season.

Hardy doesn't do many talk shows and you can tell he isn't much into giving interviews.

Eddie Redmayne's Oscar thirst was apparent to everyone.

Hardy on doing red carpet interviews

It’s difficult to feel comfortable attending to microphones on red carpets. No I’m not good at giving quick answers to stupid questions, and that is precisely what they want. I try to do it and immediately think, ‘What the hell did I just say? I feel like an idiot.

And another

“To see your face on the side of a bus is a nuisance, really. The problem comes when you can’t walk down the street without you looking, because I like being the one who observes others and not the other way around. Fame doesn’t interest me at all. If my interest was to be famous and make as much money as possible, then I would have done things differently. Do not misunderstand me, part of me wants to win an Oscar and appear on the covers of magazines and all that nonsense, but the other could not care less. I’m not the right actor to please the audience and become a role model. If you dig inside me, you’ll find a lot of dirt.”

I have real hopes that Legend will get him more recognition. I mean, he's simultaneously playing two characters in the same movie and the same scenes.

But if a performance as tour de force as Bronson can be completely ignored by the Academy (which half the time nominates **** that isn't half as good), then I won't hold my breath.

True. How he wasn't nominated for Bronson OR Locke leaves me scratching my head.

But Johnny Depp can wear some makeup and do a silly voice, and Meryl Streep can literally just walk into a room and be nominated.

It took Depp 20 years in the business to get a nomination. They ignored him for years.

Warrior was a phenomenal performance from him too.

Yep. I put Warrior as one of his best roles. Bronson is my favorite from him though. Right up there among some of the best performances I've ever seen.

Guys, come on.

Star Trek: Nemesis was obviously his peak. :o

Nope.

Hardy will get momentum from Mad Max and Legend, and to a lesser extent Child 49 but will get nominated for The Revenant. I actually think he can win best supporting for that. His character is that good.

Oh, Tom. You poor thing. They totally made you look like a Power Rangers villain.

Child 44 tanked like the Titanic. And I'm under the impression The Revenant is Leo's show.

I know it tanked, but most reviews still spoke well of his performance, it is all about momentum. His body of work this year will be enough for a nom.

Hardy is the villain of The Revenant. He will get a supporting acting nom. The script I read is that good and so is his character. Also, the supporting category is far more forgiving when it comes to screen time and performance unlike the leads. Yes, this is the Leo show, but he will have a tougher time and more competition to win than Hardy in this category.

Finally been watching these. I tried to watch the original a couple of times and only made it ten/twenty minutes in each time... just very slow and kind of incomprehensible to me. But I watched it all the way through a week ago... Still not seeing the big deal outside of the car action. It got better as it went, but still.

However, saw MM2 for the first time last night and really enjoyed it. I totally get that ones rep. Great visual storytelling and a very scary world, and one that (for me) retroactively made the first a little better, just by virtue of seeing how far Max and the world fell.

Looking forward to the third next week.

I'm dying to see what he reviews are like for this. Hopefully charlize's character is as awesome as she sounds and doesn't get killed off or worse.

This looks like so much fun

It's mostly Road Warrior that has the rep, MM1 is notable for it's importance as an australian indie flick and it being Miller's debut, but all the tropes and series trademarks are mainly from the second film.

Heck...he only becomes "mad max" in the last 20 minutes or so, i can imagine the confusion on people's faces watching the first one and expecting something like the fury road trailer. :funny:

Haha yeah, seriously. Streep is an icon, but it really does seem like they feel obligated to nominate every year she does anything.

Every new tv spot I see is better then the last.
