Mad Max: Fury Road - Part 2

I've never seen a Mad Mad movie (Don't kill me) and haven't seen anything of this beyond the first trailer but it's got a really cool look to it so I think I'm gonna check this out

I've only seen the first two recently in preparation for Fury Road. I was hugely let down by the first one which I thought was (sorry for hyperbole) trash, I kinda see it as a trial run before the "real" Mad Max movie which is The Road Warrior. It just feels so low budget (because it is) and kinda all over the place.

Very much enjoyed The Road Warrior even though of course, seeing a Mad Max movie on a much bigger scale with today's technology, a huge budget is going to be much more spectacular.

MMBT is on Sunday night (they always play previous installments in a series on TV right before a new one comes out, so I knew I was safe to wait rather than seek them out). Once I watch that, I'm all up to date and prepped for Thursday.

Miller only directed the action sequences in Beyond Thunderdome, I read that yday and that kind of killed any interest I had in seeing it.

Wow, lol. Some of yall are crazy. The first Mad Max movie is far from trash. It was the origin story for Max Rockatansky and why he becomes the man known as Mad Max. Sure the movie is OLD and low budget, but that's part of the charm of it in my opinion. When I watch Road Warrior (which I agree is the better movie and the best out of the original trilogy) I still see the man that lost his family and the struggles he's been through from the first film.

Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but I will have to strongly disagree in this case. Love Mad Max almost as much as The Road Warrior, Beyond the Tunderdome is the weak link in my opinion, and by far the worst in the original trilogy.

I said this a few weeks ago. It did not go well, but I agree. Not exactly lame, but The Road Warrior is what matter.

First 2 are great. Thunderdome is the mixed bag but even though it holds it's punches compared to the first 2 (seriously the dome battles for example should've been way more brutal considering Mad Max and The Road Warrior set the precedent) it's still bolder and in terms of action superior to most of what came out at that time.

It's probably been about 2 years since I last sat down with all 3 but those movies have been pretty much tattooed on my brain since childhood so I don't need a "refresher" I could just save those hours to watch Fury Road more than once

I had hazy memories of all three, so I just sat down and watched Road Warrior on Amazon this morning.

You can tell it's low-budget, and elements of it are definitely hokey and dated, but I found myself drawn in.

Some of the supporting acting is pretty bad (the guy who plays Wez), but Gibson is effortlessly cool and charismatic without saying anything for long stretches at a time.

I was struck by how thick the S&M undertones are. The rape scene, the leather bondage and mask wear everyone has on, Lord Humongous having Wez on a chain like a dog, Wez and the androgynous blond boy pretty obviously being a gay couple.

The climactic car chase was cool, of course, but I was mildly disappointed, having heard how it's so epic. I dunno, a lot of it seemed like everyone was driving too orderly and not like they were actually trying to kill each other. Maybe the Fury Road trailers have me spoiled.

I liked catching little Easter eggs in Fury Road even from the trailers, like the music box, how much the big rig looks like Furiosa's, the Interceptor crash, the way the prisoners are strapped to the cars the way Max is in FW, etc.

Sundance, you need to see The Road Warrior. It is class cinema.

Hard to tell.

He had a dog collar and chain which might of just been the whole post-apocalypse bondage look they were going for or he may of been their slave.

The Murderers super rapey as seen by the early wordless attack scene in the film.

I'm amazed at the people saying they didn't like them or at least the first Mad Max because it was not a quality film. Umm... It was not supposed to be, nor was it promoted to be. It is an old Post Apocalyptic series following the adventures of a man named Max. It had an extremely low budget and it was filmed in the 70's. When watching any Mad Max film an Inception or Interstellar quality is not to be expected lol.

You have to understand the history of how and when the first movie was made.

The first Mad Max was a ultra low budget seventies Australian B-movie by a first time director and didn't get a proper release from its U.S distributor. They stole stuff to use as props the budget was so low. The film did well internationally and found developed a cult following on late night television in the U.S

Mad Max 2: Road Warrior had a bigger budget which allowed George Miller to be more ambitious. This film was distributed by Warner Bros which helped it be commercially and critically successful.
