Still wish Mel would have had a cameo in this film.

I love that Mel seems so supportive of Miller,Hardy and the film. He didn't have to show up at the premiere but he did and was all friendly and laughs

Mad Max is kind of a grimy 70s revenge picture, ala Death Wish, with a touch of A Clockwork Orange, and tricked out vehicles.

The Road Warrior is kind of a western, in the tradition of Stagecoach, Shane, and The Man With No Name, that fully embraces the post-apocalyptic landscape, goes nuts, and delivers some of the greatest action scenes of the 80s. The first 10 minutes alone sells the whole thing.

They're related, but they're totally different in tone and style. Except for their reliance on practical vehicle stunts.

Good description.

The first one is lame, IMO.

I hated the first one.

I didn't find Mad Max to be a quality film either which is why I still haven't viewed Road Warrior.

Road Warrior is such a significantly different film to Mad Max, no one should ever be dissuaded from it because they didn't like the first. I can't think of any other sequel that outclasses the original so much it feels like a completely different franchise.

- Yes, not a big fan of Mad Max but I really love The Road Warrior.

That poster is awesome. It reminds me of the Thunderdome poster. That was one beautiful poster.

Edgar Wright has seen this three times already. :woot:

Also, a cool clip for those of ya'll who had not seen it yet.

I don't like the Mad Max film either. It's been years since I've seen Thunderdome and I don't remember much of it. I'm not even sure if I've seen all of Road Warrior. If I have it was a long time ago too cause I don't remember any of it. But I want to watch it before seeing this one. The blu-ray is $8 at Wal-Mart at the moment so I might pick it up.

Looks awesome.

Been a fan of the series for 30 years since i saw the first 2 on video and part 3 in theaters at age 4.

The first 2 were r-rated adult oriented gritty sci-fi action picks with style and class, part 3 was a PG-13 family film, fun with nice performance by Tina Turner if a bit watered down compared to the first 2 even it's not as bad as AVP or Robocop 3 or mediocre as Terminator Salvation.

I'm glad George Miller is back as director and they got a nice writer for this, although Mel will be missed but Hardy should be a nice replacement. I'm also glad it's back to the R-rated formula as we already had one PG-13 MM movie and that was 30 years ago as it was enough, i mean nice to see them go back to the adult oriented gritty formula of the first 2 classics. I mean we had R-rated hits recently like Kingsman, Equalizer and American Sniper proving there is an audience for these kinds of action films.

I can't think of another movie in recent memory that had so many awesome posters.

Don't get me wrong Sawyer, I think Mad Max is a great film in it's own right (and being a fan of aussie indie cinema, it fits right up there) but I don't think its as immediately indicative of what the mad max franchise largely came to be known as.

Loving Hardy's voice in the trailers for this, makes him sound like a complete BA.

I watched Thunderdome yesterday for the fun of it. It was allright. Gotta re-watch Road Warrior and Mad Max later this week!

I'm about halfway through MMBT right now... geez, this is not good.

Embargo was moved up to Monday morning. We'll finally get official reviews around 10 AM EST tomorrow.

Needs to be reminded that Miller only directed the action sequences in Thunderdome.
