I think that would be more likely if he said it to another character rather than the viewers. We have had unreliable narrators before, but the way it was used sure seemed to be simply explaining who this guy is for the newcomers to the series.

Much like others here, until we hear something from Miller personally or something in a sequel that says otherwise, I'm going to treat him as the same character in the other three. In the absence of other evidence, the simplest solution is the best one, I say.

That's the first I've heard of that theory. I like it, improbable as it may be. Like Kahran, I'm treating Max like he's the same from the other movies.

An idea about the movie I find interesting is the speculation that this Max is the "Feral Kid" from ROAD WARRIOR grown up.

"The best version of 'Fury Road' was what we called a 'slash dupe': a cheap, black-and-white version of the movie for the composer. Something about it seemed more authentic and elemental. So I asked Eric Whipp, the ['Fury Road'] colorist, 'can I see some scenes in black and white with quite a bit of contrast?' They looked great. So I said to the guys at Warners, 'can we put a black-and-white version on the DVD?' There wasn't enough room. [It'll end up] on another version with commentary and other features," he told the Los Angeles Times.

In addition to doing the rounds for the Oscars next month, Miller is getting ready to figure out what his next movie will be, which he has indicated is inspired by "Tangerine," in terms of its scope and size.

"The fact that you can use your iPhone to say something you desperately want to say is wonderful. I loved ['Tangerine']. It didn't feel diminished by budget. The method of making it was perfectly matched with its subject. I've got two stories —one is a bit more technically complex than the other, [which] is contemporary. I don't think it'll be shot on an iPhone, but it won't be big, massive cameras," he told the Times.

"...one of them involves visual effects and so on,” he told The Daily Beast. “I’ve said it before, but my favorite quote from John Lennon is ‘life is what happens when you’re making other plans.’ I don’t know which one, and also I always have a [superstition] that if you talk about it before it’s real, you could jinx it. I’ve always had that feeling because I thought we’d get 'Mad Max' done 10 years ago! So I’m just grateful we got this film made at this time.”

The reason the movie had such a heavy blue/orange contrast in the first place was because it was the only substitute for the contrast seen in B&W films.

Even the prequel comics showed somewhat the things Max had been doing with flashbacks and etc. (not that I really think prequel comics are canon, look at the MOS with Supergirl for example, just saying.)

Yea, he's not the feral kid. Think of it like James Bond or myths telling how Hercules looked in each one. Long hair, short hair, dark hair, blonde hair, 6 ft, 7 ft., etc.

We KNOW what happened to Feral Kid. He became the leader of "the great Northern tribe".

Exactly! I agree with you 100% this film, Fury Road, still had the original Max
Rockatansky just as the previous films.
I find it humorous the lengths some people go to try to explain a recast. Lol.

I wonder that, it could just be he picked another interceptor along the way after the 3rd movie though. I think Miller just wanted people, to see The Interceptor again though, although it was a shame it didn't last longer.

For example, TV series Blu-rays are expensive here so I pick up the DVD's instead.

My favorite way to view the series is to think that all of them are just stories told by later generations, making all 4 films different canonical perspectives on the legend of Max.
