Mad Max: Fury Road - Part 6

I took it that Fury Road sort of was a reboot as he loses his original car again and lacks the physical scars and signs of aging he had in the trilogy.

The whole series has never concerned itself with continuity. One popular theory is that the 'real' Max was in the first film but each subsequent film is essentially an urban legend of that person. In theory the Max of film one might not even be the same person as depicted in film two. Almost a Robin hood type of character.

My favorite way to view the series is to think that all of them are just stories told by later generations, making all 4 films different canonical perspectives on the legend of Max.

I think the first was clearly about Max from his perspective. The sequels, I agree. They're tall tales about him and the continuity doesn't matter.

I believe Miller has said he sees them as sort of "campfire tales" about the guy, so details and continuity don't really come into it.

That said, in Fury Road, he DID still have his knee injury.

Yeah his knee was injured in The Road Warrior right? and he still had that brace in Fury Road.

Pretty sure he got shot in the knee in the first one didn't he? He has the brace from then on.

Yep, its towards the end of the first movie, Toecutters right hand guy shoots him in the knee then rides his bike over Max's arm, before Max blows him away. Max limps for the rest of the movie but has the brace in the sequel from the off.

GEORGE MILLER: Well it's very strange. I’m one of those people who likes wearing the same thing all the time. And believe it or not, this jacket I wore every day on the set of Fury Road. [LAUGHTER] And the day will come when my family will say, “Pease, please, Dad, no more.” And so I'll find something else to wear.

You change the underwear, I hope?

Yes, I do. [LAUGHS]

Yep. It was Bubba Zanetti who did it.

DGA Awards should be announced in a couple of hours.

Come on, Miller.

Still hoping this surprises everyone and gets Best Picture at the oscars and if I can't have that hopefully Miller takes home best Director.

Frankly, I'm just hoping for Miller to win a justly deserved Best Director Oscar.

A BD win for him and a BP nom for the movie. I can sleep soundly with that.

I would love for Miller to get the Best Director Oscar. That single win would make the whole show worth it for me. The icing on top would be DiCaprio finally getting an Oscar.

The Revenant is a well put together movie but I simply wasn't impressed with it the way I was with this. Awards don't matter and the films stand on their own but it is still disappointing that the DGA didn't recognize Miller.

Frankly, DiCaprio doesn't deserve the oscar for just constantly trying, seems like just taking from better actors. George Miller and Alejandro are the biggest competition for Best Director though, both of them achieved some amazing feats while making their films, i can see the award going either way.

Looks like Miller isn't winning the Oscar. Oh well, as I said, it is amazing that he was even nominated for such a film.

Just re-watching all of the MM movies now, I really can't decide which one is the best between RW and FR. Its such a tough choice.

I think he deserves it this year. His acting was top notch in that film. He's sweeping too so it will be the upset of a lifetime if he loses. The media firestorm that will ensue the next morning will be something to watch.

Leonardo DiCaprio has definitely deserved an Oscar in the past. For The Revenant, though? Meh. He wasn't bad by any stretch, but he wasn't that great either.

My favorite part of The Revenant was Tom Hardy, actually. HE was the best actor in that film.
