Apparently it only very narrowly lost their vote for Best Picture.

Getting the feeling this film is very much in play for the Oscars after those LA Critics nods.

Maybe for nominations but look at their past votes. For the major categories they are not at all predictive of winners.

I don't think that anybody in their right mind believes that a Mad Max film is winning big Oscars like director. A nomination would be a win. I'm still not holding my breath about it getting non tech noms.

That's my thinking as well. A win would be nice, but even a nomination seems like such a longshot that it would be a huge achievement.

I think the regular practice of nominating things that aren't even real parts of the conversation is kind of a silly practice. I mean nominations are honors in and of themselves but it is so goofy to see 5 actors or 5 directors nominated when its really down to one or 2.

Actress Joy Smithers, who played one of the Vuvalini, was on an Australian TV show and said she had read the script to the Mad Max sequel. She said they (the Vuvalini) were in it and Megan Gale's character The Valkyrie is a child in it. Joy said it's a prequel so hopefully she will get to be in it.

If Tom Hardy is supposed to come back, that doesn't make a lot of sense. Surely Hardy can't be much older than Gale.

Its somewhat implied that its been somehow 50 years or more since the time Max was a cop, basically that he would have to be the same age as the older vulvalini but I don't think it would do to call to attention to that weirdness.

Damn. Guy looks good for his age.

Yeah, don't see that prequel happening, especially when Max looked in his 30's in FR. If Mel Gibson had reprised the role then I could see hem going down this route, but he didn't.

IIRC on the tattoo that the Organic Mechanic put on his back, it said he was 33.

Fury Road received Golden Globe nominations for Best Picture (Drama) and Best Director.

I have to say Mad Max made it a lot farther than I expected for awards season.

I'm actually not as surprised as most. A good film will stay in people minds for a long time.
