are they planning on releasing the Diamond Edition of Sleeping Beauty??

have they already released that??

which reminds me, I really need to pick up Mermaid on Blu-Ray.

Yeah, it's coming in October. They released it but it's been out of print for a while now and they saw an opportunity to cash in with Maleficent. This is the cover art:

EDIT: Wait, the first release was a Platinum Edition rather than Diamond.

yeah, I just looked it up, too.

the Diamond Edition is coming out in Oct.

and it looks like Mermaid won't go into the vault until April 2015, so I have some time.

but it looks like Cinderella and Pan are going away next month. :(

I better get those 1st.

edit: ooh! and I see Aladdin's coming out Oct. 2015!!

Get the Sleeping Beauty Blu-ray. It was so stunning in how they cleaned up the footage. I swear to God it looked like a brand new modern movie. Freaks me out till this very day. I never had such a reaction since I saw Alien on Blu. So surreal.

oh, I'll get the Diamond Edition when it comes out in Oct.

hopefully, the Maleficent film will respark my interest in the story.

but, yeah, I really do need to watch the "old classics" again. I'm just so partial to the Renaissance films/princesses, because those are the ones I grew up with. and now the modern "Revival" films with the CGI princesses.

I just never really had any "connection" to Snow White or Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty.

In the most historical sense, they're great movies but also products of their time. I admire how Disney was able to make them with groundbreaking techniques. Plus, they're a part of Americana and cinema in general, films that changed the score of filmmaking forever.

Other than that, usually the storytelling is...basic.* But that's okay. It's forgivable because there was nothing else like those films.

*Usually the title characters along with the princes are fairly boring and wooden, while the side characters and villains pick up the slack.

since it's been AGES since I've seen the old classics and I don't really remember much about them, it will be very interesting to see how I feel about them when I watch them again.

it would almost be like watching them fresh, for the first time in forever.

that being said, I REALLY do need to go and catalog the Disney films I have on DVD/Blu-Ray.

so I'll know what I have and don't have.......lol

I find Snow White and Cinderella to be good but not great ones. Sleeping Beauty I really liked, though it suffers from similar problems. The animation in it is some of the best I've seen even over 50 years later.

In the original, wasn't Merryweather the one that mouthed off to Maleficient in the first place, setting the whole thing in motion?

I'll have to check SB out then, cuz I honestly remember pretty much nothing about it........lol.

as an aside, I noticed in the Olympics, Gracie Gold skated her free program to music from the Sleeping Beauty ballet.

looked it up, and the Sleeping Beauty ballet was composed by Tchaikovsky, who also did the Nutcracker and Swan Lake!!

Cinderella ballet was composed by Prokofiev, who also did Romeo and Juliet.

and speaking of Swan Lake, that's about a princess who's turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer. and there's also a handsome Prince.

Princess. Prince. Sorcerer.

hmmmmmmm.............Disney...........perhaps a future animated project??

Which is why it probably would have been a good idea to re-release Sleeping Beauty before the film comes out so people can refresh their memories rather than October.

Probably releasing in October so that folks will buy it with Maleficent as that is most likely when we will see it hit DVD/Blu-Ray as well.

Aladdin is the one Disney film that I would go see a 3d version of, just for the cave of wonders escape scene.

I believe that when I see it, the date has changed so many times I feel like its never coming.

really??

wonder why they keep changing the date on that one........

I think that Tarzan could make for a good 3D experience, what with all the tree-surfing, swinging, Baboon rampage, etc.
