Probably not, this isn't a prequel, it's a retelling where Maleficent is actually a misunderstood victim of circumstances, instead of wanting revenge for not being invited to a party

Maleficent was a great villain, but NOT because of her motivations. Her motivations were extremely weak, much like most early Disney villains. No, her popularity is due to her character design, the voice actress's awesome performance, and her badass powers. A reinterpretation that fleshes out her character more could be really interesting if done right.

Now that was a decent teaser. They set it up like it's almost a live action remake of Sleeping Beauty then the focus shifts.

I've thought this would be a good angle for this as well since Disney villains have been so popular.

In addition to their Cruella De Ville that was already announced, movies about Ursula, Jafar, Hook, or Dr. Facilier could definitely work as movies.

The only weak part of the trailer would have to be Elle Fanning. That accent....and I probably would've chosen another bit older actress for the role but I hope she proves me wrong.
