Man From U.N.C.L.E movie

Cruise already has his spy franchise, it would have been old hat for him anyways. MI5 is his one guaranteed big hit, he should make it a priority over other films.

Yep, plus he has the Jack Reacher sequel to make anyway.

Haha, well, Hiddleston did originally audition for Thor.

It's funny, I could definitely see Hiddleston playing a hero character rather than a villain, even though he's brilliant as Loki. He usually looks a lot more leading man-esque when he's not deathly pale and rockin' the long black hair.

I know Hiddleston originally auditioned for Thor, but Brannagh wisely saw that he'd make a much better Loki, and he was right.

After Hemsworth, I find it hard to imagine anyone else as Thor much less Hiddleston. Hiddleston is tall but Hemsworth is a mountain of a man. There are few men in Hollywood who are as tall and as muscular as Hemsworth and Thor needs that to be brought to life. Hiddleston wouldn't be able to cut it.

And they don't give a **** about historical accuracy or accuracy of any kind, just watch Sherlock Holmes. So Cavill wouldn't have been asked to dye his hair if he won the Hammer part.

And Cavill would've then gone the whole movie with people thinking he seems far more suited to Solo than Cruise. It would be like Cruise playing himself, and Solo playing Kuryakin.

This is supposed to become a franchise right?

Every tent pole these days its supposed to be franchise, that goes without saying.

I like Cruise. He's one of my favorite actors out there, but if this is supposed to be a franchise then I'm fine with him not doing this. He's 51.

And Cavill must feel glad he LOST the second lead and then replaced Cruise in the lead. This way he gets first billing! And trust me, in Hollywood first billing matters a lot if you are trying to establish yourself as a leading man.

This would be Cavill's third tent pole leading man billing after Immortals and Man Of Steel.

By the way I hope they do a sequel to Immortals. That would be great to see.

Definitely. It was a blessing in disguise. That's a great feeling (or so I'm told) when you think you've lost something but you get something better in return.

Pics of Cavill from today on set of Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Thanks for the pics. I'm kinda sad that Hammer doesn't have the Beatles mop top that David McCallum had though. He looks now more like a generic Russian. At least he has something that looks remotely like the black turtleneck, although he also needs the black slacks as well.

I will say though that these two look like far more physical and tougher versions of the characters than Vaughn and McCallum.

I like that they're both pretty huge dudes that look like they could **** you up in a fight. The cliche in these buddy scenarios is to have them both look different as night and day.

Question to those who know the series, is Solo always this formally dressed? Cavill has shot the entire movie wearing a buttoned up three piece suit. And Hammer seems much more casually dressed. Is it something like Solo does the thinking work and
Kuryakin does all the grunt work?

Solo is a playboy, Ilya is the stoic guy. It could just be them playing roles undercover or something.

I agree.

Thanks. I was interested in what their personalities were as well.

Solo was always dressed in expensive suits and ties whereas Kuryakin was always dressed more soberly, with a disdain for extravagance, and his classic look being a black turtle neck and black slacks. Kuryakin is also actually more intellectual and logical but also more of the athletic of the two with a background in gymnastics.

Ilia was more introverted, calculating, ruthless and reserved while Solo was extroverted, flashy, risk-taking and charming and more of a ladies man. It's actually very similar to the dynamic between Kirk and Spock if you substitute in Solo and Kuryakin.

Do you guys think Cavill is going to smoke for the role? I mean he smokes anyway, it'll add more authenticity to the time period it's set in anyway.

Interesting. Its basically two personas of Bond split into two different people. Fuse them together and there's your James Bond.

But if Solo's such a flashy guy, I wonder if we will see Cavill in something a little less formal in the film.

Well, the suit is accurate to Solo's personality. And when I say flashy, I mean in the sense of how Kirk was flashy compared to someone like Picard. Both were charismatic, but Kirk had a more gung-ho style. I suppose it can include Solo's taste for expensive suits too though, but that's more to do with sartorial elegance.

I don't see why not. It's not going to be a kids movie. I actually hate smoking and have never smoked in my entire life but I think smoking looks cool on screen when certain characters do it. That's probably a somewhat controversial opinion to put out there but I really don't care.

Cancer is also cool. - Liberal hipster soapbox :o

I couldn't get into the show once the first season ended. The show lost it's more refined charm and took an unfavourable turn IMO but I don't recall either of the protagonists smoking at all in the first season but it wouldn't be a bad thing if they did. It was the 60s after all.
