The failed movie that made 400 million $ in theaters...
actually "failed" is too harsh of a word since it got over 70% on RT, but as Alonsovich pointed out...they're practically rebooting the franchise after the backlash it received from all of it's flaws. yes, Superman Returns made quite a bit but even the producers said they were expecting more. it also didn't make a profit despite earning almost twice it's budget. on top of that, Batman Begins made $20 million less than SR and it spawned one of the best sequels of all time.

so while SR wasn't a FAILURE in the sense that it was a bomb, it certainly wasn't the success that it could or should have been. the fact that they've booted the original crew and are going in a new direction after only 4 years is a testament to SR's lack of success.

so why did the wb release the movie? when they screened it, they should have known what was wrong with it. instead they release the movie then complain it wasn't what they wanted okk

oh and winstead looks horrible for lois. as bad as bosworth
that's just crazy talk. Bosworth looked NOTHING like Lois. Winstead, with her hair the way it's been in recent interviews, looks almost perfect for the role! i'm not sure i want her as Lois, but i can't deny how much she visually fits the role.

i mean she looks very average. lois should look good, not likie a hot sexy model. but a stunning reporter that looks cute but when she wants can look sexy. not a shoe sales lady.

well, she may look average to you, but not to 90% of the hype. she's been proposed for almost every female role in comics BECAUSE of her looks. she can be very sexy if she wants to be...and these latest shots of her interviews for Scott Pilgrim show that she can be classy as well. in the looks department, she's up there with the best of them, which is why she's a frequent in our "Hottest Women" thread in the celebrities forum. so i don't understand why you think she looks like a shoe sales lady. i can guarantee you won't find one that looks like Winstead.

anyway, this isn't the Winstead thread...this is the Routh thread. if you wish to continue this conversation then please take it to the Lois Lane thread. i know you're new to the boards, but the mods are pretty tight about keeping conversations on track.

When they screened it the movie had a director's cut version. Basically with the original credits sequence, the RTK sequence that cost 15 million bucks and the Lex subplot where it's revealed he tricked Supes. Apparently that version didn't satisfy either Singer or the studio (most likely Singer, since he was given complete control of the project and WB knew EXACTLY what the shooting script was). Most likely what WB wanted was this version, which then Singer himself butchered. I doubt it was the studio, since I doubt any studio would like to have a 15 million dollar IMAX sequences cut out from any of it's releases.

lol

I'm sure you checked WB and Legendary's accounting to say that.
"...more than $60 million" in merchandising revenues (THR, 11/2/2007, p. P-7)
The guys at Legendary were really eager to produce a sequel, they even announced it on their website.

I'm sure you did too... please do tell us all why is it getting rebooted if it was so successful and their pockets are sooo full.

Because the definition of success changes by the minute among studio heads and fanboys.

Financially the movie did very well. The public had trouble with certain aspects of the film and were highly vocal about them. Thus....changes being made.

That and probably Singer's contractual share of the gross had something to do with the decision too.

Yep. I just went with a simple answer to the question. Most things are not truely answered with yes/no or black/white. There are so many things that are taken into account (especially in the wacky world of Hollyweird) that you can't easily list (or even be are of) all of them.

IMVHO, If Lex and the real estate plot had been portrayed differently, ie, stealing the crystals to make high tech weapons, inventing new tech that he sells to the highest bidders, and using the proceeds to create Lex-corp, then we would prolly have had our sequel by now. He could have even used one of his thugs and turned him into Metallo.
I don't think the kid or the supersuit would have mattered near as much if the above had been the plot.

We'll never know tho.

that's good and all, but i've already mentioned that SR actually made quite a bit of money. that wasn't the real problem here. after all, Batman Begins didn't make a HUGE profit either ($70 more than double it's budget). the REAL problem was that the movie just had a bunch of bad juju surrounding it due to the bad story elements (Superkid, Emo Supes, etc) PLUS Singer got caught up with other projects. so again, i admit that "failed" was a strong word...but it didn't create a sequel, which (fortunately or unfortunately depending on your perspective) has become the standard for "success" in Hollywood as of late.

but this is all BESIDES my original point that Routh is associated with the previous franchise that they're trying to stray AWAY from.

So why post in this thread?
because............i was talking about Brandon Routh duh! if it was meant to strictly be a thread for kissing his @$$ then they should've named it "the Brandon Routh Shrine" or "Praise Brandon Routh". it's not like i'm trolling here, i'm giving my honest opinion and backing it up. i like Routh, he seems to be a great guy...but imo, the fact that he's associated with SR makes him unlikely to star in this movie and what i see as dull acting doesn't really help his chances either.

Ironically Expendables is going to kick Pilgrim's ass this weekend. Inception might end up earning more too.

That is beyond awesome. In fact it's creeping into the realm of EPICNESS! I cannot wait for SP. BTW, if you have a PS3 the demo for the game is up and it is awesome as well. :woot:

I personally think that it's going to be a close race this weekend. The Expendables and Scott Pilgrim both look amazing. I see SP winning out though, just because I think that it will appeal to the younger masses, because of the video game vibe, but I don't know. Going to be a HUGE weekend nonetheless.
