Routh has so many points going for him (height, look, build, mannerisms, desire for the role, etc) that it would be a shame not to at least give him another casting shot.
Though from his perspective, it must be a bit of a bummer to have to audition for a role he has already played - probably feels a bit weird to him.
I agree that if he was in a new Superman movie, he would have to play the character differently to before - make it his own, rather than being a Christopher Reeve clone. In fairness though, I blame Bryan Singer for that - by making SR a homage to the Donner films, he was always going to have a Superman that was similar to the CR one. Brandon Routh simply played the character as he was directed to.
