Get someone most of the fans will be behind though, and see what happens. The Superman fan should not be underestimated, as they will be the one to decide on multiple trips to the B.O.

Ya to the general public there is no polarization, but I think many are underestimating the amount of Superman fans, and how they spend their money.

If it is Welling/Routh/Hamm for example, a Superman fan will see the film? Yes. However it may impact on multiple viewings I'd say. If someone different is chosen where there are no sides of strong opposition, I think a Superman fan is more likely to go back.

I know, the minority opinion on this one. Just what I believe.

Multiple viewings again are going to be made up of largely the GA, not the fanboys.

Superman, in terms of his hardcore fans who really love the character, is small compared that of other comic characters. They are not going to make up millions and millions of dollars in the BO.

I think the GA is made up of a lot of Superman fans. Hopefully you understand I am making a distinction between fanboys (24/7 dudes) vs general Superman fans. Imo there are a lot more GA Superman fans than you'd think, and they keep up with the news here and there and have some opinions on the actors as well. Certainly not as much as a fanboy, but imo more than some think.

Again that is just my opinion. I am talking general Superman fans, who make up a good bit of that GA.

I'd think a good majority of people are at least casual fans. With a truly awesome Superman movie, that could change. Alot of people I knew, even my dad that had never read comics or even seen many superhero movies, loved Batman after TDK.

Mwhahaha. Interesting piece of trivia I found on imdb's page for Lois and Clark.

Gerard Christopher auditioned for the role of Clark Kent/Superman, and was chosen by the casting director. However, when the casting director subsequently read Christopher's resume and discovered that he had previously starred as Clark Kent/ Superboy in "Superboy" (1988), he immediately dismissed Christopher. According to Christopher, the man told him, "you've done this already!"

So I guess all the hoopla with Brandon Routh and Tom Welling is not really that unheard of, in the history of Superman incarnations. :) Gotta admire Gerard Christopher for his balls though.

^ Also BAtman & Robin with George CLooney. Also they carried over the same Robin but replaced Batman  Yet no one was confused. And used the same Alfred in all 4 films but replaced Bruce/Batman 3 times.

The General Public honestly doesn't care and isn't going to get caught up in it, they just want to see a guy who looks like Superman for the role. Not gonna care if it's a reboot or if they see Routh again, no one's gonna leave the theatre scratching their heads "but i don't understand, was it a sequel or not? What happned to the little kid?" etc. THey're just in it for a good movie and aren't going to take it too seriously either way.

yet people don't get it.

i guess it isn't about he has done it b4 or public can get confused. it's about the fame n pride if it 's a superhit. he can claim i'm the one found the new superman.

But it was clearly a sequel, not a reboot.

Wrath of Khan was a 'sequel' in name only. The character portrayal for the main characters, the costuming, the tone of the film were clearly different than in the previous movie. It was a soft reboot, and people liked it even more than the first. Of course, they kept what worked: the same actors.

Gotta admit, I may be disappointed when they find routh's replacement....Routh is probably the biggest missed oppurtunity in comic movie history.

Hamm is not a polarizing choice so thats just a ridiculous claim. Mad Men averaged about 2 and half million viewers this past season, most don't even know who he is! Most on this website haven't ever even seen him in his best role (Don Draper ofcourse) so all of their b**ching about him is ridiculous. You guys don't even know that he has proven to be apt at comedy when he twice hosted SNL and Guest stared on 30 Rock. You can not want him for the role but a talented, Emmy nominated, very handsome, charming and chiseled man is in no way a polarizing choice.

Welling was never up for the role so he can't be polarizing either. Routh is the only truely polarizing figure because he played in a Superman movie in which half of the audience was meh on.

Goddammit WB, give this guy his blue tights back already! :cmad:

YES. Man, those facial features scream Superman! It just doesn't get any better than that.

His character seems really sad and lost. Aww.

I love that second Bar pic. It's like that scene in SR, only years later. He's looking good.

It's only polarizing to fanboys. Doesn't matter who gets picked, internet fans are going to complain about the actor chosen for Superman.

The GA does not care as long as the choice looks the part and performs it well.

And that's where it stops imo. Sorry, but those pictures sum up Routh pretty good. I hate to say it, and this is not trolling at all, but Routh's acting so far is as distant as someone like Keanu Reeves.

is it a bad thing? because he can't win an oscar??

btw, if the medias like him and give him full support for returning. it could be very much helpful.

Well, I'd prefer a character with dimension and personality. We didn't exactly get that with SR and that's doesn't appear to be Singer's fault alone.

I wouldn't call it distant. Reeves has no expression in his face and no tone in his voice. Routh is far from that. He's not one of the great actors, but he's no Keanu.

LAWL, you pulled an I Am The Knight on me :woot: Yeah, well, I actually have never seen him in anything other than SR, so I won't comment on his acting, but I think looks and tone of voice go a long way, and in that sense, he worked as a Reeve-like Superman. I don't know how he would fare under Snyder's Superman, though, but I would be willing to give him a chance. Altough he really shouldn't be playing Superman if this is indeed a total reboot.

I've noticed that your only purpose on this thread is to put Brandon down. Why are you posting here? I know you support Cavill, why don't you post on his thread instead? I never post in that thread since I don't like Cavill for Supes.

And I totally disagree with everything you said. IMO, Superman Returns has a lot of heart, it's a damn good film, and that's in big part due to Brandon's performance as Supes/Clark. And he carries that film. The film and Brandon got lots of good/great reviews when it came out, you know?

I've seen him in almost everything he's done and to me he's a really good actor with a potential to become a great one.

I think that Routh be Superman again.

He still has a good chance of getting the role, IMO.

I'm really impressed with how well BR has beefed up over time. Hamm's my #1 choice for a mature Superman, but if they wanna go young again I hope they pick Routh over some new face.

I guess I just wanna like him, because he has/had alot of potential. I think Brandon Routh the person appears to be very appealing and I wouldn't mind getting him back, but I'm still not convinced he would be a good enough actor today.
I'm not flaming Routh at all. I just dont think he's the man unfortunately. But I do think people are too hung up on him looking the part and not being able too see past that.
