Mediocre movie according to whom?
SR has a tomatometer of 76% among the critics and 67% for the audience,
on IMDB it has an average vote of 6.6 (Superman II has 6.7).
Some people should learn that their opinion is not always the same one of the whole universe.
Ghost Rider (5.2 on IMDB) is getting a sequel where the only thing left from the first one is the actor. They're not calling it a reboot, but they changed everything else, bike included.

From my first sentence where I said "I do think that Routh did make a pretty good Superman who unfortunately got lost in a mediocre movie." I would say that I'm saying it was a mediocre movie which is my opinion - thus the opening of the sentence with "I do think..."!

We can sight numbers out of the ying yang regarding if a movie was good or not but that's not the point here. The question is will Routh be back in the role. As I said I "thought" he was good and personaly would have no problems with him back in the suit - but I also think/know it's not going to happen and that Nolan and Snyder will be starting with everything fresh - including the lead part of their movie.

We already have a worthy big screen Superman: Brandon Routh

All this casting call thing is frankly ridiculous. Snyder and company should just put their big egos aside and realize this. I highly doubt they'll be able to find a better guy for the role than BR for this generation.

BR has been a great ambassador to the character all this time, and he looks exactly like the Superman from the comicbooks. He's also a really good actor and a nice, decent guy like Superman. He deserves better than this!

I wasn't too big on Routh when SR first came out, however over the years I find myself liking him more and more. I really think he could pull it off as Superman in the new movie especially since he seems to be not only a better actor but also more mature looking as well.

Alas, more and more it appears that they are going to go a different direction. If so, Routh will always be part of the Superman family. I wish him well.

Lois & Superman Flight

You wrote that the world doesn't need a savior, but every day I hear people crying for one." Great line!

i guess routh is officially out since the thread is moved.

They can delete the thread if they want, but until Superman is officially announced to be played by anyone other than Routh, no one's "officially" in or out.

^Why would they need to delete this thread, though? I don't see a problem with Brandon having his own thread in the SR forum or whatever.

Some love for Brandon from comicbook writer Mark Millar..

@AdamIngleby Brandon Routh is a really good actor tho. He's fantastic in Scott Pilgrim. His comic timing is really great too.

@AdamIngleby Brandon Routh was brilliant, esp his Clark Kent after terrible TV guys for 2 decades. But a reboot would mean a new guy, sadly.

There hasn't been any solid info at all, so I'd reckon that's true enough.

I've heard he's not and I've heard he is... they need to cut this s*** out and give us some official news.

Finally watched Scott Pilgrim tonight. I thought the movie was pretty stupid overall. Routh's scene was great though. I enjoyed that quite a bit. Tom Jane showing up as the Vegan poilice was hilarious

I don't know why, but until we get confirmation as to a new person being officially picked to play the role of Superman in Snyder's new film, I won't give up complete hope that BR still has a chance of getting back into the cape and tights officially.

Yep. Until then, EVERYTHING is speculation.

Bring Routh Back.

I would love Routh to come back he's my first choice but he's not coming back. The casting call has pretty much confirmed that. Btw this is an instance I would love to be proved wrong.

you know,i have bashed B.R. a number of times!! i was guilty of being a supes fanboy and was let down by that terrible movie!! But stepping away from my fanboyism and watching that movie again in Blu-Ray i must say Brandon Routh did not do a bad job.. He had poor direction..

B.R.'s Clark Kent was good but his Supes needed to be a little more manly!! I would say bring him back with a director like Schynder and C.Nolan behind the scenes Brandon would & could be great!!

To be honest I think his Superman just needed more lines, he didnt have nowhere near enough

you are absolutely right!!! Supes had no quoteable lines at all or halfway decent lines for that matter.. that team starting with the Director just made a fanboy movie and forgot that supes has depth to him..

i just read Superman:Origins, and that would be the perfect story for Brandon Routh!!!

!!

He didn't forget that, you just didn't like or understand they way the writers/director added depth/character development to Superman/Clark in SR; film is a visual medium, you don't always need lines or lots of dialogue to convey emotions/moods/ideas, imo. I think Brandon did very good job at expressing what Superman was feeling (isolated, sad, content, proud, angry, etc) in the movie.

Still, I would have liked some more lines for Supes and Clark cuz I like his voice and why not, but what was there worked well for the type of movie this was, imo. I see Superman as a man of action mostly.
