I think Brandon Routh is still proud of the work he did on Superman Returns. He was asked at this year's comic con if he enjoyed playing a villain on Scott Pilgrim vs The World as opposed to playing goody two shoes Superman and he said that between Superman and any other character, he would always choose Superman. :)

^ Superman Returns was a beautiful piece of movie-making. It was a somewhat slow burning movie, but never before has superman been presented with such a god-like majestic feel. Returns wasn't exactly what I had thought it out to be, but I still have a very sore spot for it. In alot of ways, it really is underated.

I personally put it on the same level as the first Hulk movie. They were different, not what people expected, so they were flops. Not to say they were perfect by any means, just different. And I wish people would judge them for the movies they are, not the movies they wanted them to be.

he was a still bit boyish in SR. but he is perfect now. get him WB!

Please WB/DC bring Brandon Routh back as Kal-El / Clark Kent / Superman in the upcoming Superman reboot, Superman: The Man of Steel.

Aw! That's cute. Sweet boy.

With all the whispers, rumors, and guesses, I'm going to take a hopeful time out and look at the "Portman as Lois?" story from a different angle...

Anyone else think it's interesting that we're finally getting some scuttlebut about the next Superman movie (potential directors on the "short list") and the next rumor to make headlines...a CASTING rumor...is not who might play Superman, but Lois.

Could it be that WB is working on a new supporting cast and not necessarily Big Blue himself...because they've already got him?

Jamie at TMT agrees:

"If they are already contacting actresses about playing Lois, you would think they might have their Superman..."

...So, I'm wondering, could it be that the dust is settling, and Brandon Routh is back?

Although it's interesting to think that (I'd like to see Brandon given a better script), I would just say that the Portman rumor is only because Aronofsky has been thrown in and they just completed Black Swan. It's probably just someone out there trying to get us fans all excited or trying to drum up press for Black Swan -- most likely both since we're simple and get giddy at the mere mention of Supes in the press.

Why do they take advantage of us? :csad:

IMHO the two things Superman Returns got right are Brandon Routh as Kal-El / Clark Kent / Superman and Supes being the sole survivor of the doomed planet Krypton.

The point is not the Portman part...it's really that rumors are suddenly flying about Lois...not Superman.

I don't think it's Portman either.

But I think they ARE looking into Loises obviously...so maybe they HAVE their Superman.

What I was trying to say is that I don't think they are even looking at Lois yet. I feel like this Lois rumor is all part of drumming up more press for Black Swan -- not that they have already found Superman.

I mean it's pretty convenient that Aronofsky's name pops up and soon Portman's -- the star of his new film that's getting a lot of buzz.

Using that rationale, they could also be looking at Tom Welling. He has been playing the character for 10 years, and even if Smallville was by no means a perfect show, if it's going to end with Clark finally wearing the suit, that's the perfect segway for a movie. And casting Tom Welling means the movie will have an extra fanbase added to it.

Superman's fanbase is WAY bigger than Smallville's.

And who is that version of the character going to fight? He already fought a lame version of Doomsday any way. I also understand that Darkseid is showing up as well.. Smallville is just no big screen material at all.

I'm not saying do a Smallville movie. Just use Tom Welling for Superman. He's had 10 years to prepare for the role, he's a TV actor therefore I can't see him charging TOO much money, and millions of fans already love him. I'm not saying it's my favourite option because I don't think he's a very good actor. But I think it'd be pretty cool if he graduated to the movie-verse. It could be slightly confusing, but not any more so than Chris Evans playing two characters from the same comic-verse.

yeah but even snyder said he wanted nothing to do with the movie.

i call smoke screen. they're probably still accessing their options.
THANK YOU!! I said that in one of the other threads and the only response that I got was "lolz, dat username".

snyder never said he wanted nothing to do with it

he said he would'nt know how to approach it

i think it's safe to assume at this point that Routh is out. as someone said in another thread, him back as Superman would just be a marketing nightmare...

Variety confirms straight from Zack Snyder.

No more Brandon Routh.

"Confirms" that Routh returning is "unlikely."

...AND Variety didn't even give us a quote of what Snyder actually said.

To me even the mention of Zod means there's hope for Routh. I mean, after all, according to fans and every article ever written about Nolan's Superman, this is a "Reboot" when Nolan himself has never said those words.

General Zod is the villain and somehow people aren't even considering the possibility that the next film might not be as rebooty as speculated.
