I hope he comes back, it would certainly make me a happy camper

Let's get some more Superman already :supes:

"Confirms" that Routh returning is "unlikely."

...AND Variety didn't even give us a quote of what Snyder actually said.

To me even the mention of Zod means there's hope for Routh. I mean, after all, according to fans and every article ever written about Nolan's Superman, this is a "Reboot" when Nolan himself has never said those words.

General Zod is the villain and somehow people aren't even considering the possibility that the next film might not be as rebooty as speculated.

LOL how do people still think Routh has a chance? I would kill for Welling to get the role but I know it's never gonna happen. You just have to accept the harsh reality, man.

If you arent a fan of Rout then why are you here?

I for one hope Routh gets another chance with a good movie

you don't have to be a fan to post in this thread....it's made for discussion, not brown nosing.

Are you guys ******ed? Obviously they won't cast Routh for a reboot... That's like if George Cloony played Batman in Batman Begins (and don't give me the "Batman and Robin was a bad film" ********, because frankly, Superman Returns was not a good Superman film either - it was a good film, but not a good Superman film. However, both Routh and Cloony have the ability to play an amazing Superman and Batman, but because these are reboots, they won't be cast. Imagine if Tobey Maguire was cast to play Spider-Man in the reboot, or if Eric Banna was cast as Hulk in Incredible Hulk.)

The one chance Routh has is Snyder's geekiness. Let's hope he's a fan.

First of all, getting Routh is a bad idea - IT'S A NEW FREAKING FRANCHISE!!! Second of all, what the hell does being a geek have to do with wanted Routh to always play Superman? I'm a geek, and I don't want him to play Superman either. Hell, I've been watching Smallville since seasone 1 and I don't want Welling as Superman either. This is a NEW franchise.

Nolan said that this isn't a reboot, merely another chapter in the Superman saga. It is essentially a "stand alone" story with no clear ties to any one continuity. That doesn't mean Routh will be back, but until we know more about the story, we can essentially stop expecting a reboot, at least to the extent that BB was.

A damn shame, damn shame. I loved Routh's performance, and always wanted to see him come back.

It's hard finding a new Superman, I say keep what works.

I'm on some new s***, I'm chuckin my deuces up to him. Time to find a new Superman

It is, and it isn't.

That bugs me, it being a reboot but not being a reboot

That's one of the big things that made SR a cluster**** in the first place. It needs to take a clear direction and go with it. If it takes place in the Donner continuity then bring back Routh, bring back the Williams score and just tell a good story this time. If it doesn't then start completely fresh, like the Donner films never happened.

i actually just rewatched superman returns as a refresher and other than the story and kate bosworth's constantly petulant disposition, i actually still really like the movie, especially Routh's performance. which makes me wonder where those wooden performances he put up on chuck and scott pilgrim came from.

i really hope they decide to go the old school james bond route where we don't have to follow the continuity of the previous film yet still understand that its still james bond on another adventure.

but on a tangent, watching superman returns and thinking about what snyder's style is, i'm afraid of losing the art deco set design - the daily planet was beautiful - and singer's direction. just the way he laid out the sequence of events for the action scenes at the end, or the silent moments in the film that feel very art house. though, i could have done with a little less of the jesus on the cross visual references. so i understand the impulse to have a more action packed superman, but at the same time i feel as if this wasn't a comic book property, it may have been better received.

If Welling has to be out because of Smallville then Routh also has to be out because of SR, there can be no double standard. At least Welling has never played Superman on screen, so it'd be easier to transition. Routh has been exposed to millions as Superman & is constantly refered to as Superman in interviews as a result of being in SR so, there's no going, "Well it's been 4 years, no one remembers SR, it can be done". It can not, the smart thing to do is move on & hope for the best.

LOL how do people still come into the "Official Brandon Routh" thread and not realize posters still hope Routh will land the role.

You have to accept the harsh reality, man. ANYONE can land the role until the role is official cast and announced.

If Nicholas Cage can be Ghost Rider again... Stranger things HAVE happened people. I don't think it's totally out of the realm of possibility for either Routh or Welling to get the part. It all depends on how WB sees the audience for this. Either they think we're smart enough to understand the difference between the projects they've already been part of and this new project, or we're not.

Welling was never in consideration for Superman since the old days, 03ish.

Routh was WB's guy up until last year.

The gameplan changed with DC Ent was formed, Robinov stepped into Horn's shoes, and Nolan was brought in. Robinov, Nelson and the other players at DC Ent have no connection to Routh. The top brass that wanted Routh as Superman are irrelevant nowadays.

It's essentially a different situation for the two of them.

I think that Snyder saying "they're going in another direction" sounds kinda final, and makes me think we're getting an older Superman this time. :woot:

I dunno. lots of Hammer rumors going around as well.

I dunno either, but I have a feeling about a more mature take (and character) this time....

Interesting times... :awesome:

They also claim Zod is official.

"Please keep Brandon Routh in the role. He was perfect as Clark Kent and Superman. It wasn't his fault the script wasn't up to snuff. With Zack directing and Routh returning you've got yourself a (fingers crossed) huge hit on your hands."

Yes, totally AGREE with that.

Sigh, I'm very, very sad that it really looks like Brandon won't play the part in the next movie. :csad: At least he would bring some necessary life to Snyder's Superman, who I think it's wrong for this character.

Sure his Superman will look pretty but it will have no soul/heart. Sorry but the guy is a very poor storyteller.

I also don't buy his suddent love and interest in the character; I think he's desperate because his films haven't done so well and is trying to secure his future/career. He did say like over a year ago that Superman wasn't sophisticated enough for today's audiences. He just really doesn't undertand this character.
