Whoa. Tom is killing him, whats up with that.

Also, I think the contacts which actually help make him look more "alien" also put up a barrier. They make him look even more inhuman and distant which should fit the character, but in this case didnt really help the actor.

There are so many different types of contacts. Bryan wanted an alien-looking style. There are natural looking blues as well.

Actually, to most people he NAILED the part. You may not have liked his work much, but the fact is that to a lot of people he did a great job with the story and material he was given to work with. It's NOT his fault there was no sequel, there were other factors at work, especially Bryan Singer.

Brandon won awards for his work in SR such as:

“Superman Returns” Tops Saturn Awards, including Best Actor for Brandon.

And sorry but this 'too much negative baggage' is a myth among online fanboys. Yes, many people expected a different approach with this film, but a lot of people also loved the film as it is. General audiences just wanted MORE action. I don't really think there was a need for a reboot, but I don't make the calls so...

Thank you for this post!

Hate towards Singer, Routh, Superman Returns has become a belief system amongst certain fanboys...a belief system that continues to smolder despite mountains of factual evidence that stand opposed to such beliefs.

Again, thank you for this ever-so-slight dose of reality.

I think the overwhelming bias on the site is obvious. Did you guys see the stuff underneath the poll? Bunch of haters.

I actually find that manip over the top hilarious! :woot: Imagine all the time, effort and energy that it took to make it. Man some people have so much time on their hands.. :cwink:

I can hear my past self attempting to strangle me now, but if the only two options were Welling and Routh I'd go with Routh. There is way too much at stake here to risk tying this movie up with a TV show that was supposed to end 5 seasons ago, and even though I have big problems with either actor reprising their role in Man of Steel, Routh would be the lesser risk (though it would still be a risk). Tom Welling has had 10 years to nail the role and he still hasn't done it, but at least with Routh we can chock up most of the problems with his performance to SR's bad direction and putrid script.

To be fair, Welling hasn't nailed Superman because he wasn't allowed to. I am as shocked as anybody that Smallville lasted so long! But if you base your opinion of how well Welling can play Superman, you should base it on this last season when he's allowed to be as Supermanly as he or the writers want to.

I'm more shocked that 7th Heaven went 11 seasons.

Actually, I'm not. The WB/CW keeps everything to keep that sad network afloat.

C'mon fellas, you couldn't get more 'Superman' than this:

People say Cain has the best physique of all the Superman actors. I think Brandon has reached there:

I disagree with that, I don't think he wil get it but the general audience won't be confused, trust me people who just watch these movies don't always realise things I know people that didn't know Batman Begins was a reboot. I don't think it would confuse the public at all.

as far as actually testing out whether or not it would actually confuse the public, i don't think the studio would want to risk that.

as i said, the only example i can think of is judy dench as m for casino royale, but a lead character? if someone here has an example of a lead role being re-cast in a reboot, and it working, then please let me know.

for now, i will guess that having a lead from a previous film in a new film will cause people to assume that this is the same continuity, something nolan and co. are moving away from...

And with a few months work in the gym, he could become even more jacked up. Look at what Chris Hemsworth looked like before Thor, and Brandon is already good enough to put on the Superman suit. Appearance-wise, he doesn't look anywhere as 'boyish' as he did in Superman Returns and really has matured a lot in the past few years (and in all likelihood, will look even better by 2012). If Brandon does get to play Superman again, he might actually have a shot at dethroning Chris Reeve as far as the 'definitive Superman' look is concerned.

Speaking of the Scream Awards, amusing, not surprising, winner this year:

Best Superhero:

Congrats to RDJ.

thanks for that, but it looks like even though the chronology of those films was in a different order, it's not the same as making a reboot using the lead actor from a previous franchise

Well, not really, cause they were not really sequels or sequels, as a lot of the actors played different characters. the movie were some kind of reboots.

You have also Sean Connery coming back as Bond with never say never again, ( remake of thunderball) and the same year Moore played again the character (in the main franchise) .

I understand you loved Scott Pilgrim vs the world. You saw Brandon's performance in it. Do you think he wasn't any good in his role? Most reviews I read praised him a lot and said he was one of the highlights of the film. Wright said he cast him as Todd Ingram (and Evans as another evil ex) because he basically wanted Scott Pilgrim to face off evil Superman, and also because he needed two really impossing actors that had real presence.

Seriously, next to Brandon, you can see just how wrong Cain was for the role. Don't take me wrong, Cain was cute in his younger days, but he never really had the 'look' or the presence.

Hmm, not sure about that, I think both men simply have/had a GREAT look for this character. I love them both equally.
