I hope the board of Sony has more supporters for Webb than not.
He's a guy who just came from the indie scene. He has no clout whatsoever among the suits. It's all about who you know and I doubt webb is a big corporate type of guy.
Given that Webb hasn't got a huge volume of previous works to examine, I don't think there's enough to ascertain how much of TASM was a reflection of Webb and how much was a reflection of other external factors. As it stands though, I don't think his failure to return would have particularly negative consequences, replacing him with another good director isn't a task that seems too herculean.

The first film started principal photography 19 months prior to it's release. If we do the math and equte that to the sequel, then October/November 2012 is when you would think shooting will start on the sequel. That's only 3 months from now.
If Webb doesn't return I would be very concerned. My biggest worries are A) That Sony settles for some paint by numbers genre hack instead of going after a major talent. Unless this (potential) turnover was in the works for months, they are on such a tight schedule to find a suitable replacement that they might have to settle for less. And B) That big time talents wouldn't want this job because the only option given by Sony is to pick up the pieces to Webb's vision instead of given he opportunity to fully realize their own.
Sony needs to swing for the fences, go big or go home! The reboot has won over many of the skeptics. I was glad to hear reports from comic-con that many were showing their love for the reboot. If a replacement is indeed in the cards then only a big name (big talent more specifically) will suffice.
So the next couple of months will be very interesting and extremely important to say the least.
I don't understand the logical reasoning behind Webb not coming back for a sequel, TASM was a box office success was it not?
What if he doesn't exist anymore? The Marc Webb has to come back
Sony may feel the movie lacked action
Webb may be contractually obligated to make a Fox movie
What if he doesn't exist anymore?
No.
Webb nailed everything down, the charecters and their emotions were by the far the best in any CBM. Action wise it was *mind my language for lack of a better word* fan-****ing tastic. He nailed it.
I swear if he goes this series is doomed.
Ill be the 1st out if that Tarsem Singh rumor is true.
Lets hope this is like most rumors and dissappears into thin air. This would be the end as far as I'm concerned. Sony may feel the movie lacked action
Webb may be contractually obligated to make a Fox movie
Honestly though, I am pretty sure Webb isn't coming back. Watch, in the next 6 months Sony is going to announce that there is a new director for TASM 2. I promise.he must...he must
I don't believe it, not at the moment.Honestly though, I am pretty sure Webb isn't coming back. Watch, in the next 6 months Sony is going to announce that there is a new director for TASM 2. I promise.
It's all on sony if they want him back or not.
