Marvel’s First Family Casting Thread

In light of Ben-Adir’s Secret Invasion casting, a slightly amended cast for the First Family:

Reed Richards: Jay Ellis, 39

Sue Storm: Mackenzie Davis, 33

Johnny Storm: Timothee Chalamet, 25

Ben Grimm: Channing Tatum, 40

Channing is actually an interesting choice for Ben

Yeah. That's why I chose him as an older wiser Johnny Storm in my older, veteran , F4 team .

I imagine ,with the older cast, that they would have been a team for about 10 years ,having gone through all types of adventures, and gone through their whole rogues gallery.

I know that's not the route Marvel is going at all, but , that's how I envision it in my imaginary F4 film universe.

Charlize Theron needs to be in the MCU 10 years ago. I think she would be perfect as Moondragon or Madame Hydra. She is the very definition of a Femme Fatale

Channing Tatum is like a funnier Chris Evans or a hybrid of Chris Evans, Chris Pratt, and John Cena. He really would be a perfect fit for the MCU. I would be fine with him playing Gambit or Ben Grimm in the MCU

This is another " It ain't gonna happen" cast , but here it is :

The Fantastic Four UK cast

Reed : Matt Smith

No thanks. Matt Smith would only perpetuate the nerdy scientist type which we don't need, and also Rosamund Pike is older than him and looks it. Sue should always be younger, if not significantly younger. Pike is also too cold for Sue.

Alright, here's my ideal Fantastic 4

Henry Golding - Reed Richards

(Joseph Gordon-Levitt is my number 2 choice)

Jennifer Lawrence - Sue Storm

(Not necessarily ideal, but I think it might happen)

Tanner Buchanan - Johnny Storm

(
Also like Dacre Montgomery for the role)

Ben Grimm - Channing Tatum

(
Wouldn't be opposed to Joel Edgerton, Seth Rogen, among others though)

I disagree with you on both counts. They're both actors capable of playing roles beyond the one's they've previously played. As far as age goes, Pike is only a few years older than Smith. Pike was born in 79, Smith in 82.

She looks older because that manip of Smith as Reed was from a pic of Smith several years back as opposed the way Smith looks today. He doesn't look as young today.

Yeah, Pike is 3 years older than Smith, but Smith ain't a spring chicken. They could have gone to Highschool together, so it would be far from a May December romance.

But neither is your choice, so fair enough.

All the actors I picked are clearly on the older range ,which is why I stated at the beginning of the post that it's a cast that's not gonna happen .

Andrew Garfield as Reed I like a lot, but given the fact that it’s pretty much guaranteed Holland Peter will meet Garfield Peter, I don’t think Marvel would want Holland Peter to initially mistake MCU Reed for an alternate dimension version of himself when those characters meet.

I like Andrew Garfield (suggested him long ago), Lilly James (thought about her being Sue last week), Timothee Chalamet (was always my first choice for Johnny) and Rami Malek - but as Namor instead

My first thought was that there is some comic precedence for this - the alternate Earth Reed Richards who became the Thing came to mind.

But then I realized both versions of Reed Richards looked the same pre-accident.

In this case you would have two very different characters -Peter Parker and Reed Richards - looking like one another, so I think that would be more problematic.

Personally, I’ve never been a fan of these alternate realities, but they are a big part of the comics, so I guess the films should reflect that.

As a fan of the older Judd Apatow films, it would be really cool to see that Ben Grimm interact with Scott Lang.

i didnt even think about that! Nice point. Also, if Zac Efron gets the part of Adam Warlock we may even see a Neighbors reunion lol

i am not a fan of the alternate realities either - it is more for the hardcore fan and will turn off many casuals - perhaps even some hardcore fans such as myself who find it overly complicated and cheap writing instead of just sticking to one story branch.

Seth Rogen needs to be Ben - I really like that dude
gonna watch Knocked up tonight.

If I could choose Reed - than it should be Joseph Gordon Levit teaming up with SR and Anthony Mackie again. But I assume Reed will be POC, and that’s also fine.

best choices for Reed. if he‘ll be POC: Donald Glover or Lakeith Stanfield

They could re-enact the double date scene from Knocked Up, but instead of Leslie Mann, it's Evangeline Lilly and instead of Katherine Heigl it's whoever plays Alicia Masters.

I know he is probably too old, but my #1 pick for Reid is Brad Pitt. And for the sake of "diversity", Ben should be played by an African-American.

More generally, I'd say a good rule of thumb is "Avoid casting minority actors in roles where they will get turned into completely CGIed monsters". Or perhaps not *avoid*, but certainly don't pat yourself on the back for having done so.

I will agree to Ben being played by an African American only if T'Challa is played by a Jewish-Israeli-American

Conceptually there is no problem with an African American playing Ben Grimm given that African American Jews exist. As pointed out by metaphysician, the problem is casting a minority actor and turning them into a CGI monster.
