Marvel Solicitations For July 2008

Your soul is safe; Quesada said in last week's MyCup o' Joe that they've got "big plans" for the YA in 2009, with the original creators involved.

Thankfully! Ya know, my comment about soul selling and you post mentioning Quesada reminded me of...nvm :p

Yeah, I'll look forward to the conclusion of that on my deathbed.
Really, well, that's good to hear as long as Herc keeps at the quality it is. I don't really know about sells, though, I can only hope it's doing well.
It's lowest position on the sales charts so far has been 30, so it should be fine.

Just like he promised us a 12 issue run of Ultimate X-Men written by Bryan Singer & the rest of his movie team in 2004...and 2005...and 2006...by 2007, you were supposed to have quietly forgotten. Kind of like DAREDEVIL: TARGET or ULTIMATE WOLVERINE VS. HULK or every other series Joe cynically agreed to launch and then quietly allowed to fade into history.

I believe nothing until I see some published issues in my hands. Or at least a 6 page preview.

UXM isn't really Marvel's fault, Singer just can't commit to the book. And Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk has apparently been finished (or at least, is one script short) but Yu has been too busy with Secret Invasion to draw Lindelof's story.

Which is why:

1). Chasing Hollywood creators is folly

2). To not promise your customers what you are not 100% sure you can deliver

In every other business, if the boss promises a product and it is delayed or canceled, whose fault is it? "The buck" has to stop at the top. :p

It is interesting how Marvel firmly dove into the "demonic annulment" retcon, because the SENSATIONAL SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL from Fraction & Larocca that all but reaffirmed why the marriage WORKS was just nominated for an Eisner Award for BEST SINGLE ISSUE (ONE SHOT). Maybe the lesson is that the marriage itself was not the problem, it was the writers devoted to covering it. Oh, well, the road not traveled.

Other Marvel Eisner nominations include IMMORTAL IRON FIST for BEST NEW SERIES and Brubaker for BEST WRITER, and the AGENTS OF ATLAS for BEST GRAPHIC NOVEL REPRINT. I didn't know reprint efforts got Eisner's.

They didn't dive into it firmly. Anyone who's still reading ASM post-OMD knows that they have plans already to address the marriage issue. They had plans a long time ago. People just need to wait to watch how the story unfolds.

And saying it's all the writer's faults say nothing, considering the fact that many of us have different tastes in art styles AND it's not their own character so it's not entirely their original ideas at play here.

I really thought that annual was the best argument for why the marriage works.I hope IIF wins best new series.Although Scalped is great too.Damn I can't decide.
