Marvel Films Marvel Studios’ SDCC 2024 Hall H Panel - Predictions & Discussion Thread

I'll reserve judgement until after the first Avengers Doomsday trailer.

But I'm not betting against the Russos.

Ngl, I was like 99% sure we were getting AvX movie but this...

Even if RDJ wasn't Doom, pushing Doom to the forefront to be the villain and sidelining Kang is just throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Maybe Kang will still be involved but with the title change focusing on Doom now is kinda dumb.

Maybe in 2 years, I'll be singing a tune and think the movie is great. But for now, it seems everything I have been hoping they wouldn't do, they are double downing on.
Have we all forgotten the GA treated Kang like crap and memed on him by going "he got beaten by giant ants" out of context? His actor getting in deep trouble didn't help matters. And nobody said anything more about him come Loki Season 2 last year.

Bringing in Victor Von Doom, a villain who NEEDS a good take after 3-4 horrible movies (two-three of which didn't even portray him as ruler of Latveria) and getting RDJ back as him after he just won an Oscar for playing a villain in Oppenheimer last year....

You want to get people interested in the Multiverse stuff? This and Deadpool are it.

Oh, I am all in on my bet against this. Not from a BO perspective. But in a bet against SF will watch this and enjoy it for decades way. Bring out the Texas Hold Em table!

You ain't getting me on board with evil Iron Man that they're naming Doctor Doom. Ya just ain't. It's a lost cause

Ngl, I was enjoying everything I was hearing up until the RDJ news. I love the guy, but Dr. Doom being related to Tony Stark in any way is a terrible idea. I always reserve final judgement until I've seen the final product but count me among those disappointed for the time being.

First off, recasting is a thing. Second, even with the poor Ant-Man reviews, most people thought Majors was the best thing about the movie. So Kang wasn't the problem.

Here's the reveal video. They're flat-out saying VICTOR. So yeah, he's not Tony.

Say whatever ya want, call him whatever ya want, he is just going to be evil Iron Man. That's what everyone is going to see. They didn't cast Iron Man to be Doom by accident

I kind of agree.

When you're staging a comeback you bring out the big hitters.

Kang was fumbled for reason within and outside Marvels control.

And unlike Thanos they don't have 6 long years of build up for the big villian.

This was the best way.

A non-variant of Doom is coming. Rest assured.

FFS, that's who he is in the comics at times. Dude literally uses "Doombots" to fill in for him when he's off doing something else. Have we forgotten that?

Pivoting away from Kang is fine if you have a good idea for it. Replacing him with Iron Man and throwing a reskin on top of him and calling him Doctor Doom isn't it.

Exactly. I really don't understand why Spider-Fan is being a baby over this. This was literally just announced and he's acting like it'll be the worst movie of 2026. I'm trying to be fair and not get into trouble and I get this nonsense.

Dr Doom and Iron Man are very distinctly different characters. Yes, they are tech based villains with armors and robots. But that's where the similarities end. No one would confuse the 2 as being the same.

If you are excited by this, good for you. But there is a reason a lot of people are not on board with this.

It's not a Tony variant. They literally called him VICTOR ON STAGE.

I don't see you guys calling Johnny Storm in D&W a Cap variant.

You can be excited and debate your point without insults. Don't do it again or you'll be on a vacation.

Dude simmer down. We're not a monolith, we don't all have to agree and like the same thing.

I just see you and maybe one other guy. Everyone else on Reddit and Twitter are going gaga over this.

Cause it's a reference to a past movie. It ain't like they just cast him as Johnny out of thin air randomly. Apples to boats

It's interesting because the same thing that happened to MCU Spidey has now happened to MCU Doom.

With that being said, I like this casting. It's shocking and new in the best possible way.

I have seen plenty on this site calling it bad. Go to the Cinematic Civil War thread or several others. There is plenty of dissent

So glad I'm not the only one disappointed in the Doomsday idea. Even if he's not playing Tony Bon Doom I've been sick of Tony/RDJr being shoved down our throats.

Still on the camp that "superhero fatigue" has more to do with monopoly of the studio (Disney) taking over and monopolizing a franchise (Marvel). The moat acclaimed movies in recent years were NWH and now Deadpool and Wolverine are receiving praise, movies that focused on characters from an era where different studios were releasing superheroes movies, this created competition and movies with better quality.

I hate this and this is what I would have expected from DC and Sony being reactionary rather to sticking to their guns.

He got that Oscar, time to get another bag. Respect.

Look I don’t love this but Downey is an unbelievably good actor. We’ll see if they can make this work I guess.

Dr. Doom is the quintessential Marvel villain that has been repeatedly beset by poor live-action adaptations in the past. You can't blame anyone for not being instantly thrilled by an odd decision like casting the guy known for playing Iron Man. Especially as there was hope that Victor would finally be done right following Marvel getting the film rights back.
