Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - Part 5

I think it's great that there are alot of characters here that have never been used before.

I actually feel that the total roster of this game is much better than the one in MvC1 and 2.

Warning. Long post ahead.

I understand people wanting their favorites in, but my issue is with people who bash on characters just simply because they don't know them or weren't in MVC2. Which I find very close minded. Rocket Raccoon wasn't on my most wanted list, but I'm getting sick of people blaming him for everything and targeting him to be the scapegoat as to why characters XYZ didn't make the cut. I've seen people even blame him for MM not being in. It pissed me off enough when people did this to She-Hulk(whom I actually wanted), now I'm just bitter at it in general. Speaking of She-Hulk I remember Joe ranting in his first review about how no one wanted her and MODOK. I recall a good number of people on Gamefaqs and Capcom Unity requesting her.

I bet most of characters people are hating on would have had more fans if they were in MVC2. The fact that there are so many people happy over Sentinel and Strider is proof of this. And the fact that there are still people begging for CapCom and Jin proves it even further. Some people just can't wrap their mind around a character who wasn't in MVC2 or in some cartoon in the 90s.

MVC2 and even the first one had it's share of lesser known characters. MVC1 had Strider, CapCom, and Jin. When it comes to the reused sprites in MVC2 it was Shuma, Blackheart, Thanos, Spiral, and Silver Samurai. When it comes to characters that were actually new in MVC2 it was Marrow, Hayato, SonSon, Amingo, and Ruby Heart. The last three being original characters. And now in MVC3 we have Dormammu, MODOK, Taskmaster, Firebrand, Nova, and Rocket Raccoon. MVC was never just simply an "All-star comic book heroes/Capcom characters I know" game.

Granted I wouldn't mind characters like Gambit or Venom, but I can understand Marvel not wanting them. I like that they're trying to keep the roster fresh with more new faces instead of just rehashing the same ones over and over. This isn't MVC2.5. What throws me off so much is how many people clamor for characters and then not only get mad when someone they don't know gets in because they don't consider them popular enough, they then go into great detail about how X Marvel series entry made them LOVE a certain character so much and now they miss them and I'm thinking "dude... If they had followed your philosophy and only included "popular" characters from past entries, you would have never grown to love Strider, CapCom, and Jin because they never would have been in the game."

People also seem to be forgetting that almost nobody even knew what Tatsunoko was and yet people for it to come to the US, despite that they didn't even know over 50% of the cast. Heck, it even had unfamiliar Capcom characters, like Saki, and I've seen people request her for U/MvC3. You know what that did? It made people gain interest in these characters they never heard of, and want to learn more, see the shows that they were from. In a way, Marvel's doing the same thing.

Sorry for double posting. But I have more to say and I think it might go over the limit.

And people really shouldn't be saying Capcom isn't giving the fans what they want. If they're upset with the Marvel choices don't blame Capcom, blame Marvel. They're the ones who have the final say on their side and the ones who didn't want Cyclops and Venom in. As for the Capcom side yes not putting MM in was a stupid move, but let's look at some of the newcomers they added

Zero - Prior to TVC was begged for by fans to be in a fighting game. After being in TVC people were a little tired of him because of how overused he became. The funniest part of all is he was probably being developed for MVC3 before TVC. lol

Wesker - Granted there were plenty of support for Leon and Jill too, but I saw many fans clamoring for him. Especially after Chris was revealed in th first trailer.

Dante - Seriously, how many times did I have to listen to his name come up? And weren't people upset by his absence in TVC?

Haggar - How long have fans been asking for him to be in a FG?

Amaterasu - Again, very popular and requested.

Arthur - This guy goes all the way back to the original MVC days. His demand has probably been the longest and steady.

Hsien-Ko - Besides Talbain I saw a lot of DS fans requesting her. Not my problem she didn't pan put so well...

And now we have Strider, Frank West, Vergil and Phoenix freaking Wright. Wright being one of THE most requested for the longest time. I love MM as much as the next guy and fully believe not including him is one of the most boneheaded moves to make. But take a step back and really take a look at who has been added. If there's not one of those characters I just mentioned someone doesn't care about, well then tough luck. But they shouldn't be saying Capcom isn't giving fans what they want, just because it's not characters that THEY wanted.

I agree.. and to be honest.. this feels like MUA2 all over again. Lets face it, if voting polls of the genral public always had there way.. every marvel game would have (gambit, psylocke, venom, carnage, deadpool, cable, hulk, cap, spidey, wolverine, storm, phoenix, nightcrawler, iceman, magneto, beast, apocalypse, rogue, punisher, ghostrider, ironman, thor, and juggernaut) every game would just simply have the same exact roster time and time again if they followed "popular polls".

If this roster is really the result of Marvel meddling, then honestly, I hope they continue doing it. If Capcom would only listen to the vocal majority, we'd barely ever get any new characters, especially those that really deserve it.

 exactly

Thank you. If some people had their way this is how the roster would have probably turned out

- The roster consisting of mostly vets with only about 10-12 newcomers.

- Over half the roster consisting of X-men and SF characters. Just like MVC2. And many people do not want that again.

Definitely expect either DLC or a new game after Ultimate. Niitsuma wanted a roster of 58 characters, but the Capcom execs forced him to push the game's release to the holiday season.

I hope Niitsuma's follows in Ono's steps & has the next version be similar to SSF4 Arcade Edition. Make it available for DLC & as a disc for new people wanting to buy MvC3 & for the tournament guys to use. & I think it's guaranteed that Mega Man X & Gene will get in, since they supposedly almost made it into UMvC3. Hell Capcom probably saved the two, so that they can be selling points of the DLC.

Nemesis. Looks. AWESOME. "This Level 3 Hyper has been rated XXX by the ESRB."

Strange reminds me of Magneto, but with more thought and flash. Which is just dandy.

I admit I'm a "where is Megaman?!?" but the MVC games did got me interesting in some of the lesser known Marvel and Capcom characters...

Oh god, I hate that costume on Strange. I wish they had gone with his modern look instead

And She-Hulk is in desperate need of a new super move. The ones she have sucked and are difficult to chain into a combo. Definetly not Team Hyper combo friendly

Damn. Nemesis is BIIIIG.
I want so see some Vergil gameplay, now.

Nemesis was very cool! But Dr. Strange was a little underwhelming if you ask me.

actually, Dr. Strange was kind of cool!!

When I watched Dr. Strange, I thought I had seen him somewhere before. And then it popped into my head where I had seen him before. His gameplay looks like Magneto's. Soo... I say meh.

Nemesis though, he's freaking, awesomely, nasty! :awesome:

To me, it feels like there could be much more to Dr. Strange. It seems like he'll basically just have normal laser beams and laser traps.

But yeah, Nemesis looked extremely awesome!

Another one disappointed by Strange. He just seems like a mash between Magneto and MODOK.

Nemesis, though, was awesome!

They weren't very creative with his moves, but when you have a supernatural character in a fighting game, the only real displays of their power would be in hypers.

Only his last Hyper looked somewhat interesting. The minor ones are just beams that we have seen so many times before.

I would think one of his powers would involve maybe temporarily possessing your opponent via the astral plane and causing them to just injure themselves or whatever.

It looks like Strange has a projectile countering hyper.

And I think we can forget about getting completely original new stages

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=30138477&postcount=202

Apparently, in the latest issue of Game Informer, Ryota Niitsuma is interviewed and says that each of the 8 new stages will be a variant of the 8 stages already in the game.
