Jack Lord stands out here.
I'm surprised how you can think of all these actors. You've become really good at this.
Now I would like to ask you something I have wondered about for a while. How do you pick your cast?
Is it because of an actor's other films, what similar characters he played around the time for your alternate film in question?
When I did all of my different "dream projects", from 1940s up to today, many factors play in.
The main two are their age around the time of the film in question, and their faces ("Do they look like the comic book character I've chosen?"). The hair color can affect a bit too.
But maybe you go for the actors' voices too?
Or their public image/personality, how they behave(-d) in interviews?
Thanks!
I pick my actors in a variety of ways, and sometimes its easier than other times.
I definitely try to find the actor who looks the role , though, I will sometimes go for fit even if the actor or actress isn't a dead ringer.
For instance, I picked Dustin Hoffman as Scott Lang's Antman. Even though he doesn't look like the comics version, he's like a 1970s version of what Rudd's Lang would have been back then. Same thing with Ackroyd as Starlord. While he didn't scream action hero in the late 70s , The SNL Ackroyd definitely could have played all the shades of Starlord imo.
Alot of times , I'll cast to the type of actor who previously played the role , i.e. RDJ is similar to Burt Reynold's imo.
They're from different decades, to be sure, but they both have the devil may care attitude , lady's man, and ability to due comedy aspects of their personas. At the same time, Reynold's looks like Stark anyway, so it's the best of both worlds.
It was a similar thing with Redford as Cap. He both fits the Steve Rogers , all American look of Cap, but he also played idealistic and principled characters in his youth, particularly in the 70s, and that also made him a prime pick.
I had originally had Steve Reeves and Jon Voight for Cap, but neither of them really were the full package for the role the way Redford was.
On the other hand, the fan casting can also be tough when I'm trying to search for an actor I feel really could have embodied the character. When that happens ,I have to go into my memory banks a bit and search through old tv show and film casts.
That's when some really obscure actors and actresses to today audiences come up in my lists. Alot of the posters here may not know who they are, but I feel the actors would have fit the roles well.
I repeat alot of the same actors constantly through the DC and Marvel casts lists, but alot of times, those actors could play multiple heroes or villains at multiple times over the decades.
As far as Jack Lord goes, I got lucky . I wanted to do a Daredevil film set in the 60s, and at first, I was looking at younger actors who were part of the Redford generation.
I then remembered Lord's Felix Leiter from Dr. No and I thought, "That's Matt Murdock off the 1960s page!". While he was on the older end, he still pretty much fit the role to a T around that time , so I picked him.
Overall, In tend to stick to dream casts from the 60s through 80s .
It's more interesting to me to cast for films that far back as opposed to recasting The X Men 2000 film with another cast of actors from the late 90s.
Ditto with recasting The MCU cast with actors who are contemporaries with the current actors. In other words, I'm not interested trying to cast say Scott Eastwood as Cap in 2011, instead of Chris Evans.
I'd rather go to the 90s and cast Casper Van Dien as Cap and see what that might look like. It's further back which is much more interesting to me.
