Matt Reeves Directing The Batman

The last two GoT episodes are absolutely some of the best episodes in the history of televsion. But they're not the best hour of television. Not when you have shows True Detective Season 1, Breaking Bad, Sopranos.

They need a big name. So they're not going to grab him as a director anyway.

Question is... are they going to get one? This seems like an inconceivable thing to say, but WB might struggle to find an A list director who wants to make a Batman movie. If the DCEU is in as big a mess as some reports seem to indicate, then you can hardly criticise directors for staying away. WB may need to go with someone less well known.

This. The only way they can get someone like Gibson is because he is damaged goods because of his personal life

I already mentioned Michael Mann as a realistic pick. Nobody does crime drama like him. I'd also throw out Antoine Fuqua as a realistic possibility who I feel does quality work.

My homerun dream choice would be Eastwood, though

...a what?

What you said it's tosh. Directors want to work with studios. Sure some creatively can't get on board with certain projects but if you think WBs can only attract certain calibre of directors for DC projects because they've had psychological and various other problems then you are wrong.

Exactly. He is trying to rebuild his career and a potential big BO hit would certainly help him do that. I mean read his comments on CBM's...I doubt that he really wants to do one of these.

I'd sure like to agree with this, but right now I'm not seeing or hearing about a list directors leaping to work with WB on the DCEU. This may of course change, but not the case as we speak.

I think he's asking what the heck a tosh is.

Mann hasn't made a good film in like 15 years.

I haven't seen Sully but I don't think I've liked a single Clint film in about 15 years also. And I usually can't stand his directing style. I can name only a few films in his entire filmography that I think are good (as a director).

Fuqua is another one who needs great material like Training Day or his movies tend to be a mess or simply nothing more than a fun, forgettable popcorn flick. I'm happy he backed out of the Scarface re-Remake.

Imho Collateral, Miami Vice and Public Enemies were all better than what DCEU offered so far, as for Eastwood yeah his last movie I liked was Changeling but it was riddled with problems and the fact it was several movies in one didn't help

Dont worry, I'm 28 years old and I don't think I've ever heard a person use that word before. :hehe:

Oops did I say HE? Must have been a typo.

Fellow 28 year old here (almost). I'm Polish but I'm fluent in English, I thought maybe it was some sort of slang or something...anyways, at least I learned a new word :funny:

Collateral is fantastic but I didn't care for the other two.

I think Batman should get a big name director. However if WB decides to go the B-list route and they're looking for someone that understands how to make an effect dark movie with a psychologically compelling character, what about Jaume Collet-Serra? He's kind of like the Luc Besson of Spain. Did good work in The Shallows and has a list of solid films to his credit.

The only one of those that can compete with GOT is Breaking Bad.

I still think they need to just chill on this Batman film until someone comes to them with a clear vision.

Collateral is a fantastic movie. I really enjoyed Public Enemies. Beyond that you cannot argue with Heat, Ali, Last of the Mohicans and the Miami Vice series.

As to Fuqua, part of what makes me think he'd be good is the early 2000s King Arthur, which is criminally underrated and has some beautifully framed shots.

On top of that, I don't think rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic is gonna help.

What i'm looking for is them announcing a new handler for these movies.

why re-arrange the deck chairs when you can just deny the existence of the iceberg altogether!

fake news! everything is fine.

Is there a handler? I am still confused as to who is running the DCEU right now.
