Matt Reeves Directing The Batman

Does anyone else think Chad Stahelski (John Wick director) would be a good choice?

I do think the aesthetics of John Wick would work well for a Batman movie but I'm not sure he's ready to tackle a non-basic script like people would expect from a Batman movie. I found John Wick 2 kind of dull to be perfectly honest.

Isn't he doing Deadpool 2? Or is that the other one? Aren't both of them attached to a superhero movie already?

You want a Michael Mann Batman just watch The Dark Knight.

David Leitch is attatched to Deadpool as far as I know. If not, I have an interesting suggestion. Mikael Håfström. He directed The Rite, 1408, and Escape Plan.

One of John Wick's strengths was it was a straight up action movie beginning to end. A retired hit man who's wife just died just got his puppy killed by some an unlucky kid. He then proceeds to mow down everything in his way to get revenge.

I wouldn't be opposed to a Batman movie that's 2 hours of the warehouse scene from BVS. But like I said earlier Nolan really raised the bar with good writing, anD characters even if he didn't have as good action sequences.

I also wouldn't be opposed to something less straight up action and more mystery

The problem with that is, Batman had a rich tapestry of source material full of character, themes and a plethora of engaging narratives that would be remiss to not explore. John Wick OTOH doesn't have such a preexisting mythology so it can get away with such a simple, barebones premise where it can afford to really focus on Wick going around beating up and killing people against the backdrop of a simple revenge story. Batman is, needs and deserves more substance than that.

At this point I just want a new Batman story whether it be an adaptation of something from the comics or an entirely original story.

I don't want them to go back to the Frank Miller Year one/TDKR well again, I don't want them bogged down in anymore cross over / team up nonsense, I don't want another Wayne Murders/ origin story, or another film about him being a quitting , aging Batman.

I just hope the next film (which my preference is a reboot ,DCEU be damned), is a fresh story, and a fresh take that doesn't repeat the same tropes and storylines of the Burton,Schumacer, Nolan and Sndyer films.

In 2005, Batman Begins was heavily inspired by Denny O'Neil's work in the seventies. Maybe in 2025 we'll be looking at Knightfall and Azbats on screen.

Wasn't The Dark Knight Rises basically a movie adaptation of Knightfall sans Azbats?

Obviously there were elements of that, yes, but I would say there were a lot more differences than similarities.

The most memorable parts of Knightfall were used. I don't need to see another movie where Bane breaks Batmans back, for example. Same with people wanting a Long Halloween adaptation. What is there to do with that?

Let's just move on to stories that haven't been touched.

Say he was brainwashed in BvS and the codeword to break the hypnotism was "Martha"...

Blackfire would be good, though brainwashed Batman might not go down that well.

Personally, I think they need to do Court Of Owls.
I meant the Cult was a huge inspiration for The Dark Knight Rises. Bane basically replaced Deacon Blackfire in his story and The Mutant Leader in Returns.

Hes back!

Matt Reeves is back and has officially signed on.

TheBatman officially signs Matt Reeves to direct http://bit.ly/2lPsY8F

Matt Reeves has closed a deal to direct “The Batman.”

Reeves comes in after Ben Affleck stepped aside to focus on the role of the Caped Crusader.
News broke last week that negotiations broke down, but that there was a possibility that they could resume.
WB offered Reeves the job to replace Affleck as director two weeks ago after Affleck exited the film to focus on the role of the Caped Crusader.
Sources had always said it was a priority for the studio to get a director on the project to move the pre-production forward and there was always optimism a deal would get done.

Good news. Hopefully it's smooth sailing from here

Honestly I'm just happy he's officially signed on. Hoping we get a statement from Ben later talking about how he's excited to work with him.
