Matt Reeves To Direct The Upcoming Batman Solo - Part 2

I'd love some horror or thriller elements in there. I think it'd pair well with the noir/mystery style we might be getting.

Batman and all of his villains just lend themselves to that so well. Even a scene or two, maybe when Batman is investigating a case, that has the suspense and dread of a horror movie would be amazing.

And would also set the movie apart from the lighthearted tone most modern CBMs have taken.

As someone who feels like the Nolan trilogy is as close as I want to a "realistic" Batman, the term grounded doesn't really worry me. You could describe Se7en or Taxi Driver (which Reeves has named as inspirations) as grounded but both are still very stylish and operatic in their way. Ultimately, as long as he creates a world that functions within its own logic that we can believe in, it will be grounded. Doesn't have to mean we're sacrificing aesthetic or style.

Exactly Seven is another "grounded" style movie (but verry stylish, noir film influenced. The movie would be in black and white, we could think about Sin city in a way) ... but do you think about Nolan Batman when you see it? Not at all. Michael Mann/ Heat (very stylish is his own way) is more like it, and like we all know, it was Nolan influence.

Reeves is a huge fan of Martin Scorcese, he is influenced by him for his Batman take, so it very plausible that he wants to have a film along those lines, in its own unique way ( its films are his own) I dont have the expectation that some of us had, granted ( Man Bat, Clayface and the more fantastical Batman adversaries) but i think that Reeves can make it work any how, in a way that a lot of us could enjoy.

Is Jeffery Wright as Gordon official ? Man I really hate that choice.

Zoe Kravitz is an excellent choice for Catwoman, but they really let me down with the two latest casting of Gordon

Meh. He was absolutely brilliant in Westworld, but I really cannot see him as Jim Gordon

I actually don’t see any of these choices yet. That’s not to say I’m denouncing them, or that I’m overly upset, I’m just not impressed with them like I was with Nolan and Snyder. I’m more confused by these. So I’ll just have to wait and see what Matt Reeves is doing. I really need to see the Batsuit and Batmobile to kinda gauge the style, cause I just don't feel these picks yet.

I'm not crazy about Wright for Gordon, but maybe I haven't seen him in enough stuff or Reeves is simply going for a different take than what we're used to for the character.

She won a Oscar in 2013 and nominated 2006, 2008, 2015 and in 2018. Seems like she is really respected in the industry.

She's worked on a lot of period pieces.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Macbeth are just two movies that are more than enough to give me confidence in her ability to pick the right costumes for characters. I am curious how they're going to make the villains look though. I feel like it'll be more on the Nolan side of realistic design elements versus Burton's gothic/cartoony versions.

That said, wasn't the costume design in Beauty and the Beast notoriously awful? I remember a lot of criticism about Belle's yellow dress.

I read somewhere that the dress was awful because Emma Watson was heavily involved with its creation despite not having any experience in costume designing, and she wanted it to be "more feminist" or something. So the blame wasn't totally on the costume designer.
