What happened to Summer? Didn’t the Summer thing come directly from Matt Reeves? How much time does this dude need to tweak this script?

All things considered it’s not a huge deal I guess, but that basically says a summer 2021 release date is likely. Can’t believe it will have been at least 4 years since Matt was announced for the project.

It better be worth the wait. Ill be so let down if this movie is just “ok.”

I think it's because they want to release it in the summer that filming won't begin until November. I don't think Borys means it''ll take him a year to tweak the script but rather he'll continue to tweak and adjust right until they begin shooting. So he'll still be tweaking the script in during this year in the middle of casting and the resting of pre-production.

Like you say, if I had to bet money, I'd say June/July 2021.

Let’s be real for a second... if they had a kickass script, WB would be pushing this into production ASAP

The Batman is becoming the “Chinese Democracy” of superhero movies

Not so sure, actually. They’ve been burned by just how bad Snyder’s Batman was. He’s their golden goose, and they know his popularity has been negatively affected recently. I think they’re being deliberately careful. Quite right too.

I mean, last good Batman film will still have only been nine years ago when this comes out, so...

this!

I think Matt reeves is capable of pulling this off. if it means waiting longer, so be it. We can't have another bad attempt at the character like what Snyder did.

Perfectly fine with this. Just make sure you get it right.

At least we have a more definitive timetable to work with and we can adjust our expectations accordingly. And so long as they stick to this schedule, we can still hope for casting news by the spring.

Its important to note that Borys said "between now and then [November]," so it sounds like there may still be some fluidity to this. If the script is basically done then that means Reeves can really get into pre-production in earnest - including casting.

And while the film may not be releasing for another two years, by this time next year they'll be in the middle of shooting. So there's the possibility of set photos. Then throughout 2020 we'll get official stills, trailers, and interviews.

In other words, get through 10 more months and the drought is effectively over.

Think the 'between now and then' was a tongue-in-cheek reply to finding out who the new Batman is going to be.

Unless they want it to be a Summer release like every other Batman solo movie.

I was hoping for summer 2020 until we got the Wonder Woman news and since then I've expected June/July 2021. That's why a potential November start is less of a surprise is me because the previously mentioned Spring/Summer date would mean a full two year filming and post-production schedule which seems a bit excessive.

Yeah. The November start date may have less to do with Reeves and more to do with WB wanting a summer 2021 slot for the movie. Don't want to have a situation where they finish principal photography and then decide to push the movie out a year (ala WW84).

That's reaching. There are many elements at play. They can rush production even without having a kick-ass script. Or there can be additional obstacles beyond script. Like actors being available, going for a specific release date or whatever...

i just want this to be so good so they start a new Bats franchise, and get Nightwing, Batgirl and the rest of the Bats family well done this time, not like B&R or BF

They could make November 2020 since Batman isn’t as CGI heavy compared to say Aquaman but I think WB needs a Summer 2021 tent pole and Batman fits that bill.

Not a popular opinion perhaps, but I don't want Batgirl or other fragile girls to participate in fist fights against people twice (or more) their size and weight. It's probably possible to do them without that, or create such a setting, when it won't feel out of place (see Burton and fantasy Catwoman), but I believe it needs to be taken into account. It's super-jarring to see Selina throwing large men in a gritty take like TDKR.

we have female villains too, so batgirl can do her thing, and i actually liked Selina doing that

I liked Selina doing that in Batman Returns, but I didn't like it in TDKR. Looked unconvincing even by superhero standards.

I'd like Oracle instead of Batgirl. Barbara is just Gordon't kid and a talented computer user. She assists Batman in different means. Again, it depends on how gritty it will be. It can be campy and completely bonkers, so it won't be that big of a deal. I just want them to go smarter with Catwoman and other. Catwoman can be really evasive and tricky. You can't fight her because you can't catch her. Or she can use a baseball bat to beat someone up. Or pepper spray. Something more convincing instead of fake super-strength.

It's easier with female villains, because they don't hesitate to use firearms or super-powers. Poison Ivy can touch someone and that person will be paralyzed or dead. Harley is deadly with a grenade launcher. And so on...

Filming in November? Guess that means they'll announce the full cast and synopsis at SDCC.
