Mattchew's fanart thread 3.0... *****ing out, hardcore style.

A final on my March 08 fanart contest entry.

The theme: Heroes/Villians past their prime.

I did a picture of a Joker/Bats chase set in a retirement community...

Hope you like it!

definitely your best work right there man! it rocks all around, solid

As for the Joker/Batman pic... it's not ALL good. I do find the pic slightly revolting. But then thats nothing to do with you, more to do with the fact that old people creep me the-eff out.

Well I was going for creepy-old, so I'll take it as a compliment. ;)

Nice little nod to Lost.

Thanks! (I'm a massive fan!)

Oh, I like this one. A lot of your stuff s pretty face on and I'm glad you took the perspective into consideration in this one. Makes it much more dynamic.

Thanks!... Yeah.. I need to push it a little more, a little more often.

Love the colours, great execution Matt :D

Thanks!

So.... This is fairly specific, and you may not be able to appreciate it.

It's a birthday card for my friend Emilie who is a massive 'Project Runway' fan. It's based off the recent season 4 winner, Christian, who is basically the most b!tchy person on the face of the earth.

Anyway, I took a bunch of his quotes and used them to form the message of the front of the card... Hence, the annoying/b!tchy tone.

Again, if you don't watch 'Project Runway', there's really nothing for you here. As for fans of that show, hope you like it!

btw... here are some clips

My only critique is he should be more flippant crazy eyed etc.

Otherwise great job

Great stuff, Matt.

You've shown a marked improvement in your artwork. The cartoony stuff is looking awesome and your realistic art is progressing, too.

My wife really liked your Batman/Joker pic, she thought it was funny...I agree.

So I realize this isn't 'fan art' by any stretch, but I've been posting random stuff in this thread already, so having said that...

I make cheesy valentine's day cards for all my friends every year. There's generally a theme, and I try to make them look like the stupid V-day cards you exchange as a little kid.

One year I did 'Arrested Development' V-Day cards....

Another year I did 'Battlestar' cards...

While this will surely miss with 95% of you out there, this year I'm doing Valentines Day cards based on the TERRIBLY wonderful movie 'Mommie Dearest'. It's kinda a cult classic... especially with the gays, for some reason.

If you have a REALLY sick sense of humor that allows you to laugh a terrible acting (even when the performances are portraying a true story of child abuse) you should probably got rent this train wreck of a film... No seriously... go now.

Having said all of that, here are the series of 'MD' cards I'm sending out...

If you haven't seen this movie, you're not gonna come even close to appreciating these cards, but if you're a fan... let me know what you think...

oh god, LOL I have tears in my eyes! Thank you for sharing this.

I was going for 'b!tchy', but yes at times Christian was definately 'flippant' and 'crazy eyed'.

OMG That bday card is fierce! XD *dies of barfness*

Glad you liked it. My friend probably wont get it in the mail till Monday, and I'm dieing (of barfness, of course) for her to see it!

Great stuff, Matt.

Wow! Blast from the past... I'd be interested to know what specifically you found funny, because there were a lot of different things going on in that post... (More specifically, I'm wondering if you're a 'Mommie Dearest' fan).

Been doing a lot of digital cartoony stuff recently, so I tough I'd try my hand at something more realistic again...

Here's the result:

Beautiful! Model or photo?

(if it's a model then the head is a liiiiiil too big.. if it's a photo then it was probably just taken at a weird angle)

Photo, but execution is to blame for any failings, I assure you! ;)

Some really nice parts of the latest sketch...

... other parts look a little too forced. But overall I think your work of this style is really improving.

Just a quick for-fun cartoony redesign of Croc...

I never thought I would ever say something like that but "that crocodile is hot" o_o

But seriously perfect shades of green.

Matt, have you ever heard of the Spectrum books? If not, they are a yearly contest for fantasy artists; you submit your work before a yearly deadline, and after rounds and rounds of judges, get your work published in a beautiful book (i think this past years was Spectrum 15). Its a pretty prestigious thing, and only a handful of comic stuff gets in, but I really think you should submit the batman/joker piece. I tried to submit something last year, but never got around to finishing it :(

thanks for the suggestion... the fact that you'd even suggest I submit is an amazing compliment to me, but I assume you can't enter stuff with DC owned characters.

regardless, I will check it out for sure and who knows... maybe I'll enter with something more general.

And here is the winner of the latest contest. I love this one too. Perfect.
Joker's face, and everything.

I just noticed the little details like Bruce's check, or the time of day or that its St. Patricks Day. Great stuff.

Its good to see an artist step in and out of his comfort zone. i like how you are working with two different styles and I've gotta admit, the cartoonish style is executed with perfection every time. LOVE IT. As far as the photo-realism goes, there is a very distinctive sense of progression in your work. Looking good!
