I mean, again, the movie cost more than 200 million which means it even has a chance of losing money. But whatever, I won't debate this any longer.

In terms of the GA , even before the MCU in the early 00s, The Fantastic Four wasn't nearly as popular as Spiderman, Hulk , or the X- Men .

Yeah, F4 was more well known than characters like Iron Man , Ant Man , and GOTG in 2000, but after those franchises took off, they became far more popular than F4 , even though F4 was far more well known than those characters were .

The Fantastic Four has always tended to be more popular in fandom than with the GA , and unfortunately, the prior films haven't helped raise their stature in terms of popularity with the GA, even if the characters were well known .

But , at this point, I can accept that the F4 may not be the biggest box office draws with the GA .

My hope is that the new films are good enough to justify continuing future installments, and that characters continue to be adapted, and the roles continue to be passed down like Spiderman, Batman, Superman, James Bond, etc franchises .

It won't lose money. It just may not make its budget back theatrically. The movie will turn a profit through other channels. Merch deals, streaming, etc. Also, yes it cost 200 mil to make. But look at TFA. It cost 150 in 2011 money and made less than 400. Similar position FF is in. These movies are not just about this 1 investment or movie. You have to look at these as longer term investments. This movie is meant to launch the franchise, and their appearance in Doomsday/Secret Wars and whatever other projects is meant to build on this momentum. So eventually the FF may become a larger money maker. Cap went from under 400 mil to over 700 mil come TWS. Thor likewise only did about 400 WW. It's a marathon. Not a sprint.

I have said this for years, it isn't Phase 3 anymore. We need to stop looking at this in comparison to Phase 3. Marvel needs to rebuild the house of cards. This may mean less profit on the individual movies for a few years, but make good movies and make a Doomsday/Secret Wars people like, the numbers should go back up.

Half a billion dollars at the box office isn't a success now?

In THIS current economy?

Success is always relative. WB is likely happy with Gunn, because their only other successful blockbusters came from Legendary. Its enough to keep the PR going that it was a success, but will Feige's bosses be really happy about it? And again, nothing I've seen about Doomsday says someone is confident in keeping their job.

They may go back up somewhat, but I think the halcyon days of the genre are over. People need to come to terms with this also.

This reality doesn't need to be a bad thing either because it may present different perspectives and opportunities in the future.

Yeah at this point, there are other major source of revenue aside from box office. Its just not realistic anymore to act like we are still the 2000s/2010s, when streaming was barely a factor.

Fantastic 4 should be a streaming hit for Disney+.

F4 was a tainted brand guys. The last time the GA was exposed to these characters (Fant4stic) they stunk up the box office big time. Half a billion from a tainted brand is a win.

Domestic (52.5%)
$266,844,722

International (47.5%)
$241,394,829

Worldwide
$508,239,551

Now down to half a million, in daily domestic tallies.

Thank you for saying this. I don’t know why so many continue to miss this very important factor. It’s almost like folks prefer to skip all the way back to the 2005 Jessica Alba film era (which were also critical and financial fails), but not taking into account everything that has transpired since then.
