Marvel Films MCU Phase IV!

I think they are very clearly planting seeds for Young Avengers. You got Kate Bishop in Hawkeye and Monica Rambeau and WandaVision.

Why bring the race of an actor in it at all. Just say lots of actor and leave it at that. I’m sure there are many actors who want to be in the MCU and many actors don’t want to be in the MCU, no matter the race. As a black man, I don’t take likely this crap I see posted on this forum sometimes. Just stop the race talk.

I mentioned actors of color and women in the context of there not being a lot of opportunities in the comic book genre for either until fairly recently. The fact of the matter is that YOU brought race up before I did and now YOU'RE complaining?? :lmao::lmao::lmao:

That being said, if I choose to speak on the subject of race, I'll do so and don't need your permission. If you find what I say offensive, please report me to the mods and, BY ALL MEANS, feel free to put me on your ignore list. Really, feel free....the less troll like posts I read, the better I'll like it.

Respectfully, lots of people said this about Guardians and Ant-Man. How many millions of people had no taste in Ragnarok after the taste of the first two? All it takes is a trailer to wow us with visuals and make us go “oh, THIS is the take” to make us all be in.
They also announced films for existing characters like Dr. Strange and Black Widow and a reboot of a known property (Blade). I personally an not interesting in any of these. Phase IV does IMO lack the oomph that all the others did

I hope love and thunder isn't Hemsworth's last mainline Thor movie. I wonder how long-term his new contract is. Is it just Thor 4,Guardians 3, Avengers 5?

Hopefully another one of those 9 contract deals. :cwink:

Hey, let's take it easy on the comic book writers. Creating original characters is HARD! Not everyone's Jack Frikkin' Kirby.

And the idea of expanding a comic book roster by putting a new spin on an existing character has been happening since at least before war when Fawcett put a blue uniform and a hep-cat hairdo on a handicapped boy and called him Captain Marvel Jr. This ain't some new PC SJW trend of which we should all be terrified. The "cheap gimmick" has been happening for decades.

And lots of legacies - including Barry Allen, Hal Jordan, Johnny Storm and Carol Danvers - have gone on to far surpass their predecessors in popularity. Crappy ones get forgotten, and the ones that work - including Kamala Khan, Jaimie Reyes, Freddy Freeman, Mary Marvel, Laura Kinney, Courtney Whitmore, Damian Wayne, Beta Ray Bill, Michael Holt, America Chavez, Kara Danvers, Miles Morales, Gwen Stacey, Hope Van Dyne, Scott Lang, Kate Bishop and Helena Bertinelli - actually live up to the legacy.

Creating legacies is a great way to breathe new life into underused characters, increase diversity in a character roster that is overwhelmingly white and male and bring in new readers essential for keeping a dying medium alive. And it ain't new.

I get what you're saying...but...for instance...I LIKED Jaime Reyes...and the other Blue Beetle was DEAD...but then, they had to bring the other dude back to life (when he was a worthless throwaway character anyway...and heck...I'll say it...SO WAS BARRY ALLEN). I want ONE Flash...ONE Thor...ONE Blue Beetle. But if you can't commit to an older character staying dead, then come up with a cool new concept and push the heck out of it.

Where did you see that? Because the only film scheduled for that date is from Universal.
Hmm my apologies. I got the date from an article from last year but can't seem to find it. But yea, looking up the upcoming dates now, there's nothing in that spot so its possible Sony removed a film from that spot awhile back.

The problem with the comics is that whenever a book's sales soften there's always pressure to bring back the old reliables even if they were flat lined months before. So the fresh new characters fall by the wayside as the aging comic book buyers demand the same characters in the same stories over and over until the heat death of the universe.

Feige and company appear to be committed to both legacies like Kate Bishop and FalCap along with spankin' new characters, so I'm hoping the MCU won't fall into the same tired patterns of the comics.

FalCap I don't like because...really, in the comics anyway...it's a guy giving up his identity to TEMPORARILY get legitimacy by wearing another guy's suit. Falcon has VALUE. Nightwing has VALUE. These characters don't need to borrow another character's logo to matter.

I’d rather he stayed as Falcon but incorporated Cap’s shield into his moves.

Maybe that's why the new series isn't called Captain America and The Winder Soldier.

First, I didn’t bring up race, I responded to a poster who bought up the race of actors.
Second, I never said you needed my permission, but you got to be more careful about what you are posting about sensitive issues.
Third, I don’t report other posters over a disagreement, I don’t label other posters as trolls that I disagree with.

I think it’s his last hurrah, he is handing off the baton. He needs a good exit like Tony and Cap.

Trades said he signed for multiple movies so I doubt this is it.Im guessing 3 more movies

I’m confident Bucky will become Cap after that series. I think the Disney+ show is all about showing Falcon (and the audience) that Bucky is a great man and really the only suitable replacement for Steve given his physical and emotional strength.

I doubt that. Bucky's only qualification is super-strength. He was a brainwashed Russian assassin for decades and then a fugitive who just wanted to be left alone. Joining in on the final fight along with everyone else doesn't suddenly make him qualified to carry that shield. I don't want to see EITHER of them as Cap, but the only thing Sam lacks is the super-strength - he's got the heart and the drive for it, served his country for years, then devoted his time to helping his fellow man, and has fought the same fight as Steve - along side him - from pretty much the moment they met. He represents what Captain America stands for more than Bucky.

Prior to being brainwashed, Bucky was just like Sam. A good man, who served his country with pride and risked his life to combat evil. Steve Rogers looked up to Bucky Barnes, and fought alongside him.

Bucky's questionable behavior was due only to brainwash, which naturally didn't fit Cap's criteria for a replacement. But you take away the brainwash, you give him something heroic to do that proves his mind has healed, and you got yourself "Captain America 2".

I think while Steve didn't get to see that, Sam will, and will pass the shield to him accordingly.

They've established Bucky as a guy who joins in the fight when everyone else does. That's what he did back in WWII and what he did now. "The brainwash" and its after-effects made up the vast majority of his life and accomplishments. I'm not saying he's not heroic, but this series would have to do a hell of a lot of convincing for me to believe he somehow represents the shield better than Sam.

Though, I think/hope the series will end with neither one taking up the mantle, personally, as Steve WAS the shield.

Well id say im more interested to see the Disney+ series than the movies of Phase 4.

Falcon & Winter Soldier - Yes please!
Loki - Yes please!
WandaVision - YAS PLEASEEEEE.
What if..? - F**K YES GIMME SOME OF DAT.
Hawkeye - Not a fan but still interested. Will wait for a trailer.

The movies im not that excited about.

Blade - Not want to hear or see anything if its not R rated. If its PG13 then Disney can shov it up their A.

Black Widow - Im ok with the BW stuff i got already. Dont need more tbh. Need a trailer to know if im seeing this opening day.

The Eternals - The only movie im excited about. Like the concept , dont care about gender and race swaps as in mot familiar with the characters anyways and i want to see more Thanos. Big Yes please.

Shang-Chi - Dont know the character and dont care if im honest. I liked Iron Fist and im sad it didnt go anywhere.

Doctor Strange - First movie was cool but the Multiverse of Madness seems to be a weird subtitle for me. Guess im waiting for the trailer to decide if im going opening day.

Thor - Love and Thunder ??? Really ??? . Not excited at all. Thor peaked at Infinity War and going downhill since then for me. The subtitle made me cringe. Jane Foster as Thor doesnt make sense for me. I dont buy Natalie Portman as Thor. She is gonna be 40+ for her solo Thor movie when it comes. And if they dont plan on making one then whats the point of making her Thor in one movie ???

No Avengers plans ? Feels bad man.

This Phase 4 slate is underwhelming for me. Guess im spoiled. That Phase 3 slate announcement back then was too good to match.

This is only 2 years worth of content so I definitely wasn’t expecting a new Avengers film so soon after Endgame. The first 3 were 3 years apart and EG was the end of an era. Feige was asked about Avengers and he said there would be many new characters on the team. In other words it’s still on the radar and being planned, just no time and too early to discuss it like the other 5 properties he mentioned in one sentence that he didn’t have time to cover at the end.

Lol at another avengers two years after EG. Of course thry will wait longer, avengers and aou came 3 years between each other.

Thor is at peak popularity right now but he is not gonna play thor forever. He is on his way out like the rest of the OG. If you havent havent accepted it by now, some of you have not been paying attention.

Man I'll be sad if Love and Thunder is the last time we see Thor. I hope he gets another trilogy and that after Thor 4 we never see Jane Foster again.

I think the new slate looks incredible. Really excited to see them forefronting newer properties. I want to see what Marvel can do with such obscure characters. Thoughts on each film:

Black Widow is really the only one I'm not interested in. The character had a good run and a I think got a good send off. I think it cheapens her death to immediately return to the character. The choice of when it's set is strange to me. I could understand a prequel series exploring Widow's origins and her recruitment by SHIELD, but weirdly shoving it in between Civil War and Infinity War...I can't see it working. What meaningful plot progression can happen that would not have been mentioned in Infinity War? That said it has a promising cast (all the casting looks great to be honest).

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings sounds like a swashbuckling adventure. Love how out there some of these titles are. I know very little about the character but I hope it manages to blend modern spy action with kung fu and mysticism in a way that feels respectful and authentic.

Eternals is probably my most anticipated film. Again, not an IP I know very much about, but it sounds more like epic fantasy than a superhero flick and I can't wait to see the MCU take on that tone. Love the diverse cast as well.

Doctor Strange sounds intriguing, really hope it truly delves into the horror elements.

I'm apprehensive about Thor Love and Thunder. I'm obviously happy to see Taika return, but I'm less keen on Natalie Portman. Just don't really like her as an actor and her part in the MCU has been one of the less well received. Taika has a lot on his plate if he wants to redeem Jane Foster. What I hope this film does is marry the outright comedy of Ragnarok with the more serious medieval fantasy tone of the first two. It needs to tie the whole franchise together.

I haven't seen the original Blade films, but I'm all up for noir vampire slaying adventures. Hope it gets an R rating but I'm not quite so fussed about that as others.
